You never and I mean never completely turn off your stability control on the 1/4 mile strip! You turn the traction control off but not the stability control. Competitive driving mode buddy, it's a corvette owners best friend on the strip. This is what can happen with it completely off. This pisses me off because it could have easily been avoided and now an awesome corvette Z06 got wrecked. Damn that sucks.
I was standing right behind this car and it was not the car it was pure driver mistake the car broke loose on the fresh launch pad that was installed at Saskatchewan International Raceway he was spinning ang the car started going right instead of getting off the throttle or steerign he kept into it and drove right into the rail and to top it all off he then proceeded to get back into the throttle a cruise through the top end cause he wanted a time slip ..... too much money
It's funny how many idiots try to tell other people how to drive. 5% of people actually get to drive a Corvette, EVER. The other 95% try to tell the Corvette driver what the fuck to do, when those same 95% would accidently put the thing into reverse and nail the car behind waiting to race.
It's one thing to race and know a "novice racer move/mistake" when you see it. But I GUARANTEE that 95% of you aren't professional racers. But then again, everyone here is 20 or 21 and knows everything.
@ShredaSpud Thats a pretty low percentage bro. Picking up a c5 isn't that hard these days... If you want the biggest and newest corvette... okay... but to get in a vette from less than 10 years ago would be simple.
@Texarmageddon I was referring to a new corvette, or nearly new. The vid is a new Z06. Sometimes I forget to add details to my comments.
Even if the Corvette was 8 years old, I'm sure most of the kids here would crash it. EVERYONE I've ever known that had a V8 right off the bat crashed it within a year. I'm mostly talking about 16-18 year olds here.
Wrong. You can recover the car. My C5Z makes the same HP as a stock C6Z, with much lower gearing(3.90's), and my blown ls3 makes about 150hp more than a C6Z06.
Once the car gets sideways, it is mostly all over unless you are lucky. This driver broke traction in 1st gear. Not a big deal. Once you are spinning, and slam 2nd gear, then the back end comes out from behind you. I know, I've been there. This is driver error.
@david8577 as to my other comment, i didnt read BMR's comment......HES A FUCKING MORON!!!! lol z06 has to be one the best super cars out there and its cheap as hell compared to others

