  • i love this guys . so many memories

  • All I think of is Geno from Super Mario RPG

  • Love this song but what the hell is a Dexy and why is it only running at midnight?

  • we ard the mods

  • And the guy at the table drinking tea at the window looks like Prince William. Lol!

  • Still love this one! :)

  • Excellent.

  • love this tune

  • superb still tingles the old spine 30+ yrs on, twas the horn section that pulled me in. as much as 'come on eileen' was commercially popular I hated it( and still do). plus you could never dance to it in the clubs, I'm sure Kevin Rowland did that on purpose...

  • Iconic song for me anyway love it

  • Abso-fucking brilliant!!

  • BRILLIANT.

  • This man was my father's fried egg, he's my eyes

  • @StrikerDyker What you talking about in riddles?

  • I just think of Gene Hunt from Ashes to Ashes when I hear this...

  • Still one of the greatest songs ever made

  • @Tomsky0345 i love it its a great song

  • Come on Eileen + Geno = Underrated band.

  • <3 THIS SONG!

  • Academic inspiration.. you gave me none... . . . No I'm not being flash, it's what I'm built to do ;)

    Great lyrics

  • dexamphetamine

  • the singer is mr bean

  • @Toerazor100 i was thinkin that

  • brilliant!

  • timeless brilliance

  • Just Brilliant. This and Come on Eileen are two classics. My real favourites. I never tire of listening to them. Kevin Rowland, you are greater than you think.

  • still walk these streets in this video ...train barriers still there at new street and remember that cafe well

  • Reminds me of happy days as a teenager, its even good to see the old-fashioned parking meters, how sad am I?!

  • Can someone please lower kevin's mic! He looks like he's struggling a bit! great song :D

  • @kimj0123 do you think Liam watched this vid as a boy

  • @bazrig I'm quite sure he did

  • Fantastic band.

  • Great song.

  • LOADED!

  • my dogs called geno

  • Benny hats, ox blood brogues, white socks and donkey jackets, ahh, I remember it well!

  • *Love*

  • Lol string snap @0:16 :)

  • 1st saw dexys live at the mayfair sweet newcastle june 25th 1980 a month or so after geno was a hit. I was dressed in my 2 tone suit. had a brilliant night. my marra had bought the single dance stance the jan of 1980 and i new they were something special.

  • Geno Washington fue el artista de Soul más grande de la historia, aparte de James Brown. Kevin Rowland,1980

  • No bad

  • so glad i was a kid when this was out, primary school disco would never have been the same else

  • Frig me! Glass teacups! That takes me back!

  • brrrrrr!

  • It's "DEXYS", not "DEXY'S" with an apostrophe. Plural, not possessive. Even stupid Vevo gets it wrong.

  • @devslad PURE QUALITY

  • Whatever happened to Kevin Rowland who said he was better then the Beatles? Funny old life!!

  • funny when my mum used to play these tunes i was like wtf, now its my kids sayin mum wtf lol

  • You were Michael the lover, the fighter than won.

  • awesome is the only word that can summerise this song. and if i could spell summerise it would be even better!

  • A brilliant song and a great video performance.I remember buying the single for my older brother when I went on a school day-trip to The Isle Of Man in 1980.It's B side was a song called 'Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache' and it was superb as well !

  • Love Dexies and have looked up Kevin's shite all over the web but I can't understand what went wrong with his musical endeavors. It's like he was given a golden junk but forgot how to get hardons. For any fans look up Wild Waltz and some other gems...guy is a genius with a dope voice. Hope he can still put out a few late hits. God bless the Irish.

  • Why cant all music be this good

  • roy west

  • apart from Jackie Wilson Said, Geno is one of the awesome songs Kevin Rowland and co ever performed....Vila La Dexi's

  • @LaMadhatter

    Respect!

  • Robbie Keane Scoring for celtic then this tune while hes doing his cartwheel!<3

  • one of the best songs of the 80's.Can you see yourself listening to the crap today in 30 years time ???

  • just a tiny bit out of tune brass section strokes my soul puts me right back in 1980

  • Age is only a number, it doesn't make a bit of fucking difference what age you are. Just sit back and enjoy it, pffft.

  • geno kicks ass im 11 and i still listen to it

  • geno is brill and im 11 and i still listen to it so fuck you

  • @Izack79 you're a hardcore little shit aren't you?

  • GENE HUNT!

God, music was so much better in the 60s through to the 80s... then it was a slippery slope. I would have loved to have seen a performance, and lived in a time much happier for people!

  • thumbs up if the ashes to ashes album brought you here

  • Great song.

