  • Didn't work at first so I restarted my phone then presto!! It works! I used a free app called Super Manager to move the files around. Thank you

  • this doesnt work for me -________________-

  • Thanks, It worked perfectly.

  • @magicboy10aa oh i thought u were talkin bout the alternate way to install a free app which was through the computer and honestly way too much trouble

  • hi i have att prepaid sim card and i got this phone used. i want to download apps but his gmail is in the android market. if i restore my captivate will i be able to use the phone? or do i have to put my email with data plan before i use it. like the g1?

  • what if you have tmoblie and not at&t

  • brilliant video. although one major thing, REBOOT THE PHONE, then it'll work and you won't get that annoying pop up. other then that, absolutely wonderful video. great work man.

  • I used this method and unfortunately I am still being blocked from 3rd party apps. I have verified that the parameters are correct three times and have rebooted...no luck. Is this method no longer working?

  • can this freeze your phone? my phone when i turn it on is completely black.

  • does this work with the htc aria???

  • Your Video was very helpful! We just need to add another step..which is to restart the phone! Once done..it works fine...tried it on Captivate with ECLAIR.UCJH7 rooted.

  • never mind.. found it.. just need to enable root permission hahah my bad!! for people having a problem with wifi on samsung captivate, rooted 2.1, even if you deleted some bloatware.. i just want to let you know guys that it's ok to factory reset it.. but backup your files.. cos you're gonna loose ALL market apps and non market apps.. good thing is you're phone is still rooted even doing factory reset.. :D

  • can someone give me a copy of dbdata file for samsung captivate? mine is gone..

  • need help asap.. phone: samsung captivate 2.1 rooted , i remove some at&t bloatwares, i factory reset it and right now it's still working and still rooted but the market and nonmarket apps are gone.. of course.. but atleast it's still working like new.. the problem is.. now i need to do this process again but can't find dbdata.. it's missing.. what should i do? i'm ussing super manager same app i use to do this thing.. but now can't find the dbdata but the phone is working properly no errors..

  • Should people invest in Refurbisbed phones?

  • i got it to work you forgot to say reboot the phone

  • @ryankite0 lol samething with me THANKS DAILYAPPER

  • i did exactly everything u said and it says for security reasons bla bla and i even viewed the settings from the phone and the value is still at one wtf

  • hey.. i navigated to dbdata... and it says "folder is empty" any ideas?

  • @dailyapper i did everythng you said, but when i go to install an app (tetris.apk) the security thing still come yp please help me

  • hey u can use astro it is the same and free

  • @magicboy10aa actually u cant because at&t blocks third party apps on their android phones so u have to take some extra steps which you need root explorer, there might be alternative free ways which i might not know of but i know that Astro cant access the dbdata files :)

  • @2xRProductionsPS3 Yea i fugured that out lol but what u can do is download root explorer.apk then under tools in the Comand line type adb install rootmanager.apk and it does it! for free

  • Comment removed

  • @magicboy10aa i checked out your way,its the standard way but frankly its way to long to repeat the process with evry single app u want, well at least too long for me cuz im busy, id rather just spend the $3

  • @2xRProductionsPS3

What i mean is you do that to bootleg the app so u do not have 2 pay for it(the one in the vid) then u do it 4 free!

  • is there a way to get 3rd party apps without having to buy root manager, like a completely free way?

  • Great, I did this and had my phone rooted and did this exactly step by step and now my phone wont boot, so now i am fucked, please help me

  • Hey Kyle, Love your Captivate how-to's. Easy to follow and the ones I've tried work fine. How about a link for the application rolodex view you showed in this video?

    Jack

  • What theme is that

  • @xboxmods555 did u get the name of the theme by the way

  • @jan3019 Did you restart your phone afterwards? I have a really new Captivate, lesson than a week old. I followed the steps and it worked great for me. USB debug does NOT have to be on BTW

  • @liush12 oh so i need to restart.. ok ima try it again.. thank you much!

  • @liush12 omg!! it's working now!! thanks people!! @Dailyapper thanks for sharing this vid!

  • it didn't work to my captivate.. =/ ima do it again..

  • @jan3019 Hope it works for you after you restart your phone. BTW, I used a FREE app instead of the Root Explorer. It's called Super Task Manager, search it in the Market. You still need Busybox before you use it though.

  • @liush12 yep i already have those apps haha thank you so much!!

  • Astro works great i think

  • easier way to get apps: go to 4shared, type in applanet.apk it looks exactly like the marketplace but everything is free,

  • you wouldnt need to copy the file again n the computer would you? i mean you still have the same file in the other folder cant u just copy it again?

  • Worked great although you don't need to purchase the root explorer app. I used a free app called Super Manager.

  • i think i fucking love you...

  • this doesnt work....i did EXACTLY what you did...

  • @straightupfruit same here..it didn't work.. but i'm sure this thing works for the other samsung captivate.. maybe the network did something to the newest samsung captivate.. maybe the security level of our phone is higher.. i just got mine last couple of week.. but i'm not sure just maybe hehe

  • I recomend anyone who wants to do this...Dont! Your phone will be so laggy, just saying

  • did it all and still told me it cant install 3rd party apps, doublechecked db file in settings and it has a 1 not a 0 and still it wont do it, am i missing something?

  • You do not need to pay for root explorer, it can be done with the free terminal emulator, first type su ...then... cat /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/settings.db > /sdcard/settings.db ... make your SQLite changes with a computer, then copy the file back with cat /sdcard/settings.db > /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/settings.db (I ran rm /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/settings.db first, not sure if I needed to).

  • How Do yu change your default theme ? that looks cool dude

  • could you use the same technique/application to be able to move/back files from desire to the SD memory card??

  • 2 dollars and 50 pounds?

  • do you have fucking turrets or something holy shit it sounds like your sucking a dick ugh ugh ugh ugh damn dude

  • Good vid but it's easy to just root it yourself. Plus it's free.

  • hey man i really like the rheme that you are using please let me know how you got it exactly

  • Sorry Mac guy anything PC drives me nuts so iphone is just ready to go. OMG YA GOTTA BE A TECHY NERD to be droider. I just wanna use my device not re-engineer it.

  • @upperwestside1 yea but you cant install 3rd party apps on the iphone unless you have it jailbroken...

  • Worked great thanks!

  • Can anyone confirm whether Method #2 works with Froyo 2.2 or not?

    Thanks.

  • Thx a lot!

just one more step, then it works for me, restart the cellphone!

  • Thx a lot!

just one more step, then it works for me, restart the cellphone!

  • i have my captivate updateed to froyo 2.2 i did excatly what you said but it wont work will you please help me

  • Please put where you got your menu theme. I want that scroll, looks baddass.

  • hey, if u don't want to root your phone you can just install the "magic wonder machine" or whatever, you'll find it if you do a search. you get this pretty dodgy looking file to your computer that does not need to be installed, but i haven't gotten any viruses. and it definitely works. i've used it for 2 apps. if i've understood it correctly it uses a developer mode from the developing kit, except you don't need the whole thing, just this little bit.

  • how did you get the scrolling applications page

  • will this work if i rooted my device from a other persons video