@Flyingfast79 His insurance DID cover it! He was bragging after it happened about how he had a friend who was an insurance adjuster. $25000 damage on the racetrack, paid for by responsible insurance holders...!
he should lean to take his foot off the gas when the assend start to move around if u guys see she was going side to side off the line, it's always better tot take ur foot out of it and save the car for next race, and not go home on hook. i'v see lots of guys try to hotrod and hit the wall.
driving is like sex, all men think they are good at it, but when push comes to shove, you're in the wall
should have used Competitive Mode instead of turning everything off, so that when you are in serious trouble the computer will take over. Its crazy to think that active handling is gonna screw up your ET, by the time you are actually in need of something like stability control, i can promise you the last thing you are thinking of is your time slip
If you get there when the gates open and get through Tech right away. On a busy night 3-4 passes, on a quiet night as many as you like. If you show up late and get through tech, on a busy night 1-2 passes, on a quiet night as many as you like.
Wow this makes me nervous. I am planning to go out to SIR for the first time tomorrow night with my new SS Camaro and I don't want to do that.
I have never drag raced before, and I don't want to street race, so where am I supposed to practice so I don't smash into a wall and wreck a car that I can't get SGI to fix because your insurance stops at the strip?
1 more question: Do the dealers really have spies taking down numbers to void warranties? Should I take my plates off?
My advice to you if you are really worried about crashing. Take your car to SIR and don't totally abuse the car. Start off at idle and gently go through the gears. If you have a traction problem, get off the gas. Get to know your car at the track before you rag on it and this will not happen to you.
You could take your plates off but it doesn't do you much good as the announcers do mention the owner's name of the car which may be caught on video. If that video falls into the dealers hands via You-tube or whatever, well you may still be screwed...
I wouldn't doubt this had someting to do with the active handeling system. There is a NTSB investigation about this same thing happening.Does anyone know how I can contact the owner?
In case you didn't know, the Corvette's double wishbone transverse mounted unequal length composite leafspring suspension is far different from a typical Hotchkiss leafspring suspension. It is more accurately referred to as a double a-arm independent suspension.
blackhorsedesign was one of the volunteer staff working that night...
I was not there when it this happened. I have been told by a few people now that the Z06 was in 3rd gear when he lost it. He did hit the brakes once the car went sideways.
The Camaro did not let off and that car is louder than the Z06. It is the Camaro you hear when the Z06 hits the wall and moves out of the microphone range pretty quickly afterwards. I have raced against both cars in this video...
i was working that weekend with the koenders and steve koenders was raceing his rx7 and what happend was he was in 2nd and he started to swerve when he slammed it into 3rd and stepd on it he lost control. it was his fault entirely and after he hit he kept driveing he even tried to take the reture road but someone stopped him , herd it from the people at top end and the paramedics themselfs
Very interesting info in the last 2 posts. Explains a lot. Still makes me cringe to see a car like that crashed. If any SIR volunteers/staff check out this video it would be interesting to hear your opinions.
This driver with this car the previous week at a street legal at SIR got a warning to let off the gas because he was fish tailing down the whole track. In this video his car has Nitto NT01, 375 wide. He does, or didn't, know how to handle grip tires like these. Based on his previous week at SIR he tried treating the NT01's as stock tires and crashed.
cant believe this happened this guy always get crazy at the track this time he finally lost control last time i was watching him race he almost did the same thing but pulled out ... he said this was his first time with slicks and did not heat them up enough is what he was saying he has to much money to spend im sure he will get tit fixed soon
Easy ther xHellogan. Why so angry? I've only seen behavior like yours from places you accuse me of being from. Chill. And in my opinion handling is best reflected by track (road course times), skid pad and pilon tests. That's what I meant. In my opinion the Miata is not a masculine car. Sorry that this upsets you so much. If your a real man it shouldn't matter what I think. Respond only if you can manage to do so in a civilized way please.
I car has a Custom tune, Long Tubes, Borla Exhaust and a Cold Air Intake. Dyno'd around 485 to the wheels. SIR does not use traction compound on their street leagal nights so high HP cars always have an issue with traction!
Don't think its the drivers fault all the time JACKASS'S I've seen pro's hit the wall too. So for all the haters out there.
Generally when a pro car (ie: top fuel, pro mod, pro stock) hits the wall, it's a result of something incredibly unexpected or a drivetrain/tire/suspension failure, not because they didn't get out of the throttle when they should have.....
This is SIR, That not questionable. Look & listen closey, he never lets off, doesnt feather the gas and goes hard through the gears. What a Knob. Probably had traction control off as well, which wouldnt help an amature. Another example of an idiot with too much cash, a car that gives a false sense of driver ability and not enough brains. ON THE PLUS side. I give him credit for racing it at SIR and not on the street. So at least he has a semblance of a brain, not much of one, just a bit.
Plus, everyone should know that SIR is a dragstrip in Saskatchewan Canada. The track switches from concrete to pavement where the Z06 loses it. Not the best strip but we're lucky to have it.
Valid point but I don't think that's what caused his problem. He was having traction issues right off the line for the first few hundred feet which is concrete. Concrete or asphalt, the car is making huge hp for street tires and he was spinning hard. I think he simply kept his foot in it too long rather than getting out of it and saving it for another day. Lesson learned hopefully.
Sorry MurJojoskates, with an experienced driver at the wheel no Miata will beat a Z06 on a track. If yours is modified to a level that can challenge a Z06 shut up and post some video or track times on a known course so we can compare. Miata, LOL, where I'm from only chicks drive Miatas.
Are you a giant dickfactory or something? The question was "what handles better" not "can you beat a" so track times don't factor in at all. Are you from some backwoods incestuous cesspool of a hicktown? Last time I checked there aren't "chick cars" or "male cars". You can mod Miatas to both look and perform great.
Please post a list of cars that handle better than the c6 Z06 and their associated prices. Come on you can dog the driver, but you can't dog that car when it comes to handling.
Hard to say, it goes so fast. Right where he lost it is the end of the concrete pad, and the day was very cool so I imagine the track was very slick. He's been there before, but I think it was the car's first time on those tires. Even MY car will break loose right there shifting into second gear, but because it's a posi, it stays going more or less straight. :) But if anyone ever whines about tech inspection and required safety equipment - THIS IS WHY! :-)
if you have posi and it breaks loose you wont keep going straight youll slide sideways. if you have an open diff youll keep going straight because only 1 wheel would be spinning
I'll be the first to say I know nothing about computers on cars, but I dont care how smart a computer is, you gotta be able to feel what your car is doing. If you cant tell its spinning, you've got problems and obviously he did. As far as I know traction compound is meant for slicks, not radial tires. I agreee it was probably slick but I bet he was the only one to do this all night. Just a hunch!
The first time he was out he had goodyears and would spin 3/4 track, no matter what gear he left in. This time he had the Nitto Slicks, and he said that this pass it hooked up the best as it didn't spin off the line. He said it started spinning RIGHT when he shifted into 3rd which was right where the concrete ends and the pavement starts.
Put the video in High Quality and full screen, you can clearly see that he put the brakes on.
First of all, he spun out of the hole big time. You can hear the tires screeching very clearly. Secondly, he wasn't even close to shifting it into 3rd gear. He had a long way to go before 2nd gear was finished. Sucks that he wrecked though.
Actually two things to consider....1) This is a street legal event - NO TRACTION COMPOUND is put down on the track on these "fun nights". and 2) The newer cars are computer controlled throttle...the car thought it was smart by keeping the gas applied when it detected spinning so as not to flip the car. From what I was told, he WAS off the gas and on the brakes. Computers can't know everything. :)
Another asshole in a Corvette. Um excuse me sir, you have driven past the prestage and stage lights could you back up a little so we could start the race. Here's a little hint, when your only going 40 mph and revs are higher than 6 grand. YOU DONT HAVE ANY TRACTION. Let off the gas. The same thing happened in Hanna,AB a few weeks ago at 1/8 mile drags. He was lucky enough that there was no guardrail. They kicked him out for being an idiot.
You never and I mean never completely turn off your stability control on the 1/4 mile strip! You turn the traction control off but not the stability control. Competitive driving mode buddy, it's a corvette owners best friend on the strip. This is what can happen with it completely off. Don't worry. Obviously money means nothing to that guy. He probably didn't even care.

