Yousou, your music is good very good...but this world bank thing tarnishes everything...as an african, i believe world bank is the last thing i would like to sing for. Watch "life and debt" fire burn world bank
ongojo, i am with you on this. our talented artists have to know whom to support.
Back in l981 i wrote a letter to itzhak perlman the violinist...he played in a huge concert for Ronald Reagan and Reagan htad cut subsidies to profoundly handicapped people. we need to make artists aware that they have the influence to create better policies when the politicians show they dont care.
If you are caught up in the tentacles of the oppressors like the world bank and IMFand little room to wiggle then smart people like Youssou Ndour must use the oppressor podium to send subliminal messages through music and art to penerate the minds and hearts of the oppressed. Youssou has reminded the oppressor that the Africa that is full of diseases, war, famine Human degradation and poverty is becoming extinct and must be replaced with the new Africa with positive images..Yes we can!!!
Loans are granted to Pakistan but are not monitored/audited to see the completion of the project they are sanctioned for. Pakistani ruling class & govt departments eventually eat up the entire sum. Are these loans granted to promote hypocrisy, gradually leading to fake inflation, injustice & poverty? The end result nowadays is reaction in the form of suicide bombing & destruction due to the problems mentioned. Kalabagh Dam & many projects are just a dream due to this attitude of IMF & World Bank
