Toho used the look of Super Godzilla for Space Godzilla. So yes, Space Godzilla is heavily influenced by Super Godzilla which is something TOHO is known for doing. Licensing their character out then when they see a good idea they grab it because, after all, they own the character. Another good example is the story of Mothra 3 which was taken from a Dark Horse Godzilla comic written by popular Godzilla artist Bob Eggleton.

Toho originally intended Bagan to be a mothera enemy best of my memory then was going to us it for a godzilla film with mothera's return instead they came up with destroyah.
