The dog's evolution is different from the cat's one... The weaker, smaller and less wild wolfs were able to aproach humans, that feed them and teach them... I don't know how was cat's evolution, but they're still more wild than dogs, that's why they usually won't obey you just like that... They're very proud, but they can still learn... My cat learn to sit and stay quiet when I give him meat, for example.

I said how wolves came to be domesticated by humans. Big, agressive and wild wolves couldn't just approach humans, you see? So the weaker and smaller of the pack that couldn't get enough food (because they were weaker and smaller) would search for food around human's societies. And yeah, cats are smarter =) Fact, can't argue.
@silversification Cats intelligence is much more like our own, btw. If you'd call your mom, would she always come running incredibly happy to you? No, neither would the cat. Felines don't usually travel in large packs, which means they don't have the need for "society skills". They don't need to learn to obey. They learn what they want from themselves. My cat has learned he doesn't need to open the door, but just scrach it to make that awful noise, so I get sick of it and go open for him lol
@LuaTheMage Actually, when it comes to brain size and learning dogs have cats beat by a landslide :) so no, cats are not smarter. Scientific testing has been done, CNN even was talking about this a couple months ago. That's the reason why cats can't learn as much as dogs, not because "they don't want to" (you're giving them HUMAN emotions when you say that by the way) they just don't know how to. Do the research. I own both cats AND dogs, love them both, but my dogs are a lot smarter.

If you're willing to give me the names of good authors that said that dogs are smarter than cats and I find their metodology is good, then yeah, I'll take it. But as for what I've seen, I can say exactly what I said: Cats and dogs intelligence are different. I'm not saying they have human feelings, just that they have. It's natural for a cat in the wild to comfort other that is about to die, staying by itsside.

@LuaTheMage do a Google search, you can find a lot of things out with a little research :) And no, cats can't learn as nearly as much as dogs nor can they UNDERSTAND commands. Scientists say cats don't understand cause and effect like dogs do. For example, if I tell a cat to STAY in one spot and he doesn't, so I swat him with a newspaper (just using an example) he will continue to move around, no matter how many times you swat it. They don't understand CAUSE and effect.

OF COURSE dogs learn commands better. They were breed to do so. Cats CAN learn commands - it's harder and they just don't want to, but they do. Cats are alert to what they call "prey movement", so when they start to play with sth and it moves in a different way, they enjoy it. They are natural stalkers, amazing hunters. They kill small animals and put them by your bed to say "Hey, look what I got. I'm helping to keep the house, ok?" like a nice pest control xD

HA all of you are fighting over animals. Dogs and cats both rock! I have a cat and a dog, and yes cats are more independent than dogs, but dogs are more loyal. Cats and dogs both love you, and that is what counts. One day my dog kept my cat warm all day after it rained, and my cat grooms my dog all the time. I am sure that cats and dogs don't hate each other, they are our pets, and we love them.
@ITSaSASQUATCH I had a dog and cat but the cat got 12 years and died whit a loung infection but we stil have the dog who´s 10 and they agreed just fine :)
At least cats actaully do things for themselves! Dogs can't do anything for themselves you have to do everything for them, you can't name one thing a dog does for himself, you have to do everything e.g Walk him, wash him, take hiim out to piss. You even have to occupy him throughout the day and stimulate him all the time! Dogs just cant cope on there own! The main reason dogs become like that is either they are trained to be or they are pent up and too full of energy and just release it in a bad way. It's the owner's fault. Train a dog well and it will never bite anyone. Mine sure hasn't and he's bordering on 12 now.

@silversification Pay attention, kid. I was talking about canine evolution to the domestic dogs, I didn't say wolfs are small, or that dogs are small. I said how wolves came to be domesticated by humans. Big, agressive and wild wolves couldn't just approach humans, you see? So the weaker and smaller of the pack that couldn't get enough food (because they were weaker and smaller) would search for food around human's societies. And yeah, cats are smarter =) Fact, can't argue.

@silversification Cats intelligence is much more like our own, btw. If you'd call your mom, would she always come running incredibly happy to you? No, neither would the cat. Felines don't usually travel in large packs, which means they don't have the need for "society skills". They don't need to learn to obey. They learn what they want from themselves. My cat has learned he doesn't need to open the door, but just scrach it to make that awful noise, so I get sick of it and go open for him lol

@LuaTheMage Actually, when it comes to brain size and learning dogs have cats beat by a landslide :) so no, cats are not smarter. Scientific testing has been done, CNN even was talking about this a couple months ago. That's the reason why cats can't learn as much as dogs, not because "they don't want to" (you're giving them HUMAN emotions when you say that by the way) they just don't know how to. Do the research. I own both cats AND dogs, love them both, but my dogs are a lot smarter.

