  • I'm honored just to share his last name. Totally awesome

  • Haha, I GET IT. IT'S A MACHINE NOT A MAN.

  • jesus christ, dat polyrythm

  • OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG My jaw dropped 5 times

  • I play along with the skin flute.

  • danny carey is god. just saw Tool in Toledo and that is my assertion.

  • Danny Carey Beats Chuck Norris.

  • can someone explain the sticking at the beginning of the video?

  • @PacisVictus Its a right hand lead swiss triplet. If you can't find it on the internet... Its RRL RRL RRL RRL RRL RRL RRL. Then double the L so the second left stroke is playing at the same time or just before (a flam) the first R (right hand stroke) of each group of three. At the beginning of the video he starts with the 2 right handed triplets and quietly adds in the Left handed triplets after about 10 or so seconds. Then he just moves around the kit with that same sticking.

  • @MrDrums8 Good breakdown. The way I learned is I got the swiss, then I matched the bass beat up with the right hand playing doubles and ignored the swiss till I got that. Then I added the hats and when that came through, I started practicing with the swiss over it all. Moving around the kit is the next step!

  • Raw fucking talent. My jaw was on the floor the entire video. This man is legendary.

  • Mother of god.

  • 2 people are bitter because they couldn't be there in real life.

  • Justin Beiber

    Very Easy

    Easy

    Medium

    Hard

    Chuck Norris

    ASIAN

    Danny Carey

    Me! hahahahaha. Just Kidding!

  • are those swiss triplets he's playing at the beginning between the tom and snare?

  • @cheaptrades Yes

  • Tool would eat lamb of god for breakfast and shit out a slipknot!

  • @BuffaloStylez

I agree even though I like the two you mentioned and LOVE Tool!

  • Even Jesus is like Damn!

  • god i need to work on my independence

  • Danny is a rare talent, his timing and control are second to none...

  • Any more badass, and Danny would be a Jedi.

  • @PaulWykel Ok. And now keep the rythm, control intensity, tune your drums right on and put your soul into it to maybe...perhaps play a semi-version of this :p

  • the greatest person to hit skins since the angel gabriel.

  • amazing time keeping.

  • My favorite drummer. And he happens to be from my favorite band. =D

  • @PaulWykel Well, I see why you think that, but look closely. Can you see what he's doing? He's playing three kinds of triplets at once: a 4/4 shuffle pattern in his hands, a 6/8 on the kick and a 3/4 on the hi-hat. It requires a very, very great deal of skill to come up with it and play it too.

  • @timmotjo17 i agree : ]

  • Although i agree with djmarkj22, he forgot Chad Sexton and Carter Beuford. Both equally as talented, yet completely different styles between the 3 of them. Thos 3 are the greatest around right now.

  • How in the hell has he created an entire library or awesome polyrhythms, grooves, etc???? This guy is inspired.

  • this is is the best i mean whoa he is amazing i seen tool twice and he is the best drummer in the business today....

  • holy shit this should get recognised world wide, the most creative and difficult piece on the drums ive ever heard, and the double bass is quite fast as well. but the thing im amazed with is the sticking on the toms with the double bass and his amazing limb independance

  • @iWentToNam I wouldn't agree with that, and Tool does get recognised worldwide...

  • @ryder187mac no what im trying to say is, when i look up top drummers lists and stuff, people always include the lateralus drum vid he did where he was actually on tv, im trying to say i want every1 who thinks mike portnoy or neil peart should see this cause fuck me this is hard to pull off, but even more so, he created it

  • @iWentToNam It's a single rudiment.. I get what you're saying though. Yes, that Lateralus vid isn't all that great

  • @ryder187mac I just think this simply is more skilled than any drummer. his limb independance is not human i swear, and listen to pushit live on salival. it has a table solo that is like WTF! impossilbe stuff. not to mention danny remembers every odd fill he does

  • this guy eats little pissant "blink 182" type drummers as a snack.....or maybe i should just come out and say it.... he eats travis barker as a snack, there ya go.

  • i can´t even play this on imaginary drums...

  • @Cayenne3470 DANNY CAREY is for ABOVE that guy !!!!

  • once Tool entered my ears, i couldnt take any other band seriously.

  • @paisteuser06 It was exactly the same thing for me too. Sometimes I set my standards way to high for other bands, forgetting that they are not anywhere near the skill level of Tool.

