Haha. I made the switch from white to brown due to the diet, and I honestly prefer the brown rice for the taste. i still eat steamed white or fried rice when I eat chinese food. Om nom nom.
@marianasreality It can be beneficial, however you only really need 14 grams of fiber per 1000 calories consumed. If you have a well balanced diet it's not that hard!
So do you like have a schedule for answering comments? Becuase it seems out of all fitness channels, you are the the only one that responds, i mean have you seen twin muscle workout, they hardly answer anything
@TheShoxsta011 I try to answer back within 24 hours in most cases (some weekends are tough if I'm not around a computer). But I make these vids for you guys, it's the least I can do to respond!
@TheShoxsta011 That's a good point, it really puts white and brown rice on a level playing field which leaves taste as the only real determinant of which you should eat, which fits the main point of this video :)
So glad you made this vid bro. I get into arguments regularly about this topic and some just believe the bro science and refuse to believe that it really doesn't matter.
now this one really sheds light on how much of a fool you are. you are not an expert stop missinforming people!!!!!! white rice for someone who is fat and in the long run will cause diabetes if its used in your diet( diet meaning you eat this rugularly) this is complete stupidity for young people who know nothing to read. i am constantly answering questions from dumbasses who watch stupid videos like yours and have no clue on how to eat. white rice will make you fatter if your fat.
@djcire1 LOL Really man CAUSE diabetes? You are seriously clueless man. Perhaps if that obese person ate nothing at all but white rice all day every day for years, then I could maybe see it causing diabetes. Take this video in the context it is meant for. His main audience are people in fitness or interested in fitness. And that is how he explains the difference. Look at GI for long grain white and brown almost identical. Plus like he said GI numbers take nothing else into account.
@djcire1 It's easy man, post up some real studies showing that obese people that eat white rice instead of brown "will get diabetes." With all other factors being equal. If you have science backing your statement, this shouldn't be an issue. We are all here to learn so if you have something concrete, please share.
Sup Brandon, AL here, im a big fan of your videos, i wanted to ask you that although i have been fat burning for a year (before:6ft1 Age: 16 Weight: 215 lbs, After :6ft 3 Weight:176 lbs and age 17), i am completely lean everywhere except for my lower stomach which only has a little bit of fat left since i was fighting hard to get rid of it, HOW DO I GET RID OF THE LAST BIT OF FAT, because it seems to be much harder to get rid of fat now(Did'nt crash diet nor starve myself)?
@TheShoxsta011 Most people hold fat in their abdomen, it's always the last to go. As you get to a lower and lower bf% it becomes harder and harder to do. Truth of the matter is it's still about lowering your overall body fat percentage. It'll just take longer than it would be to drop bf% if you were extremely obese.
Love me some white rice. Especially when my slob friends order Chinese and don't even bother opening their rice containers because its "so bland". I take a plastic fork, a packet of soy saunce and come at those things like a Spider Monkey.
@Jeremysw2 you are an idiot. so your adding soy sauce which is full of sodium not to mention msg another form of sodium and also contains soy the most estrogenic food for a man to eat. so not only are you spiking your insulin with the white rice which has nearly no nutrients after it is bleached and boiled. then the store steams it and you add soy sauce to it. so your getting sodium spike and insulin spike . your better off eating the chinese food. and not dipping it in any thing. stupid

B rice vs W rice was actually studied for people with diabete and experts concluded that B rice was much healthier... I think it's funny how people take it for workout with broscience. One thing I saw from TV, is that the long living people over 90,100 years old in some asian countries actually eat B rice everyday. If you ask me how B-rice is better for health, esp if you have diabete, I can't make essay on this youtube comment with limited texts.

@CampbellFitness I know. But according to experts it wasn't just GI of B-rice that will help diabete, there was something else. You are proably thinking "bullshit" but I don't want to make essay here.
