i was impressed at first of all the rhythmic structures, the slapping, popping, looping, overdubbing, flageloets, and so on... good job so far, really kept me watching... BUT when the so called "hook kicks in", it just felt really, really poor! using fourths throughout the whole hook??? he's gotta be kidding! it sounds like a 7yo just started playing guitar and is having fun with that harmonical crap, because he hasn't developed any sense of harmony yet! i'm sorry, i just can't like it!

I think most people expect the massive dance version, don't wait for the obvious hook and aren't open to something a bit different.

Clever that you managed to interpret this song but tbh it doesn't "keep all the excitement of the original despite stripping it right back to its bare roots". Without the moody lyrics insomnia isn't particularly powerful imo. But whatever, sounds quite nice.

At about 1:30 is where the main hook kicks in and then the big break is at about 2 mins. It's constructed differently from the original, shuffled in places but still taken from the Faithless version and presented in another format.

Oh yeah. No lyrics either. He's an instrumentalist and thus that bit is often discarded.