@Severe777 The assessment of "intelligence" is kinda complicated in scientific terms. If you're willing to give me the names of good authors that said that dogs are smarter than cats and I find their metodology is good, then yeah, I'll take it. But as for what I've seen, I can say exactly what I said: Cats and dogs intelligence are different. I'm not saying they have human feelings, just that they have. It's natural for a cat in the wild to comfort other that is about to die, staying by itsside.

For example, I like to fake cry and my dog would think I'm really crying and would run by my side right away :P Cats and dogs are both lovable animals, and you're right they both got their ups and their downs, but when it comes to BONDING and teaching an animal, dogs IN MY opinion are better. Your opinion might be different, and I respect that. And I'm just going a long with what CNN said, CNN said dogs were smarter. So... yea. lol.

Simple like that. But if you're there to see, they learn things by themselves: how to open the door, the car's window, the washer... -_- usually things you don't want them to learn. And as for scientific literature, I wouldn't bet everything on CNN. Just saying...

@LuaTheMage do a Google search, you can find a lot of things out with a little research :) And no, cats can't learn as nearly as much as dogs nor can they UNDERSTAND commands. Scientists say cats don't understand cause and effect like dogs do. For example, if I tell a cat to STAY in one spot and he doesn't, so I swat him with a newspaper (just using an example) he will continue to move around, no matter how many times you swat it. They don't understand CAUSE and effect.

(This is a test scientists have done) A dog will eventually find out which string has the piece of food attached to it, where a cat on the other hand would keep tugging on the wrong string not knowing if he tugged on the other string, he will get the food. These are tests that been done scientifically. Cats don't understand cause and effect.

Their brains are LARGER. Want to know why? Because dogs are pack animals, not only with other dogs but mainly humans. During centuries of time learning from humans, dogs brain size has increased. @Severe777 Yeah, a GOOGLE research is really scientific stuff xD All that you say just can't impress me. As I said, dogs and cats have different types of intelligence. OF COURSE dogs learn commands better. They were breed to do so. Cats CAN learn commands - it's harder and they just don't want to, but they do. My cat learned he's gotta sit to receive food, meow for me to go change his litter box, and so on. And about the fear thing, remember dogs are WAY more often run over in streets XP

@Severe777 The "playing with senseless shit" is just playing, of course it's senseless. Like a dog fetching a ball makes any sense... Cats are alert to what they call "prey movement", so when they start to play with sth and it moves in a different way, they enjoy it. They are natural stalkers, amazing hunters. They kill small animals and put them by your bed to say "Hey, look what I got. I'm helping to keep the house, ok?" like a nice pest control xD

And just to let you know, a lot more cats die in society then dogs do. And if you want the truth, just visit a science site, I honestly don't care lol. And what does fear got to do with dogs getting ran over? I've seen more dead cats on the street then dogs in my life. It's harder for cats to learn commands? Exactly, because they are less smart :)

HA all of you are fighting over animals. Dogs and cats both rock! I have a cat and a dog, and yes cats are more independent than dogs, but dogs are more loyal. Cats and dogs both love you, and that is what counts. One day my dog kept my cat warm all day after it rained, and my cat grooms my dog all the time. I am sure that cats and dogs don't hate each other, they are our pets, and we love them.

At least cats actaully do things for themselves! Dogs can't do anything for themselves you have to do everything for them, you can't name one thing a dog does for himself, you have to do everything e.g Walk him, wash him, take hiim out to piss. You even have to occupy him throughout the day and stimulate him all the time! Dogs just cant cope on there own! At least cats have some independance and actaully have a brain to think for themselves. Dogs are just controlled by there 'masters'

The main reason dogs become like that is either they are trained to be or they are pent up and too full of energy and just release it in a bad way. It's the owner's fault. Train a dog well and it will never bite anyone. Mine sure hasn't and he's bordering on 12 now.

dogs i like cats but kittens will play with you but when theyve grown up kittys never play. and loook at all the things dogs do. there in the police they help in crime and they can save your life. i cant see a kitty saving your life. cats usually sit down and wait for their next meal but there still cool but i like kittens more than cats. so what if you have to take dogs on walkies and clean up their poo taking them walkies is good fun.
