  • Is it true this is the first platformer?

  • Damn dude, you came across so many scorpions, they could have at least played "Rock you like a hurricane" or something.

  • I don't know why Pitfall is considered a classic and one of the best Atari games. Nostalgia mostly, I think. Even back in the day I was bored senseless playing it. There are lots of 2600 titles that are better

  • @AqualungGameReviews Have You Ever Been Funny In Any Episodes?, No Offense

  • @arrias99 I didn't realize he was making reviews for comedic purposes. silly me, I should've known this was all a lie >_> (dipshit).

  • 1:42 - 1:50 Hahahahaha! XD

  • Dude, an A+? I've been playing for years, and still haven't completed it. I've only had it for 2 years, but its HARD!!! But fun, so there is an upside.

  • do you get to find the sacred document?

  • " .... SEVEN! Seven scrorpions! There had better be treasure waiting for me after this.

OH, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!"

    lol!

  • This is one of the few games I would still play, even after all of these years.

Going through one underground is the same as three topside.

Start the game and go down that first ladder, but go toward the left once underground.

Once up, go right, jump over the fire, then go back down the next ladder, Go left. You should get the money in less than a minute.

It's impossible to beat the game without using the tunnels. You end up running out of time if you don't.

  • My best score on this was around 66000 points. Any score over 20000 would make you eligible for an Explorer's Club emblem. I imagine they gave out a lot, considering how easy it was for me to score that much and that I'm far from the most skilled video game player around. Also, the crocs are nothing compared to the scorpions. The margin for error is much slimmer. And I don't think you can beat the game without using the underground passages.

  • Lol, yeah I remember those 7 scorpions and then the brick wall. WTF! Then you have to jump back over the 7 scorpions to get back, which means jumping a total of friggin 14 scoprions in a row. Powned! You rethink taking those shortcuts, which I'm sure is what that sick bastard game programmer meant to do.

  • what? there was a ending 2 this game..holy shit balls!!

  • When I was a kid playing this I used to think the scorpions were skulls with legs lol x

  • Well, it is a very nice brick wall! I've seen worse brick walls!

  • why do you resort to emulation?

  • @highwaysonyfan87 I've answered this question a lot, but you may not have heard it before. I don't have the equipment to convert straight from the console to the computer. And it's much less of a headache with systems like NES with my walkthroughs, keeping save states for each level makes grabbing footage I missed much easier, as opposed to going back through the entire game to capture 4 seconds of footage.

  • thumbs up if u want him to review pitfall 2

  • Which emulator do you use?

  • will you review pitfall 2?

  • best graphics on Atari 2600

  • Wait wait wait... my version even the cartridge art looks really diffrent ... This game looks brighter has more colors and just wow... what is this an emulator or another version of the game?

  • @Frogster7 It's an emulator

  • OMG I remember this game

  • SEVEN Scorpions, Brick Wall.

One time where the F-Bomb was warranted! :)

  • How do you make your reviews ? Record with emulators and narrate the timeline in Movie Maker or other software ?

  • I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Man, you crack me up!!!

  • the funniest thing is that activision is still around and atari is dead!!!

  • When you go underground, you actually skip ahead to the third screen. So it is possible to make a map and find the quickest way to all the treasures.

  • LOL PWNT @ 1:51 BHWHAHA

  • I thought the scorpion walking on the cave of Pitfall was a skull when I was a child

  • Sweet! I remember play those games as a kid!

  • this is a challenging game!

  • 1:46 LMFAO

  • LOL with the scorpions, that made me laugh so dang hard.

  • Is this the PAL version by the way? The colors look as bad as if it were, and the main character moves slower than in the NTSC version, in my estimate.

  • I got the PAL version but it is faster, got better scrolling and the colors look better than the game in the video.

  • Pitfall and Pitfall 2 are really cool games, still today.

  • Actually it's Pitfall! and not Pitfall ... There's an exclamation point. Aqualung makes the same mistake here.. it's probably as common mistake as writing "Yar's Revenge" instead of "Yars' Revenge" (it's the people of Yar and not one individual named Yar, you know) ..

Great games, there's something really special 'charm' that makes you come back to play it again and again for the rest of the eternity, I presume (-8

  • best game i played when i was young

  • "aye!" I'm walking here!

  • damn it scuhpe enns

  • well said

  • "Damn, I came all this way for a brick wall."

    That's some shortcut, eh?

  • classico

  • What happens if you collect all the treasures? You just wait for time to run out?

