Soon after, the employees were asked at a meeting how they felt about the employer meeting a quota for hiring visible minorities. The main problem is the shortage of open positions. Here are some solutions: Cut down over time, which is often forced on workers who would prefer regular full time hours. Further, by enforcing existing laws, any undocumented work, which cheats the IRS and often exploits the workers could be eliminated. With these two simple steps in place, plenty of 40 hour jobs would be created to bring unemployment back to an acceptable range below 4%.

The reality is, there is really a shortage because most are Americans wanted to move to a higher paying career opportunities. The biggest users of H1B are the Indian body shops for the purpose of domestic outsourcing not "rare workers" doing cutting edge R&D. 85-95% H1Bs earn less than $50K/year and are doing routine work that most Americans could be re-trainded to do. H1Bs is a cheap labor program being pimped as one that brings in the best and brightest which by wages is not true.

In my own profession people have been let go and replaced by people who make half their salary and who also have half their knowledge level. We are one of the few countries that do this because most countries realize that their labor force IS their economy. Sorry, getting rid of an American worker does not create two more jobs, maybe for two people from another nation but not for Americans.