  • like that

  • billiant

  • so wish i was there

  • he has an AMAZING voice

  • birmingham

  • you'r site so clear!!!!!! i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Epic guitar string break at 0:16.

  • @alexcollectscats they must have kept the joke running for the vid shoot. around 1:57 you can see a loose string off the top of his strat.

  • lol. this song is aweful, and you're just a bunch of stupid assholes who are trying to be different by listening to all of dexy's midnight runners instead of their one hit wonder

  • @poonwoofer Don't bother trying to project what you know you're doing onto other people. That's why YOU clicked the link. It's very transparent and makes you seem really insecure. Just saying.

  • @poonwoofer "Aweful"? You mean it's full of awe? Aren't yanks supposed to say "aweSOME"?

  • this easy my best song this is amazing up to all the crap now

  • One of the greatest unrecogonised songs of all time. Enjoy!

  • Pete Williams i saw a few years ago he did a solo gig at The Glee (brum) also saw him twice with The Bureau at The Soundbar (Brum) and he did a few shows for THE CANDY BOX (BURLESQUE SHOW) at The Glee (Brum)

  • @BCBurlesque When I was at Dudley College in late 90s doing Drama, Pete Williams helped out with all the music in our plays. He was a sound bloke. Laid back and not up himself. As for Geno....its a legend tune which last the length of time.

  • was so in love with pete wiliams good memories good times wonder where he is now?

  • where are the song writers like that today? Seems like the type of thing ya grandad would say, but WHAT HAPPENED? Great music. Thank goodness for Youtube!

  • Still don't think they know Geno...

  • Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is a brilliant album from start to finish. People should remember, only two of the original band members went on to make the album, Too Rye Ay, featuring Come on Eileen. Two VERY different albums in my opinion.

"Back in '68 in a sweaty club, before Jimmys machine and the rocksteady rub.."

  • @WestAucksNZ OOO-oooo-hhh Geeee-noo-ooo

  • Come on Eileen is a classic, but Geno kicks ASS. The best Dexys by far!

  • This song always reminds me of staying at Colomendy when I was a school kid - great memories.

Good to hear this song, here in America they only play "Come on Eileen", good song though:)

  • The band that met in caff's. fucking marvellous!

  • Us lot in our 40's always have fond memories of the 80's but, when you see vid like this it does make you remember how rough it was in the ealy 80's. top tune.-

Academic insiration, you gave me none. You were Micheal the lover

    the fighter that won

well now just look at me Im looking down on you

    well Im not being flash

Its what, Im built to do.

  • HAHA! From 0:10 to 0:23 is the song that is played when Ireland score a goal at home in Football!!!!!!!!

  • dexys, a fucking great british band. kev rowland a genius

  • dexys, a fucking great british band.

  • BRILLIANT ONE OF MY ALL TIME GREATS,LOVE THE SAX,,,THE WHOLE SONG IS JUST A WONDERFUL PIECE OF INSPIRED GENIUS,,,,,,,,,,,,,BY THE WHOLE BAND,,

  • Geno - In my memory at least, was Trevor Brooking, and he tore my beloved Man U to shreds a couple of times along with a guy called Devonshire.

He also stuffed Arsenal in the 80 cup final, unforgetable....great song too :-)

  • Was Geno Eileen's boyfriend?

  • I love this, but I really have no idea what the FUCK he's saying.

  • @spackhollogay Me too! I have realised that 31 years after it was released, I still have no idea what it's about! But I'll still feel all happy when it comes on!

  • great song

  • Total lack of 'logos'

  • good song my faverote :)

  • i rember having a donkey jacket back then d.ms and wooly hat thinking i was tough

  • I was born in 1984 and only recently discovered this song, maybe the best song ive ever heard.

  • this is music to strut to

  • AMAZING

  • I grew up in same street has kevin Archer when Geno was numer 1 and yes we wore donkey jackets and wooly hats ,magical times.

  • Great band!

I just read in Simon Reynolds' Rip It Up and Start Again that this band stopped taking Dexedrine and became completely anti-drug, taking to daily work-out routines instead.

  • @JSGuitar80 I heard Rowland takes a daily work out up the arse...

  • I saw him in concert a couple of years ago...bent as a five bob note now unless very much mistaken - sky blue suit, beret etc etc...fantastic concert tho, just very very diff image...

  • oh keaaaaaano

  • I loved how this song was used in my favorite show ever, Ashes to Ashes!!!!

  • love it

  • Is Rowlands still a tranny?

  • @philseayjet What because of that one vid of him in that short dress in the 90s?

  • This number has got it!

