How to Set Up a Home Theater System : Choosing Rear Speakers for a Home Theater

hi someone help.how close can i sit up to the screen so that i can take in the whole movie image and enjoy it without my eyes darting all over the place.

im not concerned about pixels or lines i just want to know what is the best viewing distance for the human eyes in terms of width ratio

my room is,

from the couch to the wall screen is 4.4 metres wile the width of the viewing wall is 4.9metres.

so perhaps what i should ask is how big can my screen be if i sit 4.4 metres back ???????

he forgot to mention the most important thing. that ALL speakers in a surround system has the same sound character!!! you dont want your rear speakers sounding like some plastic garbage compared to your nice dali heliciol front speakers when mel gibson suddenly stands behind you. its gonna sound like mel transformed into hitler

Speakers should all be matched (same sonic signature,or lack of),ideal setup uses identical (close) speakers all around.With matched sensitivity and output capabilities. Using smallish Dollar Store rears like this "Expert" uses belongs in a laughable Dollar Store system.

I use Dynaudio Contour all around in one system and B&W Nautilus in another,all timbre matched. No mix and match Crap O Rama BS.

quality and also with any home theater you Must insulate that room more then any other part of the house to prevent sound from escaping and keep the sound from echoing and keep it crisp.

@theflyingdiablo You are correct about Klipsch being nice speakers. However having all floor standing speakers is the best way to go if you have the room for them. Your center speaker is known to be the most important speaker.

All of the dialogue comes from there so it should be as big as it can be. A lot of newer Amplifiers/Receivers have a setting that allows you to set the speakers to full range and still use a subwoofer. Then again every room is different, so every set up will be as well.

@theflyingdiablo I also disagree with placing a subwoofer in the "rear" of the room. In my experience, the best way to position a sub is by using the method practiced by Dolby Labs. Place the sub in your "sweet spot" or preferred listening seat, then start the test tone for the subwoofer. While the test tone is on, walk around the room and listen for the best sound. You shouldn't hear any "flubbering", overpowering tones, or unwanted "noise" that shouldn't be there.

you want a real home theater get a klipsh set up and no you dont want floor standing rear speakers you want them high the rear speakers are used for choppers or gunfire it should go in this order front speakers= floor standing

center ch a mid range speaker

side or secondary speakers=outer wall mount rear in wall mount and

sub in the rear this will give you great

i have a sony str dg820 hd 7.1 amp

 12 x16 bedroom my monitor audio fronts and rear speakers and sony 700w sub..my amp has certan presets that maxamises the all the sound and lowers or ups..certain speaker volumes

I have a 7.2 setup with floorstanding speakers all around in my 12' x 14' bedroom with a 106" screen and projector. You are sorely misguided my friend. My Onkyo 805's auto-calibration helps create a flat equalization from my system and optimizes it according to my room's obstructions and sound characteristics. I'm sorry, but not only was this terribly wrong, but it was also very confusing and puzzling.

Wtf? A real big home theathre should have a floorstanding speaker as rear, the one you're having on the table is a small speaker, the one you have on the stands are even smaller speakers.