boys and girls do you know what type of activity isn't covered at all by your insurance policy?
That's right children, OFF ROAD USE such as taking your car to a 1/4 mile track or other such race track!
in other words kids, IT ROYALLY SUCKS TO BE THAT DOUCHE BAG ABOUT RIGHT NOW.

@ blackhorsedesign - If he was on the brakes, don't you think you'd see brake lights?

Hard to say, it goes so fast. Right where he lost it is the end of the concrete pad, and the day was very cool so I imagine the track was very slick. He's been there before, but I think it was the car's first time on those tires. Even MY car will break loose right there shifting into second gear, but because it's a posi, it stays going more or less straight. :) But if anyone ever whines about tech inspection and required safety equipment - THIS IS WHY! :-)
blackhorsedesign 2 years ago
if you have posi and it breaks loose you wont keep going straight youll slide sideways. if you have an open diff youll keep going straight because only 1 wheel would be spinning

look really closely, the brake lights DO come on

RockBanddrummer2009 2 years ago
First of all, he spun out of the hole big time. You can hear the tires screeching very clearly. Secondly, he wasn't even close to shifting it into 3rd gear. He had a long way to go before 2nd gear was finished. Sucks that he wrecked though.

Driver actually said he was in 3rd gear.

Its a good thing the car in the right lane was faster or else 2 cars could have been involved
