Great reportage, saddly the Mexican Media don't show this to the public opinion. The war against the drug cartels won't be won by just fighting them. The government should also tackle the addicts, but sending them to prison won't do, they have to rehabilitate and give them medical treatment as well as education programs and campaign to avoid new potential addicts. President Calderon such redirect his war and he should stop playing to be a Rambo.

The reporter didn't say poor mexican, the addict who was interview was the one who said it. Mexico is not a paradise, and you should be realistic. I don't know why many Mexicans, and hey I am Mexican living in the country, when foreigner talks about the Mexican situation all of the sudden our patriotism and our love for Mexico comes out, and we feel so offended. When normally we don't do anything to change it, that's why our politicians do what ever they please.

In those days, people had a different outlook on stimulants than we do today. The most addictive weight control stimulant was Preludin. Speed is still employed by the military to counter G Forces. Actually stupid, Meth is a drug with 100% American origins. It was founded in the United States and it was largely produced in the U.S. However, during the late 1990's law enforcement began to crack down hard on production and use of meth and as a result you have less Americans producing and distributing the drug. Americans still make it but in lesser numbers. Mexicans criminals have stepped forward to fill the gap and answer the American demand for meth. Nonetheless, it is an American drug.

Yes, you are right about the part where meth originates from Japan but during the 1990's most meth was produced and distributed within the U.S. without any outside involvement from a foreign drug cartel like cocaine and heroin are.
I was trying to prove that point to I1998 (the person whom I originally commented to) because he seems to believe that Mexicans are responsible for America's drug ills which is just not wrong but racist.