  • I doubt you can, somehow. And if you can, I guess the game ends.

  • @retrowens The game ends immediately.

  • Aqua i hope you review the Sequal to Pitfall 2 Lost Caverns soon =D

  • hey, how much would one of these games cost back then?

  • One of these games would have cost around $10 - $20. Depending on maker and demand.

  • Hey, I've played that!

  • The "vine" is actual one of Atari's "Bullet Sprites" that the programmer twisted and distorted into a vince. Genius.

Here's a map, highlighting all the best underground shortcuts: /members(DOT)tripod(DOT)com/~PitfallHarry/MapRoom/PitfallMap.html

  • wow, didnt no that

  • Its amazing what our imagination was able to make it appear like

  • i always thought the scorpian was a walking skull lol

  • Best TRUE review for the 2600 Pitfall! game I have found on Youtube. Nice job.

  • i know this game :)

  • I think Adventure was the best game for the Atari (crap graphics and all) but this game was seriously addictive and a lot of fun

  • 1:17 starts the scorpion adventure

  • Remember though, you can't get a perfect score without learning which underground routes to take (I just found this out myself). There isn't enough time to finish every screen without the short cuts.

  • Have you ever played Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure for the SNES?

  • I've played the Genesis version. It's a big improvement from Super Pitfall but I never really loved it.

  • its on pc too

  • yaaaaa wat?

  • My dad still has his Atari 2600, so I might be able to play it :D (I'm 11)

  • Aqualung, are you going to review Pitfall II?

  • nice review! iv been watching your videos for some time now and finally decided to subscribe. you have very informative info and you make interesting to listen to. A+++

  • Loved that game as a kid, never played the sequel though! =(

  • Great game!

  • COOL

  • yeah avoid all the pits lol your emu has so much color it looks nice

  • I played it first via cheat on the Playstation Pitfall game (which was also very fun to play). Years later I found a copy of this game for my Atari. These games can kill a few minutes, but I was introduced in the Commodore 64, NES and SNES games which featured a lot more gameplay and all that jazz. Atari games have been always a bit of stripped down to the core games for me, nothing to spend on for hours.

  • lol brick wall

  • This and Adventure were the best two atari games

  • awesome vid dude

  • Another excellent review. It's nice to see another Pitfall review, the one you did on Super Pitfall is still my favorite.

  • yeah that one was hilarious. invisible exits and keys, what the hell.

  • That was a really awesome review! Rock on! Pitfall kicks ass.

  • This game is fun.

  • Dude... your my favorite Atari reviewer. Thank you for sharing the past!

  • Have you ever played the Arcade version of Pitfall? I've seen it only once in my entire life (until MAME came along anyway) and it's pretty good, it's really a rehash of Pitfall II with much better graphics and mine carts, Sega also made it and it looks remarkably like a Master System game, even using the same Tree sprites from Wonder Boy and Safari Hunt.

  • Pitfall is pretty good.

  • If I remember correctly, there are a total of 256 screens, and if you go underground it skips 3 screens on the top. You didn't mention that like a lot of Activision games you could send in a picture of your score and get an iron-on patch. I think the score was 20k, which is not too difficult to get. Every time I sent off for a patch they were always out of Pitfall patches and sent me some other patch for some game like Spider Fighter :(

  • Ew. 14 scorpions, and nothing to show for it but a brick wall? Cruel, Pitfall. XD Cruel.

But even so, it still looks like an awesome game (and not just for its time, either, certainly). Good show, Aqualung! Good show.

  • Pitfall was the best Atari game. Nice review.

  • Deserved rating, still a great game.

  • Holy shit I think that is the first I have seen that raiting. fantastic short review Aqualung I love pitfall.

  • LOL, i just watched your super pitfall review again yesterday, how ironic. nice review AL.

  • Hey, I just watched that review yesterday as well! :) Anywho, this was one of the first games I ever played... I don't recall how far I ever got... So old...hard to remember... Excellent review, as always! Nostalgia ftw! :D

  • I love that game, simple and addicting

  • Nice review. What about Pitfall: the Mayan adventure?

  • "14 scorpions and nothing to show for it but a brick wall". lol.

  • Another great review Aqualung!!! Keep up the good work!!! I'm looking forward to seeing your next game review!!

  • Nice review.

  • Best Atari 2600 game. I love it so much ^_^ XD

  • Glad to see more Atari reviews.

    Also second lol

  • Awesome review Aqualung
