  • If you guys want to know how to smooth on stv demo, visit my channel ! (sorry for spam)

  • Ah... Dude, can you update this? Please, this is really buggy

  • Comment removed

  • Ahhhhh,so that's how they maked the test video in CS:S!

  • When I go to hit "make key" I can no longer look around with my mouse…

  • Okay for all of you who are new to demo smoothing here's a little thing you're gonna hate. You can't see yourself in your own videos. I don't know if Valve interpretted it or if it's a glitch, but because your player model is technically the camera you cannot see yourself. Kinda stupid right? So if you make a video it's best to use actors.

  • @IHateHelicopters101 Nah, STV Demo's. :)

  • Awesome! :D

  • F*** this

  • song name?

  • I see random numbers where my keys are placed during playback. How to make them invisible?

  • Holding the make key button! Thank you so much! I never got that Idea :3

  • OMFG creepy engineer XD

  • thanks for the tutorials.

I got the smooth thing to work, but how the do I get myself in it?

I have a .dem of me killing a sentry. I want to be able to smooth as an outside view looking at myself kill the sentry. What commands do I have to use to do that?

I tried using sv_cheats 1 and then thirdperson 1, but all that does is show my player model running the smooth route, as well as taking my player model out of his original place in the .dem.

    Please, any help?

  • @JamesAnzaldua I don't think there is any way :(

  • I must ask, WHAT THE FUCK IS SMOOTHING!? Is it like in Meet the Team videos that render your game and make it epic after a Source record, and you can change the Camera Position (Like in GTA 4 video editor)?

  • @ENDORPHINSAM

    Yes

  • When i use a demo from a sniper my smooth gets ruined because it zooms in while in "Drive" and when i make a key it looks messed up. I replay the smooth and its like if my camera is zooming everytime the sniper zooms. Not sure if anyone gets my problem....

  • @crazyspooks10 i get the same, aaaargh....

  • i gave you a shitload of views becouse i bookmarked this page and i didnt bookmark my youtube homepage.

so evreytime i opened youtube your vid was first

    random thumbs up

  • What video recorder did you use? Plz answer!

  • @andjinson Fraps, most likely.

  • Your tut had vital information that I couldn't find in about 10 other tut's

    1:48

  • The Prodigy - Medusas Path :D

    just an awesome song

  • cant get show proceed work :(

  • I need desactivate de Zoom of sniper scope can u help me?

  • Waht be the song in the video i want it.

  • how do u add voice

  • Music the best :D The Prodigy

  • so lets say, you do a triplekill, you recorded a demo, you want to see that from a distant, how? this dosent explain anything, it just shows the sentry building up. Help please

  • @villur This explains everything. Pretend you got the triple kill right where the sentries at, you pan around to show it just like you seen the sentry building. Same thing, different content. Only problem is, you cannot see yourself when smoothing, which has been explained 100 times already.

  • I've been trying to do this but, my L4D keeps closing once I release the make key button D:

    Why is this happening? :(

  • how do u move the camera view like u did while smothing.

  • where do these save? saying i want to upload them to youtube or something? or do i have to do something else to get them on youtube....?

  • @PureAwsmness Play the demo file, and while it's playing, record with any video recorder, such as Fraps.

  • @Pevapa why would you use fraps? Use the built in source recorder to record a demo then play it back and make a movie using the appropriate commands, after that open it in vdub or another program and convert the highquality pics to a film

  • @Wazanator500 Simply because it's the most common response.

  • What do use to record?

  • it's just not working for me when i play the vagina_smooth i jsut get a shaky screen and a crosshari and i can fly around :/

  • awesome video!! thank you !!

  • I also recommend pldx recording tool for recording and extra effects.

  • really helpful thank you so much, greatly appreciated.

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Im having some trouble using the smoother with disappearing models. I realize that can't see my own model, but other player models in the game routinely disappear for a couple seconds before coming back. Any idea what this could be? I do have a pretty bad connection so I'm thinking its me lagging and losing the position of the players via packet loss, but hopefully not.

