The opening quote is widely but mistakenly attributed to Thomas Jefferson. It's now in almost every cartoon, documentary, email, and blog post that criticizes The Fed. It sounds like something that Jefferson would say, and he apparently had similar beliefs, but he almost certainly didn't say this. There is no authentic record of him saying it, and the terms "inflation" and "deflation" were not used in the economic sense until a century later. Research, please!

I've also read that it's not a legitimate Jefferson quote by someone in a position to know. Don't they have the Google where you live? YouTube doesn't like links in the comments. Jefferson was more than just a scholar, his writings and research brought into light several sayings and thoughts, so it is nothing new if he used words in ways that were not popular; deflation and inflation. Check with Reuters American, Inc. they oversee over 27,000 of Jefferson's documents. The quote is Jefferson's. Sorry to debunk 'Monticello' sources.
