  • i have one of these its a bitch to start

  • i give 100.00 for any time

  • what is the gas mixter on a saw like this 1

  • @hawkshawsr 16 : 1

  • if you look under the throttle handle you will see a little round button. Before you try to start the saw push this button in. This is a compression release that lowers the compression for easier starting. Without using the compression release it will cause the kickback you are experiencing. I have the same saw myself and once you get it to run it is an excellent saw. I would definitely have the carb rebuilt and that should solve a lot of you problems.

  • @jrstrines Ahh, see I thought that was maybe a primer or oiler button, had no idea it would be compression release, as its a 2 stroke. Yeah, I have realized it needs some work since I made this video, thanks much.

  • Alright one thing u need to check is if its the race version... check the rings by removing the muffler and see if there are either 2 thin rings or 2 fat rings... then get at me

  • That saw don't look like its been used that much. Should be easy to fix it up. Im fixing up a Homelite C7 right now.

  • That's a cool old saw. I have a newer model Homelite Pro 46 cc with a 20" inch bar. It gets the job done.

  • i have one too, mine is a 1971 and it cranks the 2nd pull. it has a 16 inch bar.

if you need help just holler.........robert

  • Try adjusting the low setting . After it idles for a bit, adjust your idle speed so it will run smoothly.

I have a Homelite Super XL and it took some time to get it adjusted.

  • Do youwant to sell it?

  • @4inches4u No, I plan on fixing it up good and just keeping it, I got it free and its pretty rare so its mine forever, even though I have 2 other newer chainsaws that work fine, I don't really need them much anymore, yet I'm keeping them for when I find a place in the country I will be prepared.

  • @76hotrodF250 don't call it names they don't like that!

  • try starting it in the air

  • Also the breaker gap setting is 0.015. The engine puts out 65cc, which is more then most of the home-owner and mid-range STIHLs like the MS260 and MS290.

  • Great saws that'll last a lifetime if you take care of it. If its kicking back on you, check your breaker point gap. To big or to small of a gap will affect when the plug fires. Also soak the carb in a can of carb cleaner. Won't hurt to check the fuel filter either. It'll either be the cylinder filter at at the end of the fuel line or it'll be a felt linning in the tank. Great saw, don't give it away.

  • you'll need a extra recoil to get that thing started!

  • Hilarious Video!

  • maybe it's because it's a stupid piece of junk. xD 2:00

  • Guy why try to break the starter rope or the spring, get a spray bottle. Spray gas in the carb , if it don't stay running you have a drity gas filter or dieafram in carb is bad. Fix the kicking, take rewind off, take flyweel off, theres a timing plate, reset the it back a little, then reset ponits, 20 thou., when timing is set to fast it will kick like a mule. I ran homelite from 1957 on never seen a 400.

  • I'd pull the muffler and take a look at the piston. If its clean (no scoring) your sitting pretty. Your saw is basically a spin off of a Homelite Super XL with a bigger engine. About 65cc on the 400 about 58cc in the more common Super XL. It is a fairly rare saw and pretty desirable. To fix the carb problem just get a kit. Try googling cm small engines, they should have the right kit. Just know which carb u have. Should be walbro sdc.

  • Cool, I have pulled the muffler before this vid was done, and the piston was perfect. 65cc....jezzz, overkill much! HAha, thats cool, my modern Homelite has 33cc, I knew this thing was a beast for some reason! Rare hun?? Damn glad I kept it instead of sold it, I knew it was a keeper! Yeah, since this vid I have learned abit more about these carbs, I will get it fixed up and post another vid soon, and thanks for the info!!!!!

  • its a carb problem split and soak it in petrol a night and clean it up ,will help you.

  • i like the old chain saws!

  • nice saww man. i am about to go pick the same one up for 30 bucks. maybe you should put a new carb kit in it and it would help it start alittle easier. my chainsaw did the same damn thing, i change the recoil spring and gaskets in the carb. and she started right up. You should deff put another vid up of this beast.

  • Oh I am, in due time. She is definatly a BEAST!!!

  • Ha, really fun to watch.. I just waited for you to go berserk and throw it to H....

  • Haha, yeah if it wasnt so cool looking and a classic I would have pitched it as far as possible into a pond or something. This stupid thing I got it to run afterwards, I guess its a shy saw, hahahaha!!

  • Ha.. a shy saw, stagefright.. i have a Homelite super XL automatic, funny old thing.. but mine starts up real easy thow..

    :-)

  • i know something about homelites, they are worthless pieces of shit that kick back.

mine kicks back too but breaks the cord every time so i finally said fuck it.

those are definitely caterpillar boots! :-)

  • I like that type of chain saw, those old ones are great!