Really like the video, interesting article. I'm not sold on it though. Too many variables in those studies and I'm sure there will be a new study with new information next week. I will stick with what's tried and true.
@justangvano I'm not saying the method you use doesn't work. I'm saying it doesn't have to be that way. There are plenty of studies that support this, I just used this article as it conveniently put them all together. I'm not big on hammering home something as being scientific fact repeatedly, but the results on this (both based on the article and applied to my own diet) speak pretty clearly.
@CampbellFitness haha just ate me some 650g sweet potato, Chest, shoulder, tricepts, Back, rear delts session coming up later today :), are you still doing DC bro
Hi, I knew that I would find lots of comments on this video... LoL... I also was aware of the GI values on brown and white rice and knew that the calories were almost the same too, the way I like to think about this is, that I prefer complex above simple carbs cause I don't like to feel hungry after an hour I ate... it happend with most (if not all) simple carbs, at least to me. Both are fine, I like both, I just don't want to feel hungry right away... Peace!
what do you think of the book, "The 4 hour body" by Tim Ferriss? you should do a vid on recommended reading, some of your favorite books out there related to health/fitness.
@BadMonkeySyndrome I haven't heard of it or read it. Most of the stuff I read is research I find online. Only problem with books is that it's hard to update or find the latest information in them. But great suggestion!
@e1g3r In the long term, yes. However if you don't have a solid diet in place and aren't getting enough micro-nutrients from your diet, you might want to try to incorporate certain foods over others.
@CampbellFitness I think what is often forgotten when people ask a question like e1g3r asked regarding whether brown rice, white rice and table sugar have the same response within the body is that most people when eating rice consume it with a protein and probably some fats. When most people consume sugar they are consuming it with more simple carbohydrates and often bad fats in dessert.
@CampbellFitness I think you miss understood what I meant. In many cases when consuming sugar you are also consuming other forms of simple carbs as well as bad fats, i.e. most desserts or having a sweet flavored coffee from Starbucks. In this case you are not only consuming a simple carb, which in my opinion does effect fat gain, you would also be consuming other unnecessary calories. My point is that you might want to be more careful about the wording of your advice.
@justangvano I still disagree. Simple carbs do not make you fat. What leads to fat gain is consistently being in a caloric surplus. It's as simple as that. People can still enjoy the food they like, however they must be made aware of the consequences it can have on their diet (over indulging and putting yourself into a surplus instead of aiming for a deficit).
@CampbellFitness I agree your statement that consistently being in a caloric surplus will make a person fat. I have agreed with you on that point from the beginning; however, "It's as simple as that" is a shoot and a miss when it comes to the article you posted in the comments. The whole point of the article is "Like all things in science - especially the deep bubbly cauldron that is applied nutritional science - it ain't all that simple" (last paragraph).
@justangvano The simplistic view of gaining or losing weight is still dependent on calories. Obviously it gets more detailed when talking about micro-nutrients and specific goals. The point of the article however is geared towards judging carbs off of GI. If I'm not mistaken your main point was that differences in GI make noticeable differences in diet in the long run, which I still disagree on. Either way I think we're running in circles! So we'll just have to agree to disagree.
@CampbellFitness The trouble with getting all of your information from one article is that the opinion will change again in a few years if not a few months. New studies will be introduced and a new article will be written on how the tried and true method of using the G.I. I'm sure the article holds some validity but what has worked for so many people before you will also continue to work for people after you. Do you consume any kind of specific post-workout food?
@justangvano I addressed this in my other response, but I'll repeat it. I'm not saying the "old" method doesn't work. I'm saying it's not the only way to see results. As far as post workout goes, I train first thing in the morning. When I come home I have eggs, toast and peanut butter.
@CampbellFitness The other problem with your argument is that whether you consume a simple carb. with protein and fat or not the G.I. still goes up. The fact that these differences in G.I. are miniscule or not is going to effect the person in the long term even if it is just slightly. If we are discussing cutting weight those miniscule differences will turn into larger and more noticeable differences in the long run.
