there is also the potential for nuclear FUSION (not nuclear fission) which is how the sun produces energy
i am starting to think fusion is a pipe dream. we have been working toward this goal since the 1950s and we haven't come up with anything yet. the pressure and heat needed to start the process of fusion is more energy intensive than the energy created by the fusion. the sun has an advantage of being much more massive and hot than earth, that is why it can be done efficiently there.
