srsly sxsw is known for the shitty crowd, if you ever went, it's a hipster land with stuck up brats who don't listen to "mainstream" music, Muse being the case.

I wasnt there but I heard this was a secret show, so im guessing the lucky poor bastards that actually got into this show were the rich premium badge members who probobly only knew black holes and revelations. Austin is actually a much better crowd from my experiences. Check acl 2010 knights of cydonia. That was a blasty blast. However I will agree with the groaning of the camera fans. Those guys are lamee. I would have pushed some folks around by now. Theyll regret their blasphemys one day!

@MrRage2112 I went to see them in Aberdeen and it was quite a small crowd (I say small, it was 6000 people) but the crowd were really into it. They were jumping around a singing for almost the entire gig. But I agree. Muse are better suited to huge crowds!

Saw them in Baltimore this year 2010 and they were awesome. Saw them in a small venue in Buffalo NY in 2005 and the crowd was singing along with the band it was fantastic. Muse is the best band ever, period, end of story!

I was there and yeah the crowd was pretty shitty. But, as I am sure its been explained, this was extremely hard to get into. Gotta know someone to get you in kinda deal so it wasn't a muse crowd. I am a Muse fan though, so it was great for me. It was great to see Muse at a small venue and to be so close... probably wont happen again.

The crowd sucks because SXSW is a $700 per ticket corporate-level music event. Those are not Muse fans in there...Outside was great though. We were all going crazy on the grass next to Stubbs. And since I got to meet Matt that night, I have no complaints about not getting in :)

ps: none of this is to say that the "biggest fans" (how does one MEASURE that nonsense anyway?) make better crowds, because that's not always true. and non-fans can be made into fans by amazing shows. but unappreciative, close-minded people like the ones at this show remain the same: "oh yeah that band The Muse. yeah they suck. they're too commercial..." I've heard it so many times before.

(and the last bit to my essay) ...no matter how you got into Muse, no matter how long you've been a fan or how much you know about them, the fact is they're an unbelievable live band and are some of the hardest working guys in the business. to not appreciate such a rare and intimate gig (I was standing no more than 10-15 feet away from them) as this is just SAD. way to make Muse NOT excited about performing in Texas. I still feel angry about this crowd. to this day. cheers, dear readers.

despite everything negative about the show that night, I had an AMAZING time. I think I nearly passed out because I expended all of my energy dancing and jumping and yelling and arms in the air and everything. I wish many more people who appreciated Muse had been there. it would've been a totally different atmosphere. it's not like you HAVE to be a hardcore fan to enjoy this band, but the crowd was so stiff.

the fact that so many Musers (aka people who LOVE Muse) were outside CRYING because they couldn't get into the gig is just heartbreaking because most of the people inside couldn't give two shits about Muse. I can only count myself and a guy I made friends with in the crowd the ONLY people, at least in our section, who were jumping up and down and singing all the songs. we were into it. so yeah, Austin crowd sucked and I'm so sorry Muse's super intimate rare gig was as such.

I won a contest (only 25 winners) which allowed me entrance to the gig which was amazing. most of the people there were stuck-up hipsters who seemed more enthusiastic about Metric than Muse. shameful. I was one person away from the barrier (and the people in front of me shouldn't have been there--they were PATHETIC) and the guy in front of me who was BADMOUTHING MUSE before the gig GOT CHRIS'S HARMONICA. damn shame.
