I did my brief military service with this rifle in Sweden, or as its correctly called in Sweden: The "AK5". I'm no super experienced military soldier but as far as I'm concerned, the "AK5" was a great weapon for beginners (such as me at the time). It's light, low recoil and easy to clean/manage.

In Sweden we use a "Swedenized" version of the FN FNC.

My personal experience is that its an easy weapon to manage. Taking it apart and cleaning it is a breeze! Very few parts. Its been in the Swedish army since mid 80's and has been heavily modified every since.

It looks though, speaking of which, that at the end of this decade the weapon will be replaced. Not sure by which..Maybe the H&K 416 like our Norweigan cousins recently adopted.

The FNC had an incredibly long gestation period for the easiest concept in assault rifles: Shrink the FAL down and chamber it for .223. The Belgians tried it first in the late 1960s as the CAL but it was less reliable than the M16A1 (which really says something!) and didn't sell. Its descendant, the FNC was first introduced in the mid-80s. The launch of the FNC damaged its rep as it was repeatedly yanked from Arms trails and shows due to malfunctions. It is now standard in several armies.

If you even think this is a Galil or looks like it, please go find a FNC and shoot yourself in the face with it.

1: They look nothing alike other than they are a rifle and have a similar stock.

2: They are not even made in the same country nor are they're manufacturers countries located on the same continent.

3: The Galil is derived from a Finish AK47 derivative. The FNC is a unique assault rifle.