@justangvano GI looks at isolated food taken into the body during a fasted state. This is hardly ever the case for anyone as you've even mentioned yourself (with the sugar and fats example). Also some foods that have a low GI still have high insulin responses (like milk and baked beans). It's just not really applicable to most people. Did you read the article I mentioned in the video and that's in the description box?
@campbellfitness I know this is a different topic but how important are fish oils in your diet? I'm on a bulk if that matters.. and thanks for the videos, keep it up!
It's not "Bro Science" Brown Rice is a healthier choice than white. I don't know anyone that I've known say white rice is bad it's just brown rice is better. Just like wheat bread is better than white bread. I always do what is best thus I eat brown rice over white & whole grain bread or ezekiel bread if/when I can find it over white bread. IIFYM is the wackest notion man, it allows for lazy dieting and people like it because they can have "guilt free" meals as long as they make it Fit Macros
@jaymeez Isn't IIFYM more healthy mentally as you never feel guilty, why would you possibly feel guilty about food??? Also, in terms of health; food cannot generally be labelled as healthy or unhealthy unless compared to a full diet, if you've already met your B-vitamin and fibre requirements, how would brown rice be healthier than white rice?
@TheHerEmbrace "food cannot generally be labelled as healthy or unhealthy unless compared to a full diet" Are you kidding me here? The topic of this video is Brown Rice vs White Rice & the healthier option is Brown rice, it's not my opinion this is fact. About feeling guilty about food, I don't. I have my cheat meal or day depending and I earned it. The IIFYM motto is eat WTF you want as long as you work it in your macros. This leads to usually 1 or 2 meals a day of pigging out.
@jaymeez Depends on your definition of healthy. I take a broader view of my diet and to me there's no real difference. The reason I say that is as I mentioned brown rice has more micro-nutrients, however this doesn't mean much to me as I get enough of what it provides in the rest of my diet. I also think the IIFYM approach is much harder to follow than your typical "bodybuilding" diet as you really have to track what you eat and get specific about portions to ensure you make your numbers.
@CampbellFitness Are you saying a person following the typical bodybuilding diet doesn't track their macros? Because that's false. IIFYM is simple and allows people to eat garbage. I saw Iam Bitchass Mccarthy eating pop tarts and I saw another character on here eating all kinds junk foods with cola because it "fits his macros", oh he only has 1-2 meals a day btw? I say quality is best at every meal. So best option and brown rice is better than white thus it is the only rice I buy.
@jaymeez I didn't say that at all, I'm saying that the assessment that IIFYM is lazy approach is untrue, as in the end you still have to pay attention to what you're eating and it's impact on your diet.
@jaymeez I agree. I honestly don't care if someone preaches the "IIFYM" routine especially of late. there is just no way people can eat pop tarts and soda and expect to have a decent body. maybe an average everyday joe body but not someone who's really serious about health and fitness.
@sanitary103 IIFYM is for the lazy gym goer and not a true bodybuilder. If you eat a pop tart and don't call it a cheat because "it fits your macros" than that is just an excuse to eat like shit and not feel guilty. Not all calories are created equal! You are a true thinker friend..
@jaymeez Your comment makes absolutely no sense. ANd yes no all calories are created equal, there are proteins, carbs, and fats. You must be a genius for figuring this one out.
I like Brown rice for its satiation feeling I get when I eat it, but the taste of white rice has always been better no matter how much salt, pepper, and oil I use in brown rice. I mix it up though, one week brown, next week white.
Your tats are so dirty man! I love em. With the rice, I feel way fuller with brown vs. white, and I already have a huge appetite as is. Keep it up man!
Thanks for your opinion, it's nice to see someone with experience give advice on nutrition because you know they've applied/tested it.
