Khan is Khan, but I must admit that I am really surprised with Fabio's singing... In a good way. I think they choose a good replacement, but I still hope that Khan will return one day...
European power metal was what got me into metal in the first place. It's safe to say that this is better than a lot of the alternatives I could imagine.
@Mitja003 Well for starters the audio quality sucks, and secondly yes Roy was better but damn it Fabio does a damn good job. I will continue supporting them and hope that they return to the states soon so i can finally see them live.
@xfootballer814 First of all, Kamelot is my favourite band, I've seen them live with Roy and it was amazing.. just sayin' that it'll never be the same.. and just like you do, I want to see them live with Fabio and I'll never stop supporting them.
oh my god... I can't even stand to listen to it through... hearing Lione sing in Roy's stead just makes me puke. Lione may even be a great singer, but he definitely doesn't fit in with kamelot at all... plus his pronounciation just makes me sick. I'd kick him in the face whenever he opens his mouth to speak english. LIONE GO HOME!!! YOU SUCK!!!
WOW... this was really good. I don't think there's any "replacement" for Khan, but this is a pretty good new direction for Kamelot, should they choose it. I didn't think Tommy was a good fit (he's better with his own band SW, which btw is shockingly amazing). Michael Eriksen from CM was really awesome in his guest appearance, but he's recording with CM right now. THIS was awesome. Fabio is different than Khan, but edgy enough and a great on-stage presence. This is good. Bravo!
fabio is fine and all but i feel like this voice is too polished and thin. roy's voice had a fullness and a richness to it. and you felt more emotion when he pushed for the higher notes. i really have no interest in seeing kamelot without roy
On the lower notes, he sounds alright, I'll give him that. But that's the most slack I feel I can give because ultimately, he doesn't bring the same emotions that Khan did. Khan always felt conflicted, an undertone of a beautiful but bitter and constant inner struggle was ALWAYS apparent in his voice. He always seemed to be -feeling- what the character in the song was about and -that's- what made his performance a cut above the rest.
@innocentamelia Damn straight! It's Roy's vocals that pulls me into the songs, regardless of the cheesy lyrics and themes, hehe. For me, Kamelot will not work with anyone else, because he is the key ingredient. Casey's drumwork will still be as awesome though!
@innocentamelia I totally agree. You know what... I got a similar feeling during Michael Eriksen's stand-in performance. It makes sense since he sings that way on his own album Isolate. While he's not a replacement for Khan, he brings his own and has that similar feel of conflict. You know who I think would also bring that? Ray Adler... Have you heard Snowfall on Judgement Day??? Wow, talk about beautiful and conflicted.
Fabio is a great singer for sure. His style is just different from Roy's. So they just have to adjust accordingly... but I'm afraid I will lose two bands I love in the process. So yeah, I'm unsure.
I think Roy had a richer, more 'stage' voice. He was all opera like and commanded the stage. Fabio's voice is just fine, but he lacks the stage presence/voice thing I think Roy has. Also, the inflections on certain words is just weird to listen too when you're used to a certain accent singing your songs! It's not BAD, just different.
@KMarien I agree, and in truth it was that opera training that brought the theatrical element to the group and really made their performances come off as metal playworks.
And mixing theatre and metal is just like combining an orchestra with metal-- it makes the experience far richer and more grandeur. Almost even decadent, but never quite going over the top, you know?
@innocentamelia Absolutely... I love Lione and all his work with Vision Divine, Rhapsody and such.. but he doesn't belong to this type of band.. Roy has a Very Dark voice and a different register, so elegant and creepy.. His lower notes reeaally makes anyone feel goosebumps.. he gives the band the "KAMELOT" thing that now it lacks... U.U
I love Lione... but not for Kamelot :/ I hate listening to him in these songs.. he has a very..VERY different style..
No one can really ever replace Khan .. not his voice nor his stage presence. But I also happen to really like Fabio.. he seems more 'personal' with the audience.. where Khan always seemed sorta.. Demigod looking down at his followers.. Haha. I'll miss Khan, but Im looking forward to seeing Kamelot with Fabio next month!
In my humble opinion Khan's best performance was the "One cold winters night" show. I even prefer listening to that recording over the original! Sadly though, his voice has taken a beating over the years and I don't think he'll ever sound the same. That's why I prefer Lione as a singer, his technique is phenomenal. His voice still sounds great after all these years. Also his vibrato is rather similar to Khan's, and that's no bad thing. I got goosebumps listening to this, keep Mr. Lione!! :)
hehehehehe, so fucking strange :-)! Watching Kamelot, hearing Rhapsody :-D!
what the fuck is happening with these bands? Dickinson, Tarja, Khan...?? Marketing trick maybe? Anyway, i actually like how Fabio fits to the Kamelot! I would like studio versions of some songs recorded with Fabio, then i will make my final judgement, for now i like him as a "replacement"
If i wanted a stereotypical power metal singer, unexperienced in the subtle nuances of opera and operatic metal, I'd just listen to Gamma Ray. Which I have no problem doing, just not at the same time as Kamelot. =/
Ambas voces me encantan.
Yeah... Fabio is doing well. His performance is great. It's just...Fabio has the typical voice of a powermetal singer... which Roy hadn't. His timbre was somehow richer and deeper and yet he hit all those high notes. It made him stand out, something special... and in the end it put to much strain on his vocal chords, I guess.
But I can't help... when I listen to Fabios performance of Don't you cry or the calm part of Centre of the Universe here... it lacks emotion, I just don't feel the same.
@OnceAgainICantSleep finally a comment that says more than just "this sucks, that sucks". Totally agree with you. Roy was better, and especially in the lower notes, he sounded richer and deeper, and his stage presence was very good, very charismatic. It sucks that he strained his voice to such extent, that he had to quit altogether. It is my opinion, tho, that since Roy is no longer there, I can live with Fabio singing those songs, they are still very good, different but good.
Ah I almost forgot, if for you it is the end of a truly great band, then go listen to something else, noone is forcing you. It's a free world, last time I checked
btw fyi english is not my first language (altho I didn't make spelling mistakes like you did in some of your posts....things like LOOSING and so on), but I don't mind looking like a retard, if what I write can be understood even by a deadbrain like you. Have fun
Touché. The fact you are ignoring, my esteemed music expert, is that everyone is appreciating the performances Fabio is pulling with Kam. And if 99% of the ppl who listened to the late Roy admit that he's lost his tones, and that Fabio is doing well, then maybe you are proven wrong. And if Kamelot is stupid enough to pick this guy for their tour just imagine how much the singer they end up choosing to permenantly replace Roy Khan is going to suck! What a shame... the end of a truly great band!
