  • "fission fission, walk the duck, cookie-- add to Carie add to fission to get a cookie!"

  • This super fast arithmetical calculation, while it's all very good for show,

and certainly employs very intelligent arithmetic groupings in such a way to maximize the entertainer's ability to remember the numbers,

and even though most anyone with practice can achieve it, is entirely overkill for practical purposes, both inside and outside of math, and it is NOT representative of what mathematicians mainly do: prove theorems.

  • I have to admit I had to stop and think for a moment. But then again, I'm not that familiar with the american money system. You don't say values in terms of dollars, for instance, 'Seven dollars, fifty'?

  • @SirArghPirate

= I have to admit I had to stop and think for a moment. =

Same here, too. And I have a math PhD. Nevertheless, she SHOULD have gotten it.

    SHE is American (I assume).

If they asked me to do the conversion in terms of British pense, quid, and pound, I would fail,

because I don't know how many quid are in a British pound, and it's funny all these years on the internet I never bothered to take 2 seconds to look the answer up on wikipedia (which I will do now).

  • @mphello Same here :)

  • Yup... this says it all America... :(

  • Golly. How does she remember to breath?

  • I assume she was just confused in the situation. When faced with problems that sound complicated, people give up before even attempting it, so it doesn't matter how hard the question really is.

Btw: This doesn't have much to do with math in my opinion. Math is for me finding a way to calculate the length of a railroad track, not doing the actual calculation.

  • What the hell do cookies have to do with math

  • @YOUPSYCHO thats not the fail the answer is... 57 times 57 equals 3billion??

  • @heroiclegendxxx Yeah, I thought those were deicimals at first too, but they must be commas. Its 57,683^2=3 billion, etc.

  • dumb ass ho

  • Funny how she can't understand such basic math, but she's very informed about stem cell research.

  • So what, there are prodigies out there. Besides, it still took him like a minute to solve it, who cares about all the crazy utterings. Anyways, humans are pretty good at analog math. When someone throws a ball at you do calculate its trajectory like this? Or do you just reach out your hand and catch it? My point exactly.

  • LOLamericaLOL america is fucking fail

  • The bow tie. It is the source of his powers.

  • wow he can speed solve. Bet he can't build a bionically engineered robot

  • This kind of stupidity and furthermore the attitude of : "I don't even need to try and I also don't really need to be ashamed of my stupidity" really ruins my mood. There are too many people like that out there ... and they vote.

  • You should know how to do basic math without a calculator because you don't always have a calculator when you need one!

Fair enough for complicated maths, dividing large numbers into each other's pretty hard - even with a pen and paper.

No excuse for this trivial, 6-year old shit though!

  • Because if you ever go somewhere where you don't have a calculator, there's a camera on you, you can win a shitload of money by getting an easy math question right or lose all ur credibility towards the mainstream audience if you fail, you will HATE yourself if you mumble like this woman... There's no reason to be ashamed of being slow at maths or having to take your time, but she didn't even try to think it over. Unless ofc she cannot make an educated guess on the meaning of the word quarter...

  • Break it down like this: 150 X 5= 750 (Ignore decimals for the sake of simplification )

Now it's just a matter of which one equals 750, is it?

    A) 30 X 25

    B) 50 X 10

    C) 70 X 5

    D) 90X 1

Well the answer in this instance is A. Just pay attention to the wording lady. The Euro is useless info in this question you just need to know that the values are Quarters (25) Dimes (10) Nickles (5) Pennies (1) Other than that Regis pretty much gave you all the tools you need to work with.

  • ok the one thing you HAVE to know is basic math - with or without a calculator. You don't have to know logs or how to graph an equation or how to find the integral of something with a calculator, because it's very unlikely you'd have to do any of those things in a situation where there are no calculators, but since people usually don't just carry calculators with them arithmetic is something everyone should know - always. This video makes me sad. Is she an elementary school dropout?

  • Arthur Benjamin, I've seen this video before and this gentleman if fucking crazy good at mathematics.

  • Sounds like he's auctioning something.

  • Don't worry Patricia, I'll teach you numbers. Just use your credit card to give me a line and some cirles so it looks like this, 1000000000. I promise it's not much.

  • That's probably why she doesn't know how to do this stuff in her head, because she's hooked on the calculator. I think a calculator should only be used when you're at a loss as to why you got your answer wrong.

I think it depends on who raises you and how you grow up. It's lack of ethics, and parents not imbuing them in their kids that does it.

  • Even in Sales you have to know at least basic math. And if I'm not mistaken, the guy they just showed was American, too..... Every country has their bright folks and their dull folks.

  • Wow....Regis pretty much gave her the answer. I wonder how far she got in school...Seriously, If she wasn't an actor what the fuck would she be doing?

  • and that is question for 25.000 $ ?

That is question for maybe 1000 $, or 500 $...

    you have there poor education....

  • as awesome as being able to multiply like that is, i dont see any value in it.

  • XD!

yes thats true, painfully, painfully true XD

  • oh my god i want to headbutt this fucking broad in the face.

  • wait so what is the point behind this video... people who are good at math are better at math than people who aren't?

  • I think the point is that Patricia Heaton is a a religious blowhard, so this was to knock her down a peg by putting her lack of basic math on display.

  • Oh ok, I didn't know who Patricia Heaton was, so in that case the real point of this video is to personally bash her for her weakness, amplifying it by putting her up against someone who happens to have that strength and in extention bash anyone who may share her religouse views even though mathmatics are a truth independent of both religion and scientific theory.

  • you dont even need to do the math! the answer is so obviously not anything else, it would take seconds for somebody to look at the options, think logically, and answer A

  • stupid americans...It is not your fault you are not educated... - it's your govermant's fault.

    Zeizgeist.

  • Thats a generalization. Obviously not every American is stupid just like not every other countrys' citizens are smart. And thats your fail for the day.

  • p.s. you spelled government wrong. Second fail.

  • lapsus calami.... i know not every american is stupid... but majority is.

  • I'm rolling my eyes. You could say the majority of every country is stupid. You have no basis for saying a comment like that.

  • If you are going to insult Americans, at least learn how to spell.

Us Amricans are smarter than you because we can all see how Zeigeist is a very poorly researched movie. Zeitgeist is bullshit.

  • you r laughing stock of the world

  • ok your being a stereotype

yes i will acknowledge that most americans are dumb, but not all of them

  • it's not a science fail

it's like telling a swimmer to poll vault and calling it an athletics fail

The mathematician has a lot of experience with math and how to do something like that quickly.

    The actor doesn't.

Make the man do acting and call it a fail.

Sure it's not that hard of a question HOWEVER she is right.

She had been so not use to math that she didn't even dare to think about the question but make excuses instead. Which goes to show you that she dislikes it in the first place.

  • yes but you should atleast be able to do that simple enough of math...

thats first or second grade math and she couldnt solve it...

  • Sorry. If she had been asked a complicated question (like the second one) I'd agree with you. but come on, we're talking simple arithmetic:

    $1.50 = 6 quarters

    6 (quarters) X 5 (euros) = 30 (quarters).

They even made it easy by putting that answer first.

  • Thanks for the video, keep fightin' the good fight!