Question though, what's your take on sweet potatoes and yams? I always hear people saying sweet potatoes are a good complex carb but not often do I hear people talk about yams.
imo fiber is key to cutting and cutting out my carbs is important. I'd rather not read a whole bunch about cutting, building muscle is more important and complex imo. whatever gets me to a caloric deficit is fine, whether that be low-fat, low-carb, or high fiber diets. (i personally combine all three.) good video brandon but remember at the end of the day cals out vs cals in is what matters and low carb, high fiber diets almost always put you at a caloric deficit!
@mentalshade Somewhat agree. I'm on a moderate to moderate high carb diet now and am losing weight! Most people over do it in protein or fats, so if those were scaled to better levels it would allow you to up carbs. Thanks for the feedback.
Totally agree with your opinion on white rice and GI. A few months ago, 3 of my 5 meals (including my last meal at 8 pm), consisted of lean meat, veggies and 40g of white rice, but I was still losing weight because I was on a slight caloric deficit.
However, we should avoid avoid refined grains, processed foods and sugars. And white rice is a refined grain deprived of all vitamins and minerals. We should eat natural, whole foods, the way our grand grand parents ate. I only eat brown rice now.
I have a question and I figure you of all people would know. Since I'm cutting, for the first time ever, do you I eat the same calories in my off day as I do during training. My training split is PHAT so I have wednesday day and sunday off.
@Duhludden Some people like to eat more on training days and less on off days. In the end it ends up being equal since your caloric intake takes weeks to take effect. So you can do that or you can just eat the same amount each day. whatever you prefer.
I posed this question to another youtuber as well. It seems like everyone refers to 1 gram per pound when taking protein. Now if someone is trying to lose weight , and is over weight. Let's say 220 lbs and his ideal body weight is 165 lbs would he take 165 grams of protein. Since he is trying to loose weight.
@audiobrucewayne It's a crude number for sure. It's supposed to be based off lean body weight. Obviously someone who's 400 lbs shouldn't be taking in 400 grams of protein, I'd say maybe shoot for .8 grams/lb if you're worried about it. Again, losing weight is about being in a caloric deficit, so if you're taking in a bit higher protein it's not necessarily hurtful more than it is wasteful, but you'd be limiting the amounts of carbs/fats you take in instead. Does that make sense?
I feel more full when I eat brown rice, it might just be my own imagination, but that's why I prefer brown rice. Btw what's the purpose of stripping the rice from nutrients etc? It doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't that just make it more expensive, processing the food like that? :S
For me I eat both types. And then I combine them with beans and then I have my russet potatoes and yams for my carbs.

@CampbellFitness I know. But according to experts it wasn't just GI of B-rice that will help diabete, there was something else. You are proably thinking "bullshit" but I don't want to make essay here.
RiseofBane 1 month ago
Really like the video, interesting article. I'm not sold on it though. Too many variables in those studies and I'm sure there will be a new study with new information next week. I will stick with what's tried and true.
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano I'm not saying the method you use doesn't work. I'm saying it doesn't have to be that way. There are plenty of studies that support this, I just used this article as it conveniently put them all together. I'm not big on hammering home something as being scientific fact repeatedly, but the results on this (both based on the article and applied to my own diet) speak pretty clearly.

Awesome video! Would it be right to say that getting 30g of carb from brown rice, white rice, and table sugar be the same?
e1g3r 1 month ago
@e1g3r In the long term, yes. However if you don't have a solid diet in place and aren't getting enough micro-nutrients from your diet, you might want to try to incorporate certain foods over others.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness I think what is often forgotten when people ask a question like e1g3r asked regarding whether brown rice, white rice and table sugar have the same response within the body is that most people when eating rice consume it with a protein and probably some fats. When most people consume sugar they are consuming it with more simple carbohydrates and often bad fats in dessert.
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano Sugar is a simple carb.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness I think you miss understood what I meant. In many cases when consuming sugar you are also consuming other forms of simple carbs as well as bad fats, i.e. most desserts or having a sweet flavored coffee from Starbucks. In this case you are not only consuming a simple carb, which in my opinion does effect fat gain, you would also be consuming other unnecessary calories. My point is that you might want to be more careful about the wording of your advice.