  • Can you upload this demo to a download site? Would be helpful.

  • dude thank you sooooo much this helped alot

  • awesome tutorial, thank you so much. :D

  • I did this for l4d2 and it worked! lol

  • @Dudey91188 Ofc it did.. TF2 and L4D2 is build on the same engine...

  • @JegTueland I knew that , Just making sure people who where unsure about what source smoothing games

  • does this work in other games?

  • @gadalia10 Works on games that runst on the Source engine, like CS:S, TF2, L4D, L4D2 etc.

And ofc, you need to know how to open the console :p in the game you want to do this in

  • The Make Key part doesn't work for me. It bugs up after that.

  • whats the song?

  • What happens when u go third person?

  • i cant move the camera like with wasd

  • ITS SO FUCKING HARD!

  • A recording records things from the perspective of the person recording, the server only sends people info about what they can see and what is nearby, thus if you make a demo you cant in that demo view someone far away because the server never sent you the info on his action to be recorded.

  • That sentry is smexy!

  • But how do I see myself in the game?

  • sv_cheats 1 then thirdperson 1 xP

  • @fribe123 That's not what I meant. But don't worry, I found that's it's impossible. I didn't mean seeing my model in front of me, I meant seeing what I was doing through out the game.

  • @fribe123 that doesn't work, all it does is show your weird floating body, how do you get to see the original playermodel.

  • I dont really get why you have to push the double right arrow at 2:50. Can anyone explain?

  • how can i record myself?

  • @kotahlicious use the thirdperson thing and record then put the angle of where you want the camera to be at Eample: scout runs in intel room but i want it to be like a security camera put it by a corner and you will see the scout run in the room and grab the intel. make sure you record the scene

  • Ohhh....thanks a lot! I tried to do it, but It didn't work out because I forgot to hold pressing Make Key.

    Thanks a lot (:

    5* & Subbed.

  • how do u type in console??

  • i cant move the camerá :(

  • just what i was looking for!

    Thanks man!

  • Holy.....

    You're pro!

  • how can u record a third person view

  • I think there's a code in the console called "thirdperson"

    Haven't tried it yet.

  • But you need sv_cheats 1 lol

  • Awesome video man, SUBSCRIBED

  • this work in l4d 2?

  • yeah, it works in l4d2

  • SHFT+F2 isn't bringing up my menu..

  • type in demoui in console

  • How can you get yourself in picture. In other words, how can you get the engie in the movie too, since he seems to be invisible.

  • Comment removed

  • You can't. You don't get recorded in the demo. Like he says in the tut, you're the camera.

But, however, you can enable SourceTV by entering:

    tv_enable 1

    then using

    tv_record "DEMONAME"

And smooth the demo it records. This will record you, however, you can only do it on your own server/games.

As alternative, you can ask a friend to record a game you are in and let him send the demo to you, if you wanna do it on a public server.

  • you can't

    you'd need another pov demo

  • @Scats64 That's not possible.

You got to see it as, you are the camera man, therefore, if you want to smooth, you will move along with the camera path that you create, and got to hide your own model.

If you want to be in it, best is to ask some one to record in free look, so everything can be seen.

  • @Scats64 Demo must be recorded from others but not your perspective

  • @Scats64 you have to get someone else to record the demo, then you use that.

  • @Scats64 sourcetv

  • @Scats64 the 2cd command he typed made him invisible

  • @Scats64 Its impossible.

  • @Scats64 not possible =/

  • @Scats64 simple, you cant.

  • It works! but I get strange numbers/coordinates around the sentry? how do I hide them and where did they come from?

  • @weyzer01

Restart TF2, thats how I do it :)

  • good video but i didnt like the music...

  • I did everything like in the vid, but everytime when i play the smooth version i see the player (engineer) at the spot of the camera.

Or is it that the person who records cant be on the vid in thirdperson??

    Halp :/

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, they make this ridiculously complicated. I have a demo where three engies on the other team are chattering about building teleporters during an arena match. I want to see whats going on where they are, but this just seems impossible.

