  • ME-NJ, Had a strange feeling about not being around my Grandparents. Took a bus home and spent time with them, three weeks later my grandfather passed. The trail was amazing, planning on trying again maybe do it GA-ME this time.

P.S. That is great you met your wife while on the Trail, Congrats!

  • I only went from long mountain to west balpate but it was amazing

  • Time mark 1:40 is one reason why you can't trust the water on the trail anywhere. Dudes, repeat after me, gallon size ziplocs, dip raise and pour, preferably 100 ft from any stream. I don't like drinking your crotch and pit funk.

  • Awesome!!! MUD here...GA>ME 2001...i swear that was wolverine beam in the first of this vid..if so we summitted katadhin together...thanks for the good memory..peace

  • 4-11-09 to 9-8-09

the BEST experience of my entire life.

if you're contemplating hiking the AT just DO IT!

  • I'm at the ATC in Harpers Ferry! Got the picture taken and got a chance to look through the 2001 photo book and what do you know, I found the picture of the 3 of you guys! This trek has been so AMAZING and I'm looking forward to the second half!

Vorpalbite you should have went Southbound

  • For me - the worst part of the AT are the people. They all think they have a right to be in your face and your buisness. Never occured to people I was there to be ALONE. You will not get privacy on the AT.

  • @Vorpalbite no shit, every year over 1 million people set foot on the AT in one way or another, from day hiker to thru hiker. this is a fact you should be aware of if you have ambitions of thru-hiking the trail in solitude. theres a few things you should do if you want privacy on the AT. First off, consider an alternate itinerary to NOBO. Flip-flop or go SOBO to avoid the NOBO crowd. AVOID SHELTERS. Camp in the woods. Skip hostels. You cant avoid everybody, but that should help.

  • Additionally, there are high-use areas where you dont have much choice like GSMNP, SNP, and Baxter, but they dont take long to get through. Actually i HATED the parks. they were the most unnatural part of my entire thru-hike.

  • you're right...work is depressing. I miss the trail something fierce!

    Noodleman 94' GA-ME

  • amazing video, i've watched it 100 times just about! I'm heading out 4/11/09 to complete the AT.

great inspiration to hike the trail!

    thank you

    -Dustin

  • Amen to that, along with so many others it's my dream to hike the AT, however being in the UK somewhat complicates things, but one day.....

  • Lovely, thanks.

  • Excellant vid ,thanks for the shareing. Lots of memories! 5/5

    The Desperado

  • Thank you for your video. It's my dream to thru-hike the AT in my lifetime. I've read books and researched it online and watched videos like yours. everytime i read or see something about the AT my heart just pounds with excitement. I camp in Shenandoah national park. every year i see AT hikers and i just look at them in aw. I've been a Trail angel at times and love asking questions about everyones hike. How did hiking the trail change your life back home or did it? please share.

  • it did change my life, in all the obvious ways, like increased confidence in my ability to handle any situation, short-term and long. That kinda thing faded with time, but you can always bring it back by remembering what you've done. The biggest effect was that while hiking, I met a girl in a town in New Hampshire, and we got married 4 years later, almost to the day. Without the thruhike, I would have never met her.

  • Wanna hear something funny? When I finished my '05 northbounder on Katahdin, It was a beautiful saturday and there were loads of day hiker city-folk at the summit. So we showed up cheering and howling, etc... everyone rolled their eyes. They thought we had just walked from the PARKING LOT.

  • It is so hard to tell people what you have done... what you have been through. I know how you feel.

  • We went up a few of these mountains too.

    Only maine though :\

  • Hiking the AT is a dream of mine as well. Looks like I may get to follow it in a couple yrs. I just bought this film, and to anyone wishing to attempt the AT, this film is very much worth purchasing. Of course its only going to "throw fuel on the campfire" of your desire to do it. It definately gave me white blaze fever.
