  • I agree with METHOS109 - Live at the Lyceum is an absolute gem of a recording! Amazing vibe about it. So good to hear The Cult on good form of late; looking forward to the batch of tunes which come out of their latest recording sessions...

  • That guy was lying. The Cult and Southern Death Cult aren't the same.

  • That was lying. The Cult and Southern Death Cult aren't the same.

  • @p5parker easily the best comment on a cult vid rock on.

  • the singer looks amazing

  • vocals horribly out of tune at times, but that energetic finish makes up for it

  • Its the fukin TUBE not jools holland show !!!

  • but I love the version of this music at Rockpalast Munich in 1986

  • What a strong voice, oh my good - Ian was 20 years more or less

  • AWESOME !!!!!!!!!

  • Oh wow! I wish I was there!! This is magical

  • Jools Holland rules!!!!!

  • I am going to see them tomorrow in Amsterdam! Ever since 1984 : Hands Down; Ian and Billy are the real thing.

  • Live on the TUBE, not the Jool's Holland show.

    Top stuff by the Cult.

  • Love BIlly playing the White Falcon

  • 1983 ya'll. Ian & Billy should be in the Rock-N-Roll Hall Of Fame. Try to find a better singer in ANY genre, dare you?!

  • Late70s/early 80s music forever

  • i like jools holland like this

  • God bless the CUlt

  • Ian looks badass!

  • esta barbaro che, esas son bandas

  • whats the song at the very beginning called?

  • The song is She Sells Sanctuary from their LP called Love. It's probably my favorite Cult song too.

  • this was the tube, not the jools holland show.

the show was on channel 4 in the early eighties.

  • Friday 13th January 1984 to be precise! I know cos I travelled up to Newcastle with my brother for the show. The excellent Cocteau Twins were also on the same bill. Sweet memories...

  • @battlestarone ace show it was too

  • nobody introduces artists like jools holland

    the cult rocks forever!!

  • The Cult ...Wow !!!!!]

    Power to the Spirit Walker..

    ( Bear That Dances

  • need an audio rip of this.

  • Send me a message and I'll hook you up.

  • asolutely AMAZING ... music is so crap now.

    Sufism!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best Cult song....oh wait how about Moya! The early days were the best. Post LOVE lost all this groudbreaking sound. Live at the Lyceum just may be the best Live album ever recorded.

  • @METHOS109 Oh Moya! One of only 2 7" singles I am missing from my Cult collection. I stopped collecting after Electric, they had lost their buzz imho. I am also missing Gods Zoo 7" but I keep searching. Live at the Lyceum is just amazing, I completely agree with you. :)

  • @METHOS109 Moya and Gods Zoo...sublime.

  • there are like, 23402384 vidoes of this performance and no one can get the title for the band or the show right. haha

from what I can gather, this is The Cult (having recently changed their name from The Death Cult, which was changed from Southern Death Cult), and this is being performed on a T.V. show called "The Tube" by Jools Holland, who later gets his own show.

hahaha and I'm not even English, nor was I alive then!

  • I saw Southern Death Cult when they supported Bauhaus in 1982 and they were fantastic and they still sound F***in great I love I an I have always wanted to have his children!!!!!

    Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

  • Why do you say so? I think this rocks.

  • i think i was a little drunk when i typed that.

to be fair i gave myself another thumbs down

    lol

  • Beautiful vocals back then. All grown up nowdays folks, baritone but awsome.

  • My favourite era of the cult by a mile, and spiritwalker better than anything!! f,kin love it!!

  • yep it's The Tube, not the Jools Holland Show.... I remember watching it when it was broadcast

cool song, always reminded me of Psychedelic Furs into you like a train

  • What a GREAT song from this GREAT Band!

    Cult rules!!!

  • funny i was about 15 when i first listened to them, that was in 1990, in south africa. loved dreamtime, love, electric, and sonic temple. my interest started fading a bit after pure cult release. but i still listen to the old stuff and they still ROCK!!!!

  • Jools Holland show?

    Isn't this The Tube?

  • Yes, this is The Tube, *not* the Jools Holland Show. Probably nicked the vid off someone else hence not knowing the original source.

  • my first and still favorite cult song!

  • oooo my fave CULT song by far!!

  • 2:50 Old Deft Legs! Haha!

  • Crazy Horse

  • Fucking amazing band, Electric was the first album I ever bought and the first act to see live. Long live The Cult!!

  • I love The Cult :)))

    "Old rockers" rock :)))))))))))))))

Seen them live in BXL on 7th march...simply great and Billy is the best guitarist on earth ;)

    CFFC

  • Whoever said old bands like The Cult are dead and no young people listen to them, im 15 years old and im fucking addicted to this song. Im going to see Ace Frehley May 15'th with my dad. Rock on!

Let it be, beautiful, When I sing the, last song! I will give, even, my body! Spirit walker!

Let all the children, Kiss the sun! Before they sing, the last song! Spirit walker, Spirit walker! Spirit walker spirit walker!

  • hell yea! im 15 to and i am addicted to the cult! thnx ta dad lol in fact im ordering in southern death cult which will take like two weeks.... its only been two days and it feels like its neva gonna come lol! CFFC!

  • WHO CARES OLD DEFT LEGS IS ON!

  • when and how did Ian decide to change his image from this early one ?

  • I love this song!!!

  • Wow, first time I've seen this in 20 years. still an amazing song and performance from The Cult on The tube.

  • the drums are usaualy much better and by better i mean difficult

  • I have been playing drums for 20+ years and in shows I add more diffuCULTy to the set. It just goes to show that the studio recording was not replicable live. 2 drum tracks were recorded. This version of the song was still awesome and Ian sounded rediculous.

  • ah ok

  • Have you ever heard the studio track? It is an import and was not released in the U.S. unless it was on a greatest hits. The chorus was completely changed on the drums and vocals. I don't know if Ian didn't want to sing his Ahhhh haaa ahhh ahhh part or what. Maybe the drummer changed up his part to fit Ian's modified chorus. I am by no means knocking this performance. It is AWESOME. I just think that the lyrical hook is left off of this version of the song. Just listen to the studio track.

  • ye makes a great alarm!

  • Excellent song that brought the Cult to stardom. The drumming intro was simplified....no wonder I had a tough time playing the drums to this song. Also the Aaaaa-Haaaa-Aaaa-Aaa hook is missing in this version. Still without this hook, and intro beat, the song rocks.

  • pure class indeed

  • What is Jack Gyllenhall doing here ?

  • is that billy duffy and jamie stewart there, cuz they kinda look like them yet they sorta look like other ppl lol

  • Yes, that is Billy minus the bleached hair, and that is definately Jamie Stewart on bass. They should have kept this lineup (including the drummer) until now....

  • Except the drummer died in 1991 RIP Nigel

  • great band glad they still tour..

  • Let all the children kiss the sun, yeah baby

  • Thanks for the video, really cool stuff!

  • Wonderful.

  • not the Jools Holland show, it was an 80's programme called The Tube. Paula Yates was co-host.

  • They were such a magnificent band live . The records don't do them justice .

    OOO WAAAAAAA !

  • what year was this?

  • About 82.83????

  • Its actually 1984.
