@in2ennui its made apparent because in later eps you hear them stress the importance of wanting more for their children then they had, n lets face it, kids are expensive and unless they grow up with literally nothing, its human to "expect" certain things, but they did a good job of giving them what they need, and every now and then fulfilling their wants, let me ask this though, with your parents not doing much, as an adult, do you appreciate things more? you prob do, which rocks