  • I mean this seriously, this has to be unrecognised as one one of the greatest live drum performances; the dexterity, precision and consistency puts it easily up there with people who are famous for solos: Peart, Bonham, Cobham, Portnoy, Baker, etc...

  • the very first time i tripped on acid (which was either some of the best i ever got, or it was simply so perception-shattering because it was my trip), i rode the guitar when it came in. i will never forget that day. ever. lateralus must have played all the way through about 6 times, and every time was more amazing than the last.

  • @defsownds first trip*

  • man, tool is so bad ass. danny carey is bad ass.

  • dannycarey.holyshitballs

  • Holy

    Shit.

  • SOS MI IDOLO DANY, LO QUE ME TRANSMITIS CON TU MUSICA ES INCOMPARABLE! GRACIAS POR EXISTIR Y HACER FELIZ A LA GENTE QUE SABE APRECIAR TU ARTE!!

  • The two people who disliked this video are Dumbfounded dipshits!

  • @yvonnecmc fail, no1 gives a fuck about who disliked it, except for 10 year olds who love to make jokes about the dislike bar. so just fuck off

  • JESUS CHRIST! holy fuck. i now have no doubt that there is absolutly NO1 who is better than DC :)

  • The pixelization makes it hard to tell....but I'm pretty sure he had a huge shit eating grin on his face that whole time.

  • @foobee2 dannycarey . org has better footage of this, which is where it's from actually, lol. Cheers to dc & the uploader of this! -:o)

  • look at is biceps! omfg!

  • one Person is Lady Gaga Fan... "the best drummer is my computer!" .

    this is culture, no commerz!

  • WHY IS HE SO GOOD?! WHY?!!! If i cant learn to play the way he plays, I QUIT!

  • @FunkDawg96 No no no, that's not right. Yes, he is an awesome drummer, that we all agree to, BUT, you really shouldn't blame yourself for not having his level of drumming. He got that level of awesome because he practiced, and if you practice, you can also become that great. Don't throw in the towel because you believe someone's better than you.

  • thumbs up if at 3:21 you experienced an eargasm like no other while simultaneously crapping yourself from overwhelming amounts of pure awesomeness

  • Those Bronze drums are beyond amazing

  • Every time Danny Carey drums a demon gets his wings.

  • For the first part of this beat @ 0:45 he is playing doubles on each hand in a 3 beat bar I guess you could say. Easier said than done!

  • @ironDsteele a swiss trip with a leading left hand.

  • Danny Carey is the top 3 drummers of all time. All 3 of them. Like so:

    1. Danny Carey

    2. Danny Carey

    3. Danny Carey

  • @LeonSKennedy515 4. Ringo Starr

  • @LeonSKennedy515 what about buddy rich and dave weckl...i know there jazz drummers but they both play a mean drum solo...and i mean no disrespect to danny carey but these two guys did it before him...

  • @LeonSKennedy515 Hey, wait a minute! Danny Carey is miles better than Danny Carey!

  • i love how he builds the beat from the start, sounds epic.... like pretty much everything else he does. I wouldn't mind trying to get that intro beat down for myself though

  • For you guys asking, I saw it on his personal website. I'm not sure if it is still there; I haven't visited the site in over one year. He thinks he is Thor or something also. Judging by his arms, maybe he is lol.

  • I got to kick it with Danny Carey on my birthday. The single greatest memory of my life. He is such a nice human being. If you're in L.A. Go see Volto at the Baked Potato. Hearing his drums from 5 feet away was like being in a Dream :)

  • @cradleofrobert good call there broski, if there was something in seattle spectacular id hook you up but we haven't produced a musician in the same league as Danny Carey since Jimi H. now all i hear is dubstep and pretty soon people are going to start getting hit!

  • Whoever was the one person who disliked this vid has to do a drum battle with DC. Sorry but it's the rules...

  • After 1:20..it sounds like a riff similar to - the grudge

  • listen closely to the backround maynard beatboxing to him for him. Marking the time for us. naby aan die bas.

  • HE grouped the beats and then played peats with the beats.

  • so fucking majestic

  • i always like when people bash carey in favor of other... while skilled drummers, not knocking them, but they like to dismiss danny for not having technicality but he is more creative than a lot of drummers with "better" chops. that is what counts, the creative mind and how it incoperates a kit into the mix, not just what you can physically do to "show off". Can't think of many drummers who could create what danny has, and he has made quite the library of amazing beats and rhythms...cheers dan

  • his body just flows.

