Not quite true. X and many Japanese bands ALWAYS used partially recorded back ground tracks, especially on live tv but they even did it in live concerts. However, they are actually playing. The solos are real, the singing is real, ect... They are just playing on top of it.

You're right, Pata's hair is still red. It's gotta be somewhere around 89-91, 'cause that's their look during the PV's promoting the Blue Blood singles before Jealousy. But it's not the look they toured with during 89, so...

Anyway, I consider everything before 1987 to be "old" X, 1987-1992 to be mid, and 1992-1997 to be late.
