The thing is that the magic of books lie in the words, not the pages--the pages of a book are just an intermediary. I don't see anything sacrilegious about writing in books that belong to me because it's just paper.
Ah Harry Potter. I am currently rereading the series as well (almost done with number five). I just got a craving to reread it, and dropped the two other books that I was reading (a Star Trek book and War Horse). Not that they were bad or boring, but I just had to read Harry Potter.
And I don't write in my books. I think the only books I'd consider writing in (if I had copies of them), are the Twilight books. Because anything would be an improvement, even my stick figure doodles in the margins.
