  • Followed them all over the country and ate Xmas dinner at Town and Country Club with the lads too.We were from Scotland but thumbed it everywhere to see them i still have my NMA tattoo and wouldnt have changed it for the world if i could go back not for anything.Pongo,Lincoln Jimmy,Brett,Chester Mark when the whole of UK were on terraces killing each other the Militia was made up of lads from the same backgrounds but different towns all in Same shitty situation with no future.Clogs Jock.

  • 25 years wheres it gone i was there that night and many others leeds, sunderland, blackburn, happy times !!!!!

  • I was at this gig, saw many NMA gigs back then.......great times

  • Cheers Moose. You and Morrow were the best bassists NMA have ever had.

  • Takes me back! Going to see NMA in December.

PS is that a black Westone Thunder bass?

  • westone thunderjet. it was stuart's.

  • LOL. Excellent.

The neck of my 1982 Westone Spectrum is in it's third incarnation now... the bass died long ago but the neck has lived on. It now has a p-bass body and quaterpounder pickups.

Fond memories of those days in the 80s.

  • I still have the Westone Thunder 1A I bought back in the day I thought I was Stuart Morrow. Dog of a guitar but I can never part with it.

  • I still have the neck of my Westone spectrum on a luthier built body!

I also have an '82 Westone Thunder active guitar.

  • Just the best band ever ,38 now ,14 first time i saw them at leeds ,waggy from dewsbury still liveing the life of a 20 year old .

  • Hey Moose! Top man - i was envious as hell of you back then!

Can i be an anorak? What was the bass?

  • Stu Morrow was too much of a showman for Justin!??

  • Wow! Moose you were soooo skinny here. Is this before Rob Heaton taught you to DRINK? :)Gr8 stuff.

PS. did you guys play at the Rockpalst in 1987? I've not been able to find footage of it.

  • yeah, first gig...17-years-old and pissed on two pints back then.

i don't think we did play there whilst i was with the band, so no surprise that there's no footage.

  • Ah I see. Because I found this on the Rockpalst website.

    Bizarre 10.07. - 11.07.1987 / Loreley Freilichtbühne

Siouxsie & The Banshees, Iggy Pop, The Mission, Julian Cope, Element of Crime, New Model Army, Cassandra Complex, Swimming In Sand.

    Not ring any bells ??

  • yeah, remember the loreley festival, did it twice. i think we played it again in 89. it wasn't filmed though, either time.

somebody sent me a bootleg (audio) of both, but there were no cameras there (officially), and i'm not aware of any bootleg video.

  • Amazing footage Moose. Haven't seen New Model Army live since 2003 (kids came along in 2004 gigging days were cut short quite severely, although My wife and I are going to the Freeborn John gig in Leeds on feb 14th (so will get to see slade and Joolz again)

I was at this gig with my cousin (who introduced me to NMA)

    Thanks for the memories

  • Thanks for posting your collection Moose. I saw NMA for the first time in 14 years last month. They're still a great band but it felt strange watching them without Robert Heaton. I really enjoyed your tribute to him on NMA's website. He sounded a smashing bloke as well as a great musician.