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano I still disagree. Simple carbs do not make you fat. What leads to fat gain is consistently being in a caloric surplus. It's as simple as that. People can still enjoy the food they like, however they must be made aware of the consequences it can have on their diet (over indulging and putting yourself into a surplus instead of aiming for a deficit).
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness I agree your statement that consistently being in a caloric surplus will make a person fat. I have agreed with you on that point from the beginning; however, "It's as simple as that" is a shoot and a miss when it comes to the article you posted in the comments. The whole point of the article is "Like all things in science - especially the deep bubbly cauldron that is applied nutritional science - it ain't all that simple" (last paragraph).
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano The simplistic view of gaining or losing weight is still dependent on calories. Obviously it gets more detailed when talking about micro-nutrients and specific goals. The point of the article however is geared towards judging carbs off of GI. If I'm not mistaken your main point was that differences in GI make noticeable differences in diet in the long run, which I still disagree on. Either way I think we're running in circles! So we'll just have to agree to disagree.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness The trouble with getting all of your information from one article is that the opinion will change again in a few years if not a few months. New studies will be introduced and a new article will be written on how the tried and true method of using the G.I. I'm sure the article holds some validity but what has worked for so many people before you will also continue to work for people after you. Do you consume any kind of specific post-workout food?
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano I addressed this in my other response, but I'll repeat it. I'm not saying the "old" method doesn't work. I'm saying it's not the only way to see results. As far as post workout goes, I train first thing in the morning. When I come home I have eggs, toast and peanut butter.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness The other problem with your argument is that whether you consume a simple carb. with protein and fat or not the G.I. still goes up. The fact that these differences in G.I. are miniscule or not is going to effect the person in the long term even if it is just slightly. If we are discussing cutting weight those miniscule differences will turn into larger and more noticeable differences in the long run.
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano I disagree. Cutting weight in the long term is about caloric deficits. The problem is GI itself is not applicable in real life.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness Can you explain what you mean in more detail?
justangvano 1 month ago
@justangvano GI looks at isolated food taken into the body during a fasted state. This is hardly ever the case for anyone as you've even mentioned yourself (with the sugar and fats example). Also some foods that have a low GI still have high insulin responses (like milk and baked beans). It's just not really applicable to most people. Did you read the article I mentioned in the video and that's in the description box?
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@justangvano Also the food you consume alters GI, as it can slow the release of glucose in the blood (which is what GI measures).

IIFYM is the wackest notion man, it allows for lazy dieting and people like it because they can have "guilt free" meals as long as they make it Fit Macros
jaymeez 1 month ago
@jaymeez Isn't IIFYM more healthy mentally as you never feel guilty, why would you possibly feel guilty about food??? Also, in terms of health; food cannot generally be labelled as healthy or unhealthy unless compared to a full diet, if you've already met your B-vitamin and fibre requirements, how would brown rice be healthier than white rice?
TheHerEmbrace 1 month ago
@TheHerEmbrace Great response. I gave my response before reading yours but we said the same thing!
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@TheHerEmbrace "food cannot generally be labelled as healthy or unhealthy unless compared to a full diet" Are you kidding me here? The topic of this video is Brown Rice vs White Rice & the healthier option is Brown rice, it's not my opinion this is fact. About feeling guilty about food, I don't. I have my cheat meal or day depending and I earned it. The IIFYM motto is eat WTF you want as long as you work it in your macros. This leads to usually 1 or 2 meals a day of pigging out.