  • I dislike that 1 guy more than he could ever dislike Danny Carey!

  • I remember a girl tried to tell me one night that travis from blink182 was prob the most amazing drummer ''out there'' at the moment. I should have punched her in the face but i was too busy getting sick. Fuckin idiot!

  • @rorykava should never punch girls

  • True master of polyrhythm

  • @LVILLuminati Try Mike Mangini for polyrythm.

  • All music should have this skill!!

  • brb, gotta go change my pants...

  • The Greatest!!! And an amazing album and tour in support.

  • Danny Carey was here before the Creation...

  • @Fourchette22 He is the creation, he was born from pure ingenuity. He transcends time and space every time he touches a drum kit, let alone grace my ears with his clear talent. If there is any such "superior being", Danny is that being. Now obviously it is ridiculous to think this from any one human being, but that's just the feeling I get when I listen to Danny, and most certainly Tool. I also jizz my pants..

  • dude, that fill at 3:21-3:24 is fucking insane....

  • This is art and heart

  • You wanna see control, just watch the f*ckin high hat. Completely unreal. Hope I can say with without sounding like a fucking fanboy, but this dude is immortal.

  • sick tunes mate sick tunes

  • all hail danny carey!!!

  • I could watch that fill at 3:21 all day long. it always makes me grin!

  • @sludgecraft I couldn't agree more, sound like tripping over yourself.

  • its just technique and its called paraddidles

  • @riaj1982 rudiments*

  • This man has multiple invisible arms.

  • just 3 words fellas danny carey style !!!!!!!!!!its unique

  • How come I never saw them on Saturday Night Live before this?

  • cool i guess

  • That was fucking horrible. The only part that was good was from 0:00 to 4:01 and part 2.

  • my FAVORITE :)

  • Wonderous.

  • This is just SO good. !!!! I hope I get to see them sometime, but won't hold my breath.

  • Yeah, he wasn't born with it. He has played since he was 12 or 13, went to college and learned there, sought tutors in specific methods of rhythm and practiced his butt off. And of course he astrally projected himself to the stars and placed a drum on different stars and was told to play a specific rhythm which opened up a portal from hell and let Paimon enter him and Paimon plays the rhythms for him. If you think that is crazy fine, but it came from his website.

  • @flatlandsapex I know what you mean, and it's actually spot on. Good work.

  • @flatlandsapex Who or what the fuck is Paimon?

  • @killerproctologist

if you don't know things....google them

  • @killerproctologist One of the kings of Hell.

  • @flatlandsapex he started playing for his school when he was 10. So he is claiming to be under the direct influence of demonic forces while he plays. this can only mean 1 of 3 things. 1) Paimon is in fact enlightening danny on how/what to play. 2) danny is suffering from a drug related reaction and his brain and is oddly chemically imbalanced making him mildly insane or 3) he is full of complete shit. and to be honest, i don't know which of the 3 i find more disapointing =/

  • @killerproctologist when did he say that? because i never heard that one before.

  • @pyromatic77 ask flatlandspacex. he claims to have read the qoute on his website. i've tried finding it but i can't seem to. judging by what i've discovered about him, it would not suprise me.

  • @flatlandsapex could you link me to where he says that?

  • @flatlandsapex Would you at all mind sending me the link to that, I honestly can not find it anywhere.

  • :50

    FUCK YEAR SWISS ARMY TRIPLETS.

  • Good work, Paimon.

  • Ah-ha! So THIS is the result of decades of practice on poly-rhythmic subdivisions. Well worth the effort :)

  • This goes to show you that the best drummers aren't the ones who simply mash on the double bass pedal a million miles an hour. This guy is one of the most creative drummers I have ever seen and he shines in this song.

  • @dmarkj22 I totally agree, take a guy like Nicko Mcbrain, (Iron Maiden) He plays a single bass drum, single pedal and plays with his barefeet! And he can do massive bass drum fills.

  • @dmarkj22 just because a drummer goes "a million miles an hour on double bass" doesn't meant they are not creative.

  • @dmarkj22 100% Agree

  • @dmarkj22 Amen.