  • @GDorofu do this:

    shift+tab open up demoui

click smooth, then set view then click drive

play the demo and use w,a,s,d and mouse to move around and find those engies

  • Thanks, the whole thing is so unintuitive. But I guess it was never really meant for us to use. By us, I mean, we who do not work at VALVe.

  • pharadox05 thanx for this sweet video i will shure do 1 after this !

  • Nice, I think I'll learn how to do it. But before I want to learn how to damn make a slowmotion video...

  • TF2 always freezes up before I can finish the process :(

  • super complicated! wow! now i know what you guys go through every time you make a machinima! kudos!

  • For all you people having trouble, follow the tutorial EXACTLY step by step. It explains everything and as long as you do every step you shouldn't have any trouble whatsoever.

  • Dang, that is pretty smooth. =o

  • Thanks really nice tutorial but I've noticed this, don't know how to get rid of it. :S

When you're taunting with someone (heavy, hands in this case) it seems to pop up in front of you when you're actually somewhere else.

  • looks like a nice tut, but I couldn't get it working... it always smooths the player's path and not the green one I made

anyone know where is the problem? pls help

  • did you click show processed?

  • that comand do I need to see myself in the demo when im in drive (like the body not the 1ª person view) plz reply

  • You've been in spectator when recording, scroll a bit down this page to read a fix in the comments.

  • I think i maked all right, but sentry model was invisible and all others! What i did wrong?

  • Well first off you didn't use any Verbs correctly.

  • I laughed.

  • Smoothing in windowed mode running a different resolution than your desktop might cause your game to crash.

  • Thanks a million. Really needed this.

  • after smoothing, when i see the smoothed video i see the procces my model did as a line with numbers... is there a way to erase them?

  • I can't smooth demos made from the Spectator POV... I just can't move the camera around...

Is it supposed to be like this?

    TY in advance

  • thanks bro needed this

  • How did you set this movie on windows movie maker or adobe or sony vegas??

  • best smoothing tutorial ever! :D

But one thing: Is there any, ANY way to see urself in a demo?

  • In console type "thirdperson" with cheats enabled.

  • That does not work don't say shit before you test it :(

  • ... Yes it does work, you must be a total noob if you can't get that to work.

  • Sadly no but it can work if someone elce records a demo :(

  • sv_cheats 1 thirdperson -> thats the only way. Then bind the following commands to your keyboard: +camin +cammousemove +camout -camout +campitchdown +campitchup +camyawleft +camyawright
  • Hey thanks for the tutorial, I just wanted to ask you, is there any command you can do to make it so when you are in drive or smooth, you don't zoom in, since I was a sniper and I was zooming in during one of the smooth scenes and it was annoying.

  • after frame 550 in my demos, the smoother won't let me place anymore keys, and instead the button will be permanently set as "delete key" unless I delete the key but the problem still remains.

If you have any advice please help.

  • Make sure the tick, where you want to place the key is selected. Controll the Start- and the Endtick.

  • wait, you cannot see the original engineer in the video?? My video is ruined...

  • You can see yourself by using "sv_cheats 1" and "thirperson"

then bind the the commands "+camin"; "+camout"; "+campitchup"...and so on to your keyboard. You can now rotate around your character.

  • the sentry getting built slowly at the end was awesome nice vid

  • Prodigy owns!

  • shits soo complicated, this is driving me insane.

  • me too. can someone just post a tutorial on how to make an awesome tf2 video? thx if you do.

  • Really annoying music but thx

  • how do you put the video on youtube later?

  • Record with Fraps

  • Record it with fraps and it will make it a normal video.

  • Is there a way to keyframe a zoom? Sometimes I do some great sniper spree's and I wanted to somehow do a over-the-shoulder view.

  • yes thats possible, but very hard.

You first have to use thirdperson (sv_cheats 1; thirdperson) to get over the shoulder), then animate the camera with the demo smoother in very few ticks to the enemy. Note: You can't see yourself while smoothing. You are the camera. SO the shoulder view must be very short and only be done with thirdperson and not the smoother.

