I don't see how a Tsarist Russia could have defended itself against Hitler in WW2. The nazis wanted "lebensraum" in Russia and were going after it regardless of who was in power. Thanks to Stalin's ruthless but pragmatic rapid industrialization of Russia in the 20's and 30's (putting pretty much all efforts to producing arms) Russia was saved.

The Russian empire could have easily defeated the Nazis during WWII for several reasons. The first being that they would have much closer relations with other European countries. The main reason why Hitler grew to be so powerful was that the Soviet and Europe had tense relations and would not cooperate initially. Second of all, the Tsar would not execute Russia's best generals like Stalin did. Also the Russians would be far better prepared under the tsarist government than the Soviet one.

Stalin was a paranoid man who had little respect for human life but he saw the "big picture" and knew damn well there was no other way to rule all the people in the Soviet Union. It had nothing to do with the children "being evil." It was done for purely political reasons only. The entire family was considered a danger to the new order and if left alive, would become a rallying point for any future attempts to reinstate the monarchy. He along with his prime minister, Stolypin, passed laws to improve life for peasants. He passed laws that would make peasants more independent by selling government land to them. And it was a huge success. By 1916 2/3 of all privately cultivated land in the European part of Russia was owned by peasants.

@jeffvar123 Actually Czar is a mispelling. The reason for it is some people, when transliterating Russian, use the C for a Ts because in Russian ц makes a Ts sound and that letter doesn't exist in English. Therefore, the PROPER spelling should be Tsar.

After Nicolas abdicated (gave up his throne, crown...) Alexi was too young to rule. If I can remember correctly, I think I read somewhere that the throne went to another family member (not OTMA), but they abdicated.

Rasputin was killed because Alexandra (the tsar's wife) was very close to him, and Felix Yussupov, a relative, thought that he could save Russia by murdering Rasputin, hence causing an uprising. I'm sure this is much more, but why the children were executed I really couldn't say. Maybe so they couldn't claim the throne?

Because the Czar was a relic from the past who refused to let Russia industrialize and develop. They were literally over a hundred years behind the rest of Europe when it came to society and the rights of the people. While the Romanovs were rich the common Russians starved. Lenin had few people killed, unlike Stalin, who actually was smart enough to industrialize the Soviet Union rapidly in the 20's and 30's.
And the average Ivan DID have it much better even during Stalin's reign.

Also you claim that the average Russian starved under the Tsar, this too is not true. The agricultural output grew at a faster rate than the population did. As expected, mortality rates fell considerably and life expectancy increased. If the people were starving why would this happen ?Lenin had few people killed ? Do you count over 4 million as a few ?

At the beginning of 1917, the Russian army was fully intact and in order. I mention on my profile how after the Brusilov offensive another successful offensive. Not only were the Russian generals confident, but General Luddendorf wrote about his concerns about a future Russian offensive, so this theory is hardly just Tsarist propaganda. You are entitled to your own opinion about the Brusilov offense, however it is a fact that it was a great success.

World War One bankrupted Russia, and considering it had tons of resources the blame can only logically be pointed at the Czar and his old fashioned and archaic rule. Morale was incredibly low in the Russian army in 1917 and continuing the war was pointless. After the czar was deposed the communists made peace with the Central Powers which saved the country from total collapse and invasion. If not for the Western Front being urgent a worse peace would have been made.

Morale fell drastically after the February revolution. A majority of desertions took place with Kerensky in power. Russian officers of that time write how all order collapsed with the abdication of the Tsar. Thank to the incompetence of the democratic provisional government, the Russian army was pushed back from the German border to Riga. The communists were even worse. Thanks to their incompetence, the Germans almost reached St. Petersburg.

I don't see how a Tsarist Russia could have defended itself against Hitler in WW2. The nazis wanted "lebensraum" in Russia and were going after it regardless of who was in power. Thanks to Stalin's ruthless but pragmatic rapid industrialization of Russia in the 20's and 30's (putting pretty much all efforts to producing arms) Russia was saved.
I don't ever see Tsarist Russia defeating Hitler or putting a man in space in the 60's. The west should be thankful too.