  • Anybody know the sticking between the 8" and the snare near the beginning? It's fucking crazy.

  • This is hypnotizing.

  • SACRED GEOMETRY AND OCCULTICS

  • THEESE*

  • THIS VIDEOS ARE ON DANNY'S WEB SITE

  • Retarded. That is all.

  • i love how you hear justin chiggin away......so fuckin badass.

  • Greatest drummer ever.

  • WTF!

  • 49 year old badass alien! DC you friggin rock!

  • Danny's best drum track, nothing compares to complete creativity that is Triad.

  • @xReinhartx Uhm, have you listened to Third Eye? In terms of creativity the drumming on that song dominates this.

  • @ryanbeatbox Well, I mainly only said that because this is my personal favorite.

  • @xReinhartx Sorry man, I read your comment wrong. I guess the song is irrelevant anyway, tool's message and all of their songs are badass... my bad for even questioning - I'm just glad there's another tool fan!

  • @ryanbeatbox It's alright man lol, no need to apologize. Haha, fuck yeah man, by far my favorite of all time.

  • CONFUSIOUS SAY:TO PLAY LIKE DANNY CAREY ONE MUST STUDY

"FOUR WAY COORDINATION", CYCLICAL TIME/TABLA AND THE BILLY COBHAM CATALOGUE.LEARN WELL AND APPLY THROUGH THE HIGHER MIND.

  • @4DPositive i have four way coordination and it's very good... might i suggest also advanced techniques for the modern drummer as applied to be-bop and jazz by jim chapin and new breed by gary chester. those 2 books paired with four way coordination will do ALOT for your drumming ability. simply the best books if you would like to play the style of carey... of course, the creativity part is something you simply can't read a book about. that comes within.

  • My eyes... has anyone seen my friggin eyeballs...? wait... shit I'm deaf too.

  • If you pause at the right time, you should be able to notice that he has four extra arms playing the beat at the same time.

  • @Hyperboi4evr ahahaha did it classic

  • @Hyperboi4evr Goro couldnt keep up with him lol

  • @Hyperboi4evr Because he's really an octopus. I've done research. he uses 5 arms to drum, 1 to smoke a cigar, 1 to drink scotch, and the other to masturbate.

  • @Hyperboi4evr wait i pause it i didnt see four arms, i saw five arms

  • ah...jizzm

  • this guy is almost 50 man, look at him go!!!!!!!!!

  • Every time I watch this, I think of Steve Reich. Just saying.

  • @ClarkKasheta

    Mind = Blown.

  • awesome, polyrythm,

  • Happy Birthday Danny Carey

  • happy birthday mr carey!!!!!!

  • i'd like to see lars ulrich try and play this.

  • so unreal, danny is such a beast. his ability to turn the drums from simply a rhythmic instrument to a musical instrument is unparalleled. triad is such a great song, too (or third movement of an entire composition, if you want to look at it as one along with disposition and reflection)

I'll be seeing Tool in St. Paul, Minnesota on the first of July, hell yeah...so pumped!

  • his drumming is otherworldly i definitely always think what the fuck did i just watch after Danny Carey plays its just not human

  • I was so amazed and baffled... then the video just ended out of nowhere. Dammit.

  • studnub, I hope your right that would kick ass if they did.

  • I can't wait to see them live this summer, i heard that they are going to do disposition, reflection, triad live which would be awesome

  • I might start a new religion :D In wich Danny would act as God... Dunno how it's gonna be called... I was thinking about something like " Awesomenism "... Maybe "Ass-Kicking-Ism ? " :O !!

  • HOLY EFF!

  • is this from a drum clinic or is this a live recording?

  • My good friend met Danny in Silverlake last year and did not even know who he was. He was later told by another individual that he had just drank a beer with one of the Greatest Drummers to have ever walked this earth. Lucky Bastard!

  • omg!

  • 3:22 awesome

  • somebody gave him an unique drug into his body when he started to play drums :)

  • 6 to 8 hours a day? yea ok boss good luck pulling that off

  • wow... till now i thought mike portnoy was the best.... after watching this video, i realised i was wrong. kudos to Danny!

  • Interesting, it sounds like hes using a live recording. I wonder if theres some official live recording they have stashed away...

  • I wouldnt be suprised if these clips are the ones they were/are going to use on the Live DVD they kept talking about

  • favorite drummer, no if ands or buts.
