Great voice! But the stabbing is ridiculous, it flies in the face of everything in the libretto. She kills herself with the same flowers she used to heal people with. She thanks the flowers for now serving as poison, a release from her pain. Her name "Angelica" also refers to a poisonous plant. It also more believable that she drinks the poison and then realizes she has killed herself. Stupid director.

I love it when people remark on a role they've probably never played. High C does not make this character. In fact, when you're under duress it's the acting that makes this character. I know. I was sick when I sang this role. It feels like you've been singing for 3 hours and it's only been 40 minutes for Angelica.
Amazing voice, and I think the set is interesting too - but am a little annoyed that the stage director went against the libretto and had her stab herself rather than poison herself - it makes it much more intense when you see the gardener of the convent secretly growing poison just in case.... not to mention the stab wound wasn't life-threatening.
this is the right voice for suor. a dramatic (maybe even light dramatic) soprano. lyrics and lirico spintos just don't cut it, because you need to shoot that high c out like your like depends on it. you really feel that she is pleading to be reunited with her child. you feel her mad desperation! AHHHHH, this is wonderful. her technique is very interesting, yet well applied.
Personally I prefer a lyric soprano who is able to nail that high C. If the voice is dramatic she can sound heavy, almost less inocent. especially when it comes to the Princess scene, I've seen performances where Angelica ended up sounding darker than her aunt.
i said a good dramatic, not a heavy dramatic that can't handle her own voice. if the angelca is darker than her aunt, then that's messed up and bad casting. of COURSE i didn't mean that. jeez.
The music speaks for itself, and this is a good performance by Gauci. Kupfer's production works well in some scenes (confrontation with Zia Principessa; however, he has taken liberties here which, in my view, are detrimental. Angelica's bloody ending is contrary to Puccini's intention (not to mention the text). She poisons herself with herbs, her specialty. There is not a hint of the vision (Virgin and child), and the ending falls flat dramatically speaking.
singing and acting are great, but the director's head should be examined. Angelica took poison. And where is the little boy?

¿desde cuando Suor Angelica se corta las venas?

E' l'ora di finirla di dare in mano l'opera a persone che la odiano e ne fanno una robaccia come questa! Povera Miriam Gauci!

I had never heard this soprano before. She is really very good. But... the regie in my opinion rather weak... I would daresay extremely simplified...
