Curiosity led me to read some of the comments below. So I watched this vid three or four times to try and gauge what it is people see in Linda Thorson. OK, reasonable-looking, but kinda standard I'd say. Somewhat fleshy compared to her predecessors and, well, a little girl-next-door and mumsy. Nothing wrong with that of course but I just don't see the attraction. In her own way a nice girl no doubt, but in no way does she rank alongside Honor Blackman or Diana Rigg.
@madmax8903 Linda Thorson may not be as sexy as Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg, but she was good-looking in an attainable way. Women (and, certainly, men) seem to prefer the unattainable standards of beauty (look at such modern Barbie Dolls as Heidi Montag), and that's why we have problems such as eating disorders, low self-esteem among girls and women, and an insane obsession over cosmetic surgery. Beauty doesn't have to be this way.
Linda Thorson looks a little clumsy and awkward to me, in contrast to the incomparable Ms Rigg. Ah, now there was an actress! And what a beautiful woman! I'm sorry, but imo it's like replacing Bardot with Nora Batty.
This show's entire theme was subliminal reptilian shapeshifting. In every episode they are constantly shapeshifting their eyes and skin to reveal the Biggest Secret: The reptilians are here and apparently in full control of our world. They must be amazed that more people don't get it after 40 years. Since they were so openly revealing themselves, I doubt they mind my mentioning it. For the most obvious evidence watch "Legacy of Death". They are beating you over the head with it in this episode!
From the original "The Avengers" (1961-1969), the actresses who played Steed's partners were: Ingrid Hafner (1961), Honor Blackman (1962-1964), Diana Rigg (1965-1968) and Linda Thorson (1968-1969).
Lacks the wit and sexual chemistry of the `67 opening sequence with Mrs Peel. After experiencing Emma in leather, everything else is a let down! but glad Linda seems to have her fans too.
The Thorson stories were quite good, but she was judged too much against Diana Rigg. However, she wanted to move away from the leather and boots look and make her own mark on the series. The one where she has the fight with Penelope Keith and I think Jimmy Jewell plays a killer clown is very good.
Yep, you have got some of THE best episodes ever. Linda Thorson was very different but given her very young age and such an monumental show, I think her work more than stands the test of time and will continue to shine. And she was absolutely stunning looking with an accent to die for.
Unfornately, due to everything the went on behind the scenes. The Tara King never reached the consistent level of greatness that the Emma Peel era enjoyed, but it was still awesome. If they had just kept that Avenger's flavor that was in "Forget Me Knot" & "GAME" (though Game is my all time fav, even over any of the Emma Peel episodes) as well keep this original intro (liked the ones used, but this was better, espeically the ending credits, my fav also), it would have been a different story.
@bjroberts65 And Canadian, too. She was born in Toronto, but studied dance in London, England. I think she's prettier than Diana Rigg, aka Emma Peel (not that she's a dog) - and, look at those legs! (I'm a girl and, although I'm heterosexual, I make certain judgments on women's looks.)
I feel bad for Linda Thorson. Following Diana Rigg was really a no-win situation. Emma Peel was an ICON by the time she left and beloved. It's not like when Kelly Ripa following Kathy Lee Gifford as Regis Philbin's co-host! The problem with Tara King was while Emma Peel was a trend-setter, Tara kind of followed the trends of the time.
Also poor old Linda had her hair dyed, then her hair fell out, hence all the wigs.Think Cathy and Emma were great,Tara more vulnerable but she was good too.
It is very very true. Linda did a great job as Steed's sidekick but she was not as great as Diana Rigg. It is like replacing Phil Jackson with Tim Floyd when the former left the Chicago Bulls as their head coach.
I loved The Avenagers series. I missed that program so much. It was fun to watched it. I loved them all, Patrick Mackee, Diana Rigg and Linda Thorson. Diana Rigg was only orgrinal in the Avenagers series before Linda Thorson to take her place. They are still around and look great in today. Go Avenagers !
As much as I enjoyed watching Diana Rigg as Emma Peel and Linda Thornson as Tara King neither were a patch on Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale and still stunning in her eighties
Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale was incredible. A hard act to follow! But fortunately we got Diana Rigg, Linda Thorson, and Joanna Lumley, all fabulous ladies as well.
@moorlock2003 Also, what a lot of people did not know is that Honor Blackman(Pussy Galore from Goldfinger)was the first Female sidekick on The Avengers.
If Linda Thorson had been Patrick MacNee's sole partner, she would be remembered much more fondly today. However, she had to replace, not just a stunning creature, but an excellent actress to boot. While Linda was extremely attractive and a good actress in her own right, she just wasn't Diana Rigg. That's not a crime, IMO.
I can vaguely remember seeing her episodes when I was still in a crib on ABC during the late '60s, but I really started watching "The Avengers" on WOR during the '70s. Excellent show.
I guessed it depends on who you grew up watching, I also grew up watching Linda, so when the episodes with Diana came aired, I thought she was the replacement!
Thorson wasn't bad at all (wasn't she Canadian?); and the best written episodes were the late ones, but who can follow Dianna Rigg? Uma Thurman??? HONESTLY, RON!
Unfortunately they haven't released a Region 2 box set yet (to my knowledge) in English. I've got the french set, which has the suits of armour titles with "Chapeau melon" and the story titles in french, but with english sound as an option?!?!?
@bmorsette - These titles were made for the first batch of Tara King episodes when they were broadcast in America before the suit of armour titles were made. The UK transmissions only had the armour titles though the episode Split! accidentally had these.
I wish that they had decided to use these titles for the series

@MrChickybee1
And that's why they chose to have Mrs.Peel in the 1998 remake? Exactly.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but Mrs Peel is wit out doubt the most popular.

I'll take Rigg or Thorson over Bakcman who was a bit too restrained. But then, the show was "darker" then and less imaginative.
I'll also take this intro over the one they later did ourdoors with the scarecrows and such.

I don't know why i thought they were scarecrows- I guess I found them scarey as a kid. But, of course, they are knights.
