  • haha, cultural-unique, korea! Korean would say, all of world belongs to Korea

  • Kaufmann is businessman

  • Steve is amazing guy!

  • How do you know that canadians are more likely to say that immigrants should conform to the dominant culture than americans?...

  • @ubny1 opinion polls

  • There aren't more mosques than churches in England...

  • @MrOregona230 I think he said there are more new mosques being built than new churches.

  • Steve, one more comment. I always tell my students the very thing you said about it being the learner's responsibility when learning a language. I tell them that I can't teach them anything. I also let them know that they're not going to learn it in class, because there is so much work to be done outside of class. They expect some marvelous teacher or method to come along and solve everything. Not gonna happen.

  • @Iceland1944 Right on!

  • Steve, I saw your video interview in Chinese. Bravo! I have stayed away from Asian languages. They tend to scare me. Should I have this fear? What is the most difficult feature in Mandarin or Cantonese? Thanks.

  • @Iceland1944 The biggest difficulties of Mandarin and Chinese are the writing system and the tones. On the other hand the grammar is very easy, and the way words are formed is very efficient and so it is easy to build on the words you already know in order to learn new words. Go for it! Learning Chinese grows on you. Just don't let yourself get frustrated, and that is true in learning any language.

  • @lingosteve Thanks, Steve. I just might tackle the Chinese. I am currently brushing up on my Russian. I took it back in college. My first professor was wonderful, and I would have continued, but he went on sabbatical and was replaced in the 2nd year of my studies by an Indian woman who was one of the worst teachers. I lost all motivation and dropped the course. Now, after some 20 years, I am picking it back up again on my own. Well, I learned Polish on my own, so this won't be too bad.
