Yeah, 4Hi is good for snow. In icy or other slippery situations that I need to creep down a hill using all for wheel and engine torque to brake, I use 4Lo.
I have 4wd and snow tires which is not required to put chains on. But, it is required to carry chains. All other vehicles have to put them on at the Chain Station on the way up the hill.... and, it is supposed to snow the next couple days... so be prepared! You can check road conditions by googling "Big Bear Road Conditions"