The Russian empire could have easily defeated the Nazis during WWII for several reasons. The first being that they would have much closer relations with other European countries. The main reason why Hitler grew to be so powerful was that the Soviet and Europe had tense relations and would not cooperate initially. Second of all, the Tsar would not execute Russia's best generals like Stalin did. Also the Russians would be far better prepared under the tsarist government than the Soviet one.

It had nothing to do with the children "being evil." It was done for purely political reasons only. The entire family was considered a danger to the new order and if left alive, would become a rallying point for any future attempts to reinstate the monarchy. If dead, the morale of any future attempts at a monarchy would be crushed. It was all politics and ambitious men who wanted power.

He along with his prime minister, Stolypin, passed laws to improve life for peasants. He passed laws that would make peasants more independent by selling government land to them. And it was a huge success. By 1916 2/3 of all privately cultivated land in the European part of Russia was owned by peasants.

I am going to thumbs up this video because it shows the Tsar being killed, and all the hard things my people fought for.
However keep in mind everybody that this video is bias and is meant to spread the propaganda that the Bolshevik's were evil savage people while the Tsar were innocent. However it is the other way around, the death of the Romanovs was a great day, and a milestone for my people, the CCCP and humanity.

@lukeallcock2 not them, the Tsar. he believed in strict autocracy and didn't care about the people, thus the revolution. i guess you don't know russia well, in the Soviet Union in particular, peoples is not a factor, thats why the ussr lost 30million people in 1945. the bolsheviks feared that if they just killed the tsar himself, sometime after the people may revolt and want the tsar to be restored, so they decided that it should be best to kill them all

Rasputin/father gregory had been advising them for years and then they found out that he had advised them the wrong way, and found this out too late. The tsar knew something was wrong, so he led his family to "The house of special purpous" and at midnight were murdered. i don't undertand why the people hated the romanovs....

They were not "evil" YET. But knowing full well what had happened in France in the early 19'th century when there still was powerful royalist powers trying to "undo" the French revolution and turn the clock back to before 1789, these Russian revolutionaries took the "safe route" and made sure no offspring of the Czar could ever come to power again

@jeffvar123 Actually Czar is a mispelling. The reason for it is some people, when transliterating Russian, use the C for a Ts because in Russian ц makes a Ts sound and that letter doesn't exist in English. Therefore, the PROPER spelling should be Tsar.

I think it's horrible that the children were killed, but the soldiers who shot the Romanovs probably looked at this way: The Romanovs had to go. The enemies of the family wanted to put an end to the 300 years of Romanov rule. I'm assuming that they didn't want any of the children to ascend the throne. Since only boys could rule, that would have been Alexi (sp?).
So I guess it was just a matter of they all must die. The entire story behind it is savage and brutal.

After Nicolas abdicated (gave up his throne, crown...) Alexi was too young to rule. If I can remember correctly, I think I read somewhere that the throne went to another family member (not OTMA), but they abdicated.
So, more Romanov rule.
All in complete curiosity though, after the Tsar abdicated, the Romanoc Dynasty was done. Finished. Was it really necessary to execute the Tsar and his family? Perhaps the Bolshiveik (sp?) soldiers were afraid that the Tsar would gather up an army

And if there was, did the children who had nothing to do with their fathers actions, despite certain and whatever measures and thoughts the soliders who killed the family had, deserve to die too?

@scorpianofthesun I guess Tsar Nicholas didn't care about the people, however, when Rasputin was killed this caused an uprising. Rasputin was killed because Alexandra (the tsar's wife) was very close to him, and Felix Yussupov, a relative, thought that he could save Russia by murdering Rasputin, hence causing an uprising. I'm sure this is much more, but why the children were executed I really couldn't say. Maybe so they couldn't claim the throne?

During The Civil War even families of Russian tsarist officers were hostages, so the officers do everything for the victory of the proletariat.
