i loved playing this :D the 6 weeks we had to build our robot were intense i have one of the vids from our San Diego regional on my channel :D this was so much fun i learned alot from it and everyone should join first in highschool
im on 69 from Quincy. we were semifinalists at boston. we had a really good chance of winning but our chain broke in every single match in the elimination round, and we choose bad teams for our alliance.
We are actually an entirely new team, with members from two rival high schools. The school mascots are the lion (Newton South) and tiger (Newton North), hence "Ligerbots".
anyway, Boston was fun and I just got back from Hartford CT, which was also fun! we have 4 shiny trophies, including Highest Rookie Seed at both and Rookie Allstars at Boston :D
I don't agree with the methodology of this competition. Why have so much human participation; when you could put a greater emphasis on the robots you've spent time constructing and not on "human interference". However, I do see how it gives more oppertunity for more people to join in.
955 Crescent Valley High School Robotics. Our hot wheel is a max dimensioned out (in everyway, 26X36X60 119.5lb) 4 CIMed 4 wheel drive with a ShotGun Revovler on top. =) see you at the national, folks. =)
This is a hard but interesting challenge. It looks like it will be fun but a tough engineering challenge. I am looking forward to being at the competition. I will be there with team 1073. See you all at the competition. Good Luck.
I actually like the game, because it challenges teams in entirely different ways than in previous years. I think that's kind of the point, to make it a "level playing field" every year for new teams by screwing up conventions.
I have to make our robot automated AND manual? Now I have to deal with camera function along with the basics. Ooh, but the concept of shooting "rocks" into baskets puts pneumatic awesomeness in my head.
Man, this years competition is very different from last years. I can't wait! Thanks to whomever put this video up, I was not going to wait an hour for my internet to download from the FIRST website. This will be an interesting year. Good luck everyone! (Team 2187)
Yeah. I wish I was still in High School too. I think the game has some interesting challenges and that the slippery floor will make for some very interesting robot designs. I am pretty mad about limiting you to the starting dimensions though. It's going to limit teams a lot more than I think is wise.
i think this game's way too simplistic, but the fact that my team can't come up with a decent robot idea kinda tells me that this is going to be alot harder than i thought. Good luck to everyone!
Not only am I the A) Only programmer for the team B) Only 4th year member of the team this year, but C) We have to deal with the new control system ON TOP OF LOW FRICTION!?
I have to say I've been doing this for 8 years I'm really unexcited about this game.I think there are too few things to do and that they're treating the smooth floor as an engineering challenge when in reality it is mostly a limitation. I also think that limiting robots to stay within starting dimensions will really hurt teams creativity. Essentially I think this will end up a slow paced game where simple uninteresting mechanisms rule. (A trend of which FIRST has followed since raising the bar).
My team had gathered together to watch the live stream of the animation, but the internet went down during the animation, and the whole taem missed it :(
So I figured I'd add this to youtube for easier access :)
And as for the game, I personally find it more interesting than last years (though last year was a blast as well!).
I wonder what the referees are going to do. Seems like there aren't any ways to get penalties.
This game was a Human player's dream, it must've been so much fun

2877 ligerbots was good for rookie. luv their mascot. XD

Robovikes won two awards, one being the website award.
The ligerbots were two older teams that merged together I believe, but I could be wrong. Either way, they were very good :D

Winning teams were:
- 61 (Shifters)
- 190 (Gompei and the H.E.R.D.)
- 1099 (Lions)
They defeated the number one alliance.

As the competitions start, teams will figure out how valuable their robots will become.
But you are right, the first few regionals will be heavily "human player dependent."
BloodElvs 2 years ago
The robots control where the humans shoot. Being able to minimize the HP's impact on the game is one of the keys to winning.

where did you see the rule for limiting robots to stay in their starting dimensions? Is that something I missed?

Seriously though, this is terrifying. They kept making the games harder in some areas and easier in others...and now there's this.
Alumni of team 263, and I'm really clueless as to how we'll go about playing this one.
I may not be allowed to build, but I can bloody well make suggestions! :D
