Depends on where you live of course as to whether this will meet your energy needs. I'd like to get one of these put on our roof here in Japan. Hopefully we can sell excess electricity just like with solar. Such would be unthinkable in the US, but it makes obvious sense if you want to promote safe energy. Sorry folks, we don't have much other choice considering the insane risk of putting nuclear plants in an earthquake minefield.

shame these type of turbines dont stop birds flying into them, and need to rotate to catch the wind from different directions

I can think why this type of turbine cought on when vertical turbines would be much more efficient

@vodkablond While VAWTS do have some advantages they are actually less efficient due to the fact that they are always dragging a blade back up wind. They don't really shine unless they are in a turbulent location with rapid changes in wind direction.
