I believe I have that same ukulele (Kamaka Pineapple with the gold label inside) and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or how much its worth? Thank you and lovely song as well
does a pineapple shape ukulele sound different than a regular shaped one? cuz im interested to start learning and i dont know what soprano i should get first
@whomenoyou1ol : The most important factor that affects sound is the kind of wood it's made from -- koa is warm, mahogany is mellow, spruce is bright, etc. The pineapple shape does affect the sound a bit too. I think it's louder and has more low tones than a traditional figure-8 shape made from the same material. If you can, try testing different kinds and see which one appeals to you most. Thanks and good luck!
Great stuff. I'm picking up the ukulele again after a few years of neglect, and I was curious what that "pad" you're resting the uke on is all about. Does it prevent slipping? What's it made of? Seems like I've seen a couple of other players using something similar. Thanks.
Hi and thanks! Yes, I use that folded cloth to keep the ukulele from slipping. Some of my ukes (like this one) are so light that it's a challenge to keep them in place and I don't like clamping the soundboard too much with my forearm since it chokes the sound. I use some of that "sticky" fabric you put under a hall rug to keep it from slipping and sliding. You can get it @ Home depot, cut to size and it will last forever. Cheers!
Thanks! No, not my thumbnail. I'm using the nail of my index finger. I hold my thumb up against my finger to help brace it, so it sort of looks like I'm holding a pick. I'm basically strumming up and down with the nail as if it were a pick.
Can I ask if you have the music for this? It's such a lovely tune and I'd love to play it! I'm getting my first Ukulele today (Probably a Soprano) Does it matter how you have it tuned?
Hi Talaayn. No, sorry, I don't have music for this -- I sort of picked it up listening to recordings and other vids. Congrats on your ukulele!! Let me know if I can give you any help. The most common tuning for ukulele is GCEA (like the four highest strings of a guitar barred at the 5th fret). The uke in this video is tuned higher (ADF#B). This was a common tuning back in the 20's and 30's. It's rarer today, but many prefer it. Experiment and see what sounds best to you! Good luck!
Hey Bob! It's Kristen, the girl who bought your ukulele last month.
I just wanted to let you know that I fiiinally posted a video of me practicing. (Remember how I told you that I would put my first song on youtube so you could see? I'm a lady of my word.) It's pretty terrible, but I promise I'll post more recent things when I have time!
No, no pick-up or amplification used. I'm just using the mic on my little Olympus camera. I think it makes the sound more treble than it is in reality. I need a better microphone.
I wonder how a ukelele would sound made out of a real pineapple. probably pretty crappy. maybe a coconut? i think it would be a sweet experiment. fabulous playing man.
Actually, I find it much easier than the guitar. I played guitar for several years and developed serious hand pain (tendonitis) and had to stop. After 10 years of not playing anything I found the ukulele and have never looked back. The uke I'm playing here is a soprano, which is quite small for my fingers. There are larger-scale ukes (concert, tenor) that many guitar players find more comfortable. Best regards.
awesome, good sound¡¡¡¡