jaymeez 1 month ago
@jaymeez Depends on your definition of healthy. I take a broader view of my diet and to me there's no real difference. The reason I say that is as I mentioned brown rice has more micro-nutrients, however this doesn't mean much to me as I get enough of what it provides in the rest of my diet. I also think the IIFYM approach is much harder to follow than your typical "bodybuilding" diet as you really have to track what you eat and get specific about portions to ensure you make your numbers.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@CampbellFitness Are you saying a person following the typical bodybuilding diet doesn't track their macros? Because that's false. IIFYM is simple and allows people to eat garbage. I saw Iam Bitchass Mccarthy eating pop tarts and I saw another character on here eating all kinds junk foods with cola because it "fits his macros", oh he only has 1-2 meals a day btw? I say quality is best at every meal. So best option and brown rice is better than white thus it is the only rice I buy.
jaymeez 1 month ago
@jaymeez I didn't say that at all, I'm saying that the assessment that IIFYM is lazy approach is untrue, as in the end you still have to pay attention to what you're eating and it's impact on your diet.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago
@jaymeez I agree. I honestly don't care if someone preaches the "IIFYM" routine especially of late. there is just no way people can eat pop tarts and soda and expect to have a decent body. maybe an average everyday joe body but not someone who's really serious about health and fitness.
sanitary103 1 month ago
@sanitary103 IIFYM is for the lazy gym goer and not a true bodybuilder. If you eat a pop tart and don't call it a cheat because "it fits your macros" than that is just an excuse to eat like shit and not feel guilty. Not all calories are created equal! You are a true thinker friend..
jaymeez 1 month ago
@jaymeez Your comment makes absolutely no sense. ANd yes no all calories are created equal, there are proteins, carbs, and fats. You must be a genius for figuring this one out.
Farve4ever589 1 month ago
@Farve4ever589 You failed to mention "WHY" it makes no sense, to you?
jaymeez 1 month ago
@sanitary103 As long as you hit your fiber, micro and macro nutrients for the day it makes no difference what source you get it from.

imo fiber is key to cutting and cutting out my carbs is important. I'd rather not read a whole bunch about cutting, building muscle is more important and complex imo. whatever gets me to a caloric deficit is fine, whether that be low-fat, low-carb, or high fiber diets. (i personally combine all three.) good video brandon but remember at the end of the day cals out vs cals in is what matters and low carb, high fiber diets almost always put you at a caloric deficit!
mentalshade 1 month ago
@mentalshade Somewhat agree. I'm on a moderate to moderate high carb diet now and am losing weight! Most people over do it in protein or fats, so if those were scaled to better levels it would allow you to up carbs. Thanks for the feedback.
CampbellFitness 1 month ago 3
Totally agree with your opinion on white rice and GI. A few months ago, 3 of my 5 meals (including my last meal at 8 pm), consisted of lean meat, veggies and 40g of white rice, but I was still losing weight because I was on a slight caloric deficit.
However, we should avoid avoid refined grains, processed foods and sugars. And white rice is a refined grain deprived of all vitamins and minerals. We should eat natural, whole foods, the way our grand grand parents ate. I only eat brown rice now.

Duhludden 1 month ago
@Duhludden Some people like to eat more on training days and less on off days. In the end it ends up being equal since your caloric intake takes weeks to take effect. So you can do that or you can just eat the same amount each day. whatever you prefer.

I posed this question to another youtuber as well. It seems like everyone refers to 1 gram per pound when taking protein. Now if someone is trying to lose weight , and is over weight. Let's say 220 lbs and his ideal body weight is 165 lbs would he take 165 grams of protein. Since he is trying to loose weight.
audiobrucewayne 1 month ago
@audiobrucewayne It's a crude number for sure. It's supposed to be based off lean body weight. Obviously someone who's 400 lbs shouldn't be taking in 400 grams of protein, I'd say maybe shoot for .8 grams/lb if you're worried about it. Again, losing weight is about being in a caloric deficit, so if you're taking in a bit higher protein it's not necessarily hurtful more than it is wasteful, but you'd be limiting the amounts of carbs/fats you take in instead. Does that make sense?
