it killed the concept of the multiplayer, which was the idea that you had to earn the power weapons, not slide out of harms way with 3 guys shooting at you. it forces teams to rush with shotguns to guard the gun from weapon sliders. does that take strategy or skill? no. the shotgun has never been a skill weapon in any shooter, and its the most broken thing in gears.

frag grenade camping shouldnt be as effective. and the shotgun doesnt make any sense, its weaker at close range than in gears 1, and is very hard to get a 1 shot kill with, which is why 2 piece was overused. i hear it was patched, which must have fixed the game a little.

the shotgun also has a much longer range than in gears 1, ive occasionally beat lancers at mid range. the game also has a huge number of glitches, and god awful modes like wingman, which is all about where you spawn.

then of course there is the smoke grenade. its two benefits do not mix at all.

if you throw it to obscure the view of an area, you waste the exposive feature. if you throw it to knock someone down, the smoke comes out and hides their body as it randomly teleports around.

so basically it should be capable of only one of these.

host is also still god in gears 2, now hes the only one who can shoot from the hip with the shotgun reliably. everyone else suffers ridiculous lag.

the game also seems to have its own random elements that can happen without any lag. in a splitscreen match i shot a chainsawing player at very close range, he was not downed and was not stunned despite taking a huge amount of damage. i tried it again and it stuns him every time.

In Gears 1, you get stuck on any cover you try to run out of. Backpacking should not be possible by anyy means. One shot downs with sniper are dumb as hell. You can shoot people in the ass and it registers as a headshot. There's too many glitches and they're all easy to do. The only weapons used are the shotty and the sniper, with the occsional lancer.

Gears 1 is dead. It was fun back in the day, but it's over now. Get good at Gears 2 and quit bitching.
