The helicopter looks scary, effective, and ugly. I kind of like the Mi-24 Hind D and the Mi-28 Havoc N better because of their appearance though. The AH-64 D Longbow, AH-1 Cobra, and the Eurocopter all seem great too. The ingeniuity of both the former U.S.S.R and U.S. are amazing. However, both Russia and the United States are severely lacking in certain aspects compared to the rest of the world. I can't pinpoint it but something is missing in both nations that they had before.

Some of us in the west have known it for a long time. The Ka-50 and Ka-52 are powerfull weapons of war. I have flown choppers sims for years and have a great respect for it. I don't doubt its capabilities but the main reason why I often choose the AH-64D or other Western gear are the Man Machine Interface. But the other are the philosofy behind them. In the west we love stand-off capabilities. I rarely get near enough to use the chain when I fly. if I can hit wih a gun, so can the opposition

@789joshi The Ka50 depends on avionics too. Where as the AH64 have two people to do the job, the Ka50 only have one. This seriously degrades situational awareness of the Ka50. Avionics are what makes the Ka50 pilot able to do a two-man job. The Pro of the Ka50 is that it saves around 500kg of pilot and equipment. Which can be used on armour. Lets not forget that all those fancy toys are there to support the boots on the ground. Only boots can hold territory.

The Mi-24 is formidable and has good speed but its more like a fast attack helicopter and its an AA magnet, not suitable for terrorist operations, its more of tank killer role. Mi-8MTV has missiles but still too much ordinance for terrorist hunt.Normal Mi-8 is suitable because it has small weaponry. The Ka-50 has been proven to be excellent in Urban battles,small very maneuverable thats why Russian army likes it.

The US's ONLY true attack helicopter predates the KA-50 by 4 years. And yeah eliminating the tail rotor system (which is arguably the attack helicopter's achelle's heel), increasing engine power by 30% without increasing the engine size and making it the most maneuverable helicopter EVER all with a single design idea, yeah that's not coming up with anything new.

But at the other hand it is more reliable than those thich has this computer power because well put a computer in russian conditions it soon enough it will fall apart. Tempratures from -45°C till +45°C, dirt, dust, bad service and bad fuel, I think there are only handfull helicopters which can survive this stuff.
@cy156326 That's not necessarily a bad thing. Over complication of a sytem, especially avionics suites, can leave a platform fatally vulnerable. The software/hardware is only as good as its weakest link. And this often is the user. Just look at the unbelievable events that happened on the USS Vincense, a state-of-the-art guided missile destroyer that shot down an Iran Air Airbus A300 in error, for proof of this. Complexity does not necessarily equate to superiority.

When you figure F-22 is so much better than F-15 and has the stealth which is why it takes a lot of maintenance.
In short you used a bad example when you brought in the F-22 because that machine is f^^^king king.

They're able to create a technology that can outmatch the USA's one without ruining their budgets and that's a good point. This is the best chopper in the world and the west barely knows about it. It reminds of the 80's and 90's when the western world all thought american fighter jets were unmatched. don't get me wrong, i love russian helicopters, i think the ka52 and the hind helicopters are awesome and better than their american counterparts. i wish the americans design something similar. however, in my opinion, i think the russians lack highly advanced avionics that the americans have.

@cy156326 true... This helicopter looks really badass and it was always my favorit but it has this lag of computer power and avionics which makes it very vulnerable. But at the other hand it is more reliable than those thich has this computer power because well put a computer in russian conditions it soon enough it will fall apart. Tempratures from -45°C till +45°C, dirt, dust, bad service and bad fuel, I think there are only handfull helicopters which can survive this stuff.

The software/hardware is only as good as its weakest link. And this often is the user. Just look at the unbelievable events that happened on the USS Vincense, a state-of-the-art guided missile destroyer that shot down an Iran Air Airbus A300 in error, for proof of this. Complexity does not necessarily equate to superiority.

@MP7A3 Cost overruns are only because they cut the numbers produced way, way short. It's not a nightmare to maintain either its 18 hours for the 1 hour flown compared to F-15 which is 11 hours. When you figure F-22 is so much better than F-15 and has the stealth which is why it takes a lot of maintenance.
In short you used a bad example when you brought in the F-22 because that machine is f^^^king king.

I firmly believe that Russian technology is very much superb and given the proof of these 2 helicopters against the Apache. I agree that the Apache is a waste of money compared to these machines. I always wondered why We waste so much money on technology that can not be cost effective in growth... 2.the only crew member in a AFV who died was a commander of a bradley(he stuck his head out of the hatch...you are NOT supposed to do that especially after already being hit)
3.the russians would have NEVER lasted as long as they did without the help from almost every other country in the world
4.the bradley destroyed more tanks than any other AFV during the first gulf war(even more than the abrams)

1. Not exactly. Look up for later chapters how many times do i have to tell you?
2. Bradleys got severe losses in Iraq. Watch Blacktail`s series on it.
3. The Russians won all major turning points of war such as Battle for Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk all by themselves. Destroying 80% of Axis forces incl 1,5 japaneese army. LL was just 4% of what we had during WW2, and 97% of those 4% came AFTER 1943. No significant bombings of germany till summer 1944 was either.

@MarshallJukov 5. he states that all the rounds the abrams fires are wastes of money, but seeing as though the M829A3 can match or beat any other modern tank round(even 125mm ones) means they are certainly NOT"crap"

7.exactly, the M1A1and2 have much better of basically everything than the M1
8.and the saudis are purchasing the T-90 for the medium tank role,while the abrams will fill the MBT role.

5. Its waste of money when you use rounds NOT in role they designed to be used, thats why in 95% of the times - its a waste in case with M829. And sorry, it can`t penetrate T-90+4S23 (even with 4S22) ERA. While M1 itself is extremely vulnerable.
6. Heaviest Leo 2 has mass of 62,5 metric tonnes, M1A2SEP - 63 metric tonnes. And watch mobility chapter.

8. T-90 is MBT. and it has more armor and firepower than Leo 2, not to mention M1 Abrams.

@MarshallJukov the M829A3 can penetrate over 850mm of armor, while the T-90 only has about 800mm of armor at its thickest point with ERA vs APFSDS. the abrams on the other hand has over 900mm of armor WITHOUT ERA vs APFSDS. and the strongets russian round i can find can only penetrate 800mm of armor. and ive watched most of this abrams thing and i cant find
