To say that some breeds are more aggressive than others is stupid. Any dog can bite. They all have that tendency. Each individual dog is different. Therefore you have some dogs who are more prone to biting than others, no matter what the breed. Just because one dog bites a person doesn't mean the whole damn breed needs to be 'banned'. I've had a pit. It was an incredibly sweet dog, especially around little kids. Blame the owners, not the dog or dog breed
Pit bulls can be great dogs if you breed them right. I have known a pit for years and he has never bit me while my chihuahua has done more damage to my hands than he ever would.

We can't judge all dogs or the entire breed of a dog based on the actions of a few. Most of the times dogs that are aggressive are either aggressive because they have been taught to be so or the owners got the dog and did not realize how to control them. I do not believe that just because a dog is a pit means it is evil or mean. I use to have a pit that was the nicest dog actually nicer than my small dog which is a terrier. If you don't like pits or can't control them then don't get them!

@OMGitsNikki99 that is not true. i have a PHD in veterinary medicine and have worked with many breeds of dogs. the majority of the pitbulls ive dealt with have never shown any agression towards people or other animals. one main reason for any breed becoming agressive is due to not being properly socialized as a puppy. the woman you saw on the news most likely didnt socialize her pit during the first 4 crucial months of puppyhood..or it possibly could have been inbred.

Any dog has the ability to suddenly revert to its basic instinct without warning. Its not the breed, in fact the most dog attacks on humans in the UK are committed by Labradors for the simple reason that there are more Labradors than any other dog. They don't get reported because a labrador is bred for its soft bite (bird dogs), a pit bull is bred for its crushing bite, and does so much more damage. Every owner says 'they've never done that before' but by then its too late. I say ban the breed.

I have a pit bull and a chihuahua. My pit is the sweetest boy. He has never bitten, snapped or been aggressive towards anyone or animal. On the other hand my chihuahua is feisty. She has nipped at fingers and is not as friendly. I've heard that if a pit bull bites or hurts a human that it's not purebreed. No idea if it's a true statement. Anyhow German Shepards, golden retrievers, poodles and labs are all aggressive breeds yet so many people have them as family pets. It's just pure ignorance.

If the news put reports of pitbulls saving lives and being kind and loyal to children and their owners, they would get alot more respect. The majority of people eat the information given to them about pits being vicious- that's only because the trainer. Chiwawa's or however you spell it are FAR more aggressive than pit bulls, but everyone thinks of them as cute little pets. The prejudice is driving me crazy..

To say that some breeds are more aggressive than others is stupid. Any dog can bite. They all have that tendency. Each individual dog is different. Therefore you have some dogs who are more prone to biting than others, no matter what the breed. Just because one dog bites a person doesn't mean the whole damn breed needs to be 'banned'. We can't judge all dogs or the entire breed of a dog based on the actions of a few. Most of the times dogs that are aggressive are either aggressive because they have been taught to be so or the owners got the dog and did not realize how to control them. I do not believe that just because a dog is a pit means it is evil or mean. I use to have a pit that was the nicest dog actually nicer than my small dog which is a terrier. If you don't like pits or can't control them then don't get them!

@OMGitsNikki99 that is not true. i have a PHD in veterinary medicine and have worked with many breeds of dogs. the majority of the pitbulls ive dealt with have never shown any agression towards people or other animals. one main reason for any breed becoming agressive is due to not being properly socialized as a puppy. the woman you saw on the news most likely didnt socialize her pit during the first 4 crucial months of puppyhood..or it possibly could have been inbred.

i have my baby storm since she was 3 weeks old now she is 1 1/2 years we have other dogs and cats she has never tired 2 attack anyother animal even when another dog came up and attacked her she layed there and didnt do any thing

ive had pits all my life my parents had them before i was born this is the kind of dog i grew up wit i would never want another dog...we used to bring in strays and fighters retrained them when we lived in rockford ill and every single 1 came out 2 be a great family dog we would sell them whenn we were done and never did we ever get a call bout the attackin a person or other animal...

pit bulls are one of the nices dogs ever. its the owner who makes them have a bad rep. i have 2 pit bulls and they have never even tired to bit anyone of attack them. sure if someone trys to attack the owner the pit bull or any dog would they to help

@blazeandhunter I own pit bulls. That obey commands. And they don't buck up to people when they approach me without my command. The pit bull DID do something wrong. It got aggressive without orders to do so. That resulted in an injury to a human. Shooting the dog? Not right. But where I'm from. If my pitbulls LOOK at someone wrong. They'd be taken away from me and held for observation.

