DP mark 2 created their own genre, not a style but an entire genre of which only they played. It could be called: HARD rhythm and symphonidelic jazz ROCK. When these five were together it was pure magic. On the first four albums all the songs were group compositions.
inspired me to get off my arse fire up my old HiFi and slot the CD in the slot for a blast of "this is how rock should sound" this album was the blue print for rock albums that followed and something Deep Purple never really matched even the mighty Machine Head didn't have the aggression this album put across.
It's disgusting that Purple isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. They've been ignored time and time again while NON ROCKERS like Madonna have been inducted...SICKENING!
This album opened a riff in the space time continuum thru which the Spirit of Heavy Metal emerged into our dimension. It then opened the minds of the people, to new alchemical possibilities of a world where Rock would become Metal.
Yes, A marked departure from the predominantly heavy blues of their predessors and certainly one of the first metal songs. Great use of rhymic devices, heavy harmonic minor scales and far eastern scales are also here, amongst the more bluesy sounds. Certainly its songs like this that forged metal from rock.
My older brother once told me he didn't like this album, that Ritchie Blackmore was not a good guitarist. Anybody who loves experimental hard rock and appreciates original style is silly not to realize this is a great song. I told him, "You're a nutcase. Besides... I'd love to give you a Fender Guitar and Marshall amp, and watch you try and play it!"
like that song, metal stuff, no lie, gallopping rhytm, like nazareth in this flight tonight, but much faster and louder. blackmore and lord soloing, blackmore tremolo, feetbackplaying awsome !!!!!!!

Bands flat out here. Exellant example of HARD ROCK.
Love Ritchies playing in this from 3.40 to 4.40, so crisp as usual.
