ASSERT sovereignty, i.e. that your state is a sovereign nation under international law, and that the USA is an illegal empire in hostile occupation of it.
Until you do this, you're tacitly validating of its national authority by failing to assert your own.

Maddow misleads viewers when she said, "beyond the powers of the Federal government" This makes NO sense in the context, because if she said it correctly, she would have shot herself in the foot. Correctly stated: "Beyond the powers of the Constitution", which we find the Feds involved in almost constantly. She also ridicules Calhoun's appearance. Rachel Maddow engages in propaganda when she claims Calhoun was "rabidly pro-slavery." What he WAS was rabidly PRO-STATES RIGHTS which - at the time - included Slavery. He was more concerned with allowing the decision of slavery to be retained by THE STATES instead of the 'Federal Government.'
