wow..no body could scream in a worn out voice, only Gillan could, Blackmore is boring at this point of time, he were only good at the studio at this point of time, but in the '93 come hell or high water, i guess Ritchie Became interesting again
I saw Deep Purple in the 80's as well as in '94 and he was still belting it out, especially on Child in Time, he appears to ill in this video, he does cough at the beggining.
One thing came to my mind:Gillan always does what need to be done, wether if he's ill or deadly tired...You can see him coughing!Anyway they all worked hard all time, and I don't think we can judge them by one bad performance. They are in ungbelivable good shape at the most of the time!
Blackmore's tone sucks, also he is too loud here so you can hear his shitty playing very well that's why everyone is disappointed. The way you play depends on your tone a lot, for example Malmsteen has perfect technique but listen to him at Fender party (or something) where he uses another gear and he sounds bad and it seems like he makes mistakes
I am sure that Gillian is suffering a lotabot his voice , I have known this experience and it's terrible for the one who lives that, It can happen to anyone no matter how good you are!!!******
Second listen..1. I am no sound engineer, but I think we are getting some stage sound ie close up recording, pre mixing as well. 2. !! I could be wrong but I think ..JL sets up RB for a solo, RB starts, then JL rides right over him!!
Looked like Blackmore lost interest and couldn't be bothered, just showed a bit of what he could have done. Gillan good in parts but tired in others but looks to be enjoying it. (would have been pre tonsil op) .Others steady away and great and consistent as always. Divisions, sects, infighting maybe, all not well perhaps. Good vid. 80s. Before Gillan was sacked, I guess. Blackmore assumed control (for a while) I don't think it was next time around with Gillan when Blackmore went. I could be wrong.
wats up wit ritchie in this vid its like hes really pissed off and doesnt wanna be there, he doesnt even play a solo, im very dissapointed , but the rest are still rockin out, i mean u gotta give gillian credit he sang like a fuckin beast for 20 years and that does a lot of damage so thts y his singing is a little off
The whole world thinks about the voice of Ian Gillan, if you were good or bad their voice, but none of those who write reviews you can get a note like.and Ritchie is god¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡.
Why the hell did Ian cut his hair? He looked so cool when in Black Sabbath, long hair like the early 70's, even on the 'Perfect Strangers' promo picture. That asshat Axl Rose actually adapted Ian's style from the early 80's, with aviator shades and a bandana.
For those complaining about Ian's voice, he had a cold this night. Of course when you have a bad night, with a cold etc. they have to film the show. That's why this wasn't released. Ian did well despite a cold I think.
thanks for the contrib mate who uploaded this vid but i didn't like your comments, you shouldn't judge this guys. specially if you're gonna distinct between them, this is about sounding good as a band... with their available means.. nowadays they're not 25 anymore.
If something is not good as it is, one should be able to tell it. Also, it's not about their age, I've seen Gillan freakin' rockin 4 years ago, and Blackmore 5 years ago. They are at least 20 years younger (probably more) in this video, and Blackmore definitely puts no effort into what he's doin, and Gillan seems very tired. It's not judging, stating the obvious maybe.
@Fragellant - No, I think you're right about this performance. Gillan does seem tired -- misses his notes and loses the timing. That cat is the one singer I've ever heard who can literally shriek on key, and he just doesn't get there in this one. It happens. This was obviously the end of this particular show, unless there was an encore after. You get tired. And Blackmore was barely in this one. Even goes all Malmsteen for a (mercifully) brief moment there around 7:35. Not their best. So it goes.
Gillan is Definitely Fighting throat Problems here. His voice was almost in shreds. Also must have been a bad night for the band. Everybody was off and making mistakes. Blackmores solos during the 80's didn't make a lot of sense. They lacked the magic and intensity that they did in the 70's. And Jon needed to unleese the beast again.

I bet it's a video from The Perfect Strangers era. Blackmore never didi anything at the shows he just stood there and played. My Brother who actually saw Purple play live told me that Blackmore took about five steps during the whole freaking show
yeah I red about this concert when Glover had to support gillan cause Gillan was very ill. Is a pitty cause seems that Gillan has the potencial to sing like those days but also seems to be extremely tired.
Wow, this is 2001. OK I see. very good. I think Gillan has just been so hard on his voice over the years. I would imagine with some treatment and some rest, along with a coach, he would harness the potential he has left and turn it into something very very good.

I guess u'r right, not late too late 80's, absolutely not early 90's. Probably between 84-88... The audio track also seems to be worked on a bit.
@Jewlampijs
Gillan coughs on the stage, detones regularly, I must admit I really didn't like him in this clip. He lacks more than his screaming ability.
But it's the end of the concert, he's tired, I've heard him sing better at older ages.