  • if their is one thing us Brits can do right, it's sing

  • K bueno es este grupo!

  • Uma banda antiga de qualidade!

  • Top quality tune from Dexys with the added attraction of and un-refurbished class 50 entering Birmingham New Street.

    Quality

  • hahaha

  • who wishes they could go back to these days, the music comming out then and before pissed all over the shite you here now.

  • @smithdvr to true !

  • @smithdvr …this tune is timeless. Will Alexander Burke, BoysZone, Tiny Temper (I know I spelt his name wrong), Lady Ga Ga (I must not speak ill of the mighty one!) or whoever still be played in 30 years time? I think the answer is no! I agree with you!

  • @smithdvr If you've got a time machine, save me a seat please...this takes me back to a time when popular music was challenging and original and had lyrics that wouldn't insult the intelligence of a two year old. Before MTV, rap and Simon Cowell buried the world in shit

  • @smithdvr i know i do.i was a teenager in the 1980's

  • @smithdvr If you find a way to get back there, let me know, I won't be far behind you!

  • @smithdvr couldnt agree more

  • Classic !!!!!!

  • great song but it destroyed fuck all!!

  • Prima muziek ! Ik heb deze groep rond 1980 live mogen aanschouwen in de Effenaar te Eindhoven. Schitterend nummer.

  • Prima muziek, rond 1980 nog voor een knaak live gezien in de Effenaar te Eindhoven.

  • My farher got this one, come on eileen and burn it down in 45. I don't now how many times i listened to them when i was young, but i still know this one by heart after like 10 years i didn't hear it !

DMR, definatly the best band of the 80's

  • What happened to the line up change between 1980 and Come On Eileen?

  • Just bought Searching for the Young Soul Rebels and I'm Gino and didn't know there was this song "Geno" on it...

    all the better. great album!

  • I can play the intro and outro on my harmonica!

  • This is the England I know and love. Not that sugarcoated crap you see in the movies. Rough sweethearts <3

I less than 3 everyone who likes this song.

  • good old brum does it again

  • great 1980 song, a lost classic for sure.

  • oh and also the film this is engalnd could have also been based on my early years (just like the rest of us off council estates).i hung around with my 17 year old skinhead cousin and his mates.only thing is they was`nt racist as fuck like that knob in the film.

  • i remember been 13 when this came out at local kids disco and this came on all us little mods went fucking mental.great memories

  • In my opinion, better song than Come on Eileen.....MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!!!!

  • @dot4design your right my friend! but your mum loves inhaling sperm!! and your dad in a 5 pound rent boy.... again sorry!

  • The brass in this is sweet. Young white Englishmen blasting like old Black Jamaican Masters - there's hope!

  • learnt the words to this song, and sing along whenever it,s on, kevin rowlands your a god.

  • massive talent ....one of the greatest british tracks ever

  • class tune

  • Never

    ever

    get

    sick

    of

    this

    song

  • Good music, but a bit narrow-shouldered, what's with that?

  • This song is like vintage wine - it just gets better and better with age.

  • the lead singer looks hot in this video

  • @lizzie5904 He looks like Mr Bean with a perm, but GREAT song :)

  • I had to look this up, y'know when all of a sudden you start humming the intro of a song...and this has some stunning fucking intro, what a song..what a band...the internet does have some uses after all.

  • You wanna know who had it all...?

  • Kevin Rowland, musical genius, and shares my birthday, 17th August, I feel humbled to share it with him!

  • god bless the 70s and 80s then music died rip music

  • @shuchr exactly

  • kevin rowland should have been knighted for his music

  • There's not many pop songs out there that use tempo changes as a signature feature and even less that are lauded for doing so. This is a great effect.. Love it. Go Kev!

  • Cool song!

  • still class...

  • que años aquellos en los que realmente se hacía música...

  • wow very ska-ish lol =D

  • keano keano!!!!!

  • Outstanding record. Reminds me of when I'd just turned 20 and was living in South Tyneside. Had fuck all but my clothes, records and mates, but I'd swap all the of the plasmas, blu-rays, and other trappings of today to go back there. Anyone else remember waking up hungover on Saturday morning and turning on Tiswas on the TV?. Great days! It didn't matter whether you liked metal, punk, ska, funk, disco or reggae, my generation got the best -- and I wouldn't swap that for the world!

  • I would say that just about sums it up.

    Excellent post.

  • @Spiderwebsider we were so lucky ! someone tried to push the sex pistols on me, i wasn't having none of that while i was still bohemian rhapsody. woke up next mornin,, my mam was way one step beyond fra me but the jam were toast and i want going underground at my funeral