  • Thanks alot for this I wanted to start recording my demo's to file and now I can add alittle pizzas. This tutorial si so short and sweet, it's great.

  • Hmm.. In your smooth there is no engineer, and blueprint is placed like the camere build it. How can i smooth the game like as spectator?

  • can you read? i assume so since u can write.

he says it all in the beginning. jesus Oo

  • I know how to do engineer seeable, but he will be IN the camera when smoothing. I want just a movie from spectator eyes. It's only possible when demo was recorded by spectator or other person?( But in real game, it sucks, cause sounds, operator death animation, and more things).

  • So well this tutorial looks really great, but I still got a question about it: How the hell do you make it to let yourself see your own thirdperson model instead of nothing? As far as I know smoothed demos always show the hud and your weapons and actions you perform if you don't type the required console commands. Is it possible to make a "normal" demo show all actions and players incl yourself like in sourcetv? The fact you can't smooth sourceTV demos makes me cry... :/

  • poor you D:>

  • Comment removed

  • Ok, so this is really cool and helpful and all, but I need help with two things:

When I watch the smoothed demo, there are numbers (coordinates maybe?) all over the screen. How do I get rid?

Also, every time I shoot, the screen recoils from the shot. How do I also get rid?

  • I wanna know the same things.. >_>

    Please help!

  • the only way for numbers is to restart TF2 , and about screen recoild , u can't get rid of them unless you wanna find such a command which i never bothered to find. But i can say one thing , when i wanted to delete medics healing effect , the same command also delets the smoke and fire after soldiers rockets and explosions ... looks just terrible.

  • how do I make it so that MY character appear on the screen?

  • Comment removed

  • OMGeee valve are idiots they have made it really messed in 15th engine build. I wish they would make it like in CSS for all engines.

  • It's a great tutorial, but whenever I release the Make Key button my game crashes. Do you happen to know why?

  • you have multicore in options enabled.

  • Thanks, something I didn't think about changing/disabling.

  • Wow thanks a bunch for this tutorial, at first I was really confused but after 2 hours I got it lol. One question though, is it possible to change the speed of the smooth at certain points? or would I just do that in editing when i make my movie?

    Thanks!

  • You could do it while editing or somehow use the speed control on the demo ui :).

  • I'm fairly new to smoothing but whenever I make a video of me pwning, my character never appears in the video although the other characters do.

What is the problem and how can I fix it?

  • You cant see your character , that's how it is , problem solved.

  • so do you mean that regardless, the demo player will not allow you to see you playing at all in 3rd person? wow, valve really needs to develop this software better

  • You can only use -> thirdperson mode in console , but then u can't smooth.

  • Say if you get a solution on this, I got the same problem!

  • You are always behind the camera, so you can*t see yourself. Use "sv_cheats 1" + "thirdperson" to look at your character

  • Thanks a bunch took me a while (had to do it in window mode so i could check back at your video) you explained everything and i hope this makes me a better tf2 machinima maker

  • I think you can see yourself by setting cheats to 1 and typing thirdperson, but I didn't try it yet with smoothed demo's

  • If you taunt it resets.

  • Where do I acces the videos?

  • in your steamapps/(your username)/team fortress 2/tf2/ folder

  • is there a way to go spectator when playbacking a demo?

  • pharadox I have a question: if in a server I register myself with the demo and then try to make a smooth, there's a way to delete sounds when I shot (for example) or should I go spectator?

  • not sure what you're wanting to do , but i dont know any command of how to remove sound effects.

  • finally I did it!

  • Comment removed

  • I made a Smoothing video, came out great, one problem though... When I play it back, it shows a bunch of little white numbers all over the place, is there anyway to rid my screen of those so that I can record... If so, how?

  • if i have a file and i dont wanna edit it (i just want me in first person) how do i convert it or save?without filming it with fraps?

  • THAT WAS AWESOME, Thank you i cant understand it all yet but one day when im older maby i can do good with source recorder editing

  • i've done every thing, but the but to click "smooth..." doesn't pop up at the beginning of the demo.