ANY breed can be raised to be mean... the American Staffordshire Terrier, not to be confused with bulldog/rottweiller/canine corso ect, was known as a NANNY DOG in England and the U.S. It is idiots who need an extension of their phallus' to make their dogs mean by abusing or neglecting them. Regardless of age or background, they have a better temperament than Labs. Any other breed attacking doesn't sell papers or make it on the 10 o'clock news.

Ignorance is bliss... people who talk about how bad the AMERICAN STAFFORSHIRE TERRIER is, know nothing about them. The nickname PIT BULL stems from what they were taught to do by "ENGLISH GENTLEMAN". They first "sport" they were taught was to kill rats in a shallow pit, then they upped the ante by digging larger, deeper pits and putting bulls in them. The Stafforshire Terrier that killed the most in the shortest amount of time was the winner.

14 kind of dogs are called pitbulls. so any one of those dogs attack it goes out as a pitbull attack. mine saved my life, and never attack anyone unless it needed too.

I find it funny that people claim to have more intellect then others, just because they have spell check on their internet browser. Clearly this could of been any breed, each animal has their own way of thinking, and personality. I've had pitbulls since I was born, and they are very loyal, and friendly to others around them, even strangers. It's not the breeds fault, if their owners don't socialize them well. It's sad the breed is hated so much, just because of inexperienced owners.

Any dog has the ability to suddenly revert to its basic instinct without warning. Its not the breed, in fact the most dog attacks on humans in the UK are committed by Labradors for the simple reason that there are more Labradors than any other dog. They don't get reported because a labrador is bred for its soft bite (bird dogs), a pit bull is bred for its crushing bite, and does so much more damage. Every owner says 'they've never done that before' but by then its too late. I say ban the breed.

Thanks. I don't understand why, of all the breeds of dog available, people have to have these? Its like bringing a happy time bomb into your family home. And why are so many of the owners almost invariably tattoo'd vest wearing shaven headed thugs with an undisciplined pit bull straining at the end of a taught leash? Is the dog making up for some kind of psychological (or more likely physical) deficiency in their human 'owner'. I feel way more sorry for the dogs than the owners.

Mostly when you try and have a conversation with them they keep on replying with bullshit and I can't be bothered arguing with them when they clearly are lacking in brain power. The only reason people have them is for a status symbol.. Why else? They are ugly too, not exactly a lovely family pet. What really gets me is when they talk about pits being so much safer than labs and retrievers, it's complete bullshit and it gets me so annoyed.

Never mind, perhaps when your'e old enough mommy will let you buy a nice little doggie that can rip your face off too for no apparent reason. I have a pit bull and a chihuahua. My pit is the sweetest boy. He has never bitten, snapped or been aggressive towards anyone or animal. On the other hand my chihuahua is feisty. She has nipped at fingers and is not as friendly. I've heard that if a pit bull bites or hurts a human that it's not purebreed. No idea if it's a true statement. Anyhow German Shepards, golden retrievers, poodles and labs are all aggressive breeds yet so many people have them as family pets. It's just pure ignorance.

@Bittersweet21222 I've trained pitbulls to be sweet, and that doesn't make me ignorant. If the news put reports of pitbulls saving lives and being kind and loyal to children and their owners, they would get alot more respect. The majority of people eat the information given to them about pits being vicious- that's only because the trainer. Chiwawa's or however you spell it are FAR more aggressive than pit bulls, but everyone thinks of them as cute little pets. The prejudice is driving me crazy..

If you buy a dog from a reputable breeder, in most cases you will never have to worry about human aggression, its the back yard breeder who give the dog a bad name. Who says that other breeds dont attack humans? I think you should talk to people who own pits, it migh take some of that fear away

Instinct is an innate behavior or impulisive motive. No matter how well you think you train that thing their innate/unlearned impulse can come about. Pit Bulls are GREAT animals.
