JUST MADE IT... In 1967 "A Girl Like You" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 9 weeks in the Top 100...
This record was the 2nd in a string of three straight records by The Young Rascals to make the Top 10; started with "Groovin' " {#1}, then this song, and finally "How Can I Be Sure" {#4}...
I used to play this song on YouTube all the time and then it just disappeared. Thanks to bosewell69 for uploading this wonderful song so that we may hear it again.
Saw the Rascals at the Convention Center in Anaheim, CA late 1969/early 1970. Sold out performance ... 2nd row from the stage ... believe the opening act was Delaney & Bonnie & Friends.

Ive been player their c.d in my car for months, yet i havent got tired of them yet ,ill be going down the street with my sunroof down full blast and get alot waves..their music will not fade as long as the fans are there..
I LOVED this song... It came out a few months after I was born, but I remember hearing it a lot on the radio even years later, and one of my cousins had the 45... This one, and "People Got to Be Free", which still had a useful message in the late 1970s...
@skipper8257 The reason you don't hear this song much on oldies stations is that oldies stations as you and I define them don't exist in American radio. It's the same 50-100 tunes played over and over again ad nauseum to the point that you want to pull the insides out of the radio. This song, along with hundreds of others, should be played regularly on all stations everywhere regardless of format.
Too good to be called mere pop. Listen to that arrangement, the true soul of the vocals, the craft in the lyric. Musicians' musicians who are still loved all over the world by anyone not encumbered by wooden ears.
As an African-American I can honestly say these guys were one of the best soul bands this country has ever produced. I saw them once, I believe at the Winter Concert for Peace at MSG in NY (1970?-71?). They didn't merely play and sing well, but were always respectful of the music and the black performers of the era. Beautiful music, beautiful time.
@shellyboy9 As an American-American I can honestly say that you are an asshole if you think being black makes you more qualified to comment on or criticize music. The fact that you and I are both black means nothing. We don't have any rights or claims to certain musical styles and we are not the Trustees of Black culture.MUSIC LIKE ANY OTHER ART FORM IS FOR PUBLIC ENJOMENT. ALL ARE WELCOME So shut up and enjoy.
@joeytwosubs Since you seem to be either lazy, stupid, or incapable of seeing beyond your own narcissism (pick two), let me be your daddy. If you had read previous comments, or were knowledgeable enough, you'd know the amount of flack this band has/had taken over the years for being white while doing soul music. I merely wanted to say some (many?) African-Americans applauded this band and appreciated their classy response to this criticism.
@joeytwosubs Now, if you can bother to take the time to read these comments, you would see that I had already said pretty much those selfsame comments that you espouse: African-Americans are not and cannot be the only purveyors of this music, or this music will die. The threads of music unite us all. Also, when you have lived as long as I have, and have seen as much live music as I, and maybe have played with as many bands as I, perhaps we can talk music instead of exchanging silly barbs.
The piano gets stuck at the beginning but the Rascals worked it out somehow. Oh that was part of the song? sorry, great part then. Piano swirling twirling rings round my skull taking me venturing down to the slipstreams behind the viaducts of my dreams in the back-roads ditch of glory dreams that I didn't live out. I'm in ecstasy anyway
One of their finest including Groovin' and my personal favorite: A beautiful Morning. What could be their worst biggest hit: People got to Be Free.
Felix you know what it's all about. Song should have been a soundtrack for some great movie. Like the Lovin' Spoonful did with Coppola's You're a big girl Now .. a better movie than Godfather III. seriously.
OH THOSE VILLA DAYS; YEAH, THERE WERE PAINFUL ONES, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO AFFAIRS OF THE HEART, LIKE DAVE MASON SINGS, "THERE AIN'T NO GOOD GUYS (AND GIRLS); THERE AIN'T NO BAD GUYS; THERE WAS ONLY YOU AND ME AND WE JUST DISAGREED." NONE OF THAT MEANT THAT LOVE WASN'T THERE, JUST BECAUSE....
I came a little late as always. Spent the 80's and half of the 90's doing stuff I should have not been doing . Rediscovering a bunch groups from the 60's I loved as a kid. No band from America had as much talent as these guys did . What a great band , I truly love this group.
Sadly, this song does not get nearly as much airplay as Groovin', Good Lovin', A Beautiful Morning or People Got To Be Free. This and I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore are my top favorites by The Rascals!

Man I just love these old songs. The world was a much better place back when were listening to this music on the radio and life was good! Those times are gone, but the music lives on! Thank you for posting this cute little oldie! It's always been one of my favorites!

@gdwmontg All of their Sullivan appearances were on You Tube at one time but got yanked. Must have been a copyright issue.
