This nasty stuff is available from Hobby shops and aircraft supply outlets in larger amounts. It is used to shrink covering fabric and tissue paper. It's very smelly and is the biggest cause of divorce for modellers; right up there with diesel fuel.
@MissileMist It flew amazingly well with the pee wee, very stable and didn't require much power to remain airborne. Usually ran the 020 at a rich fuel setting.
Say, how practical is it for me to convert a completed free flight model from the 400 series, specifically the P-40 with the underbelly construction, into RC with a full set of control surfaces(aileron, elevator +rudders)?
@calvinliang1, I am not sure if I would say that it would be practical, but this 109 was built as a free flight and I added elevators and strip ailerons after the fact. The covering had to be rolled back and extra spar added to have elevators and figure 8 thread hinges. The same treatment could be employed to add a rudder.
I was wondering i have the guillow Series 500 A6MN-2 Rufe and I wanted to know if i could convert it, right now I haven't built it, so if I can, how much would it cost and where could I get a engine online?
@igenther99 This is the motor that I used. available on the internet for less than 18 dollars free shipping. 10g 2900KV Brushless mini micro Motor for RC Indoor fly
@igenther99 The motor is very small; about as big as a thumb in diameter, but it has more than enough power to fly a 24-30 inch built up model. you can get more information on these little motors on my blog page.
I gotta give you credit. I never had the nerve to attempt building a Guillow's kit. I always figured that from the looks of the type of construction, regardless of how much effort and skill went into building, the finished product would invariably look like a bad hair day. LOL
speed controllers as i cant seem to make up my mind and what would work well together. if any one has made something similar or could recommend anything i would be grateful. thanks, Liam
5/5 mate, im building this at the moment, its a fun build, im still kinda new to rc flying though, do you have any info on what electrics to put in it? im still a bit clueless,
Thanks for your comments. This model will fly great but weight is a problem. I used a micro GWS receiver and 50 gram servos that I got on EBay , also a 45 watt outrunner brushless motor meant for indoor RC, which has more than enough power. I installed a 800 milliamp E-Flight 2 cell Lipo battery which is far too heavy.... probably a 200 - 300 ma would do just fine. Good luck with your project.

I'll trade you a sub for an answer. What is clear dope and where do I buy it? I'm trying to build an authentic scale bf-109 kit.

@MissileMist She flew very well: better than as an RC model because of weight of radio gear.

I bet a stick and tissue model would fly very nicely with full RC
