How can Gowan even think of singing this song. It's a personal song written from DeYoung to his wife. If he wants to be part of Styx, he should write his own songs and perform them, and play songs that Young and Shaw wrote. Don't try to emulate Deyoung, you make a fool of yourself. I've seen Deyoung in concert a few times, he rocks, and he only plays the songs that HE wrote, not the others.

Yes BBT it shot into the top 50 but then dropped like a stone ! They are now dead in the water commercially and artistically but if theyre happy to knock about every night singing their old songs it`s their right I suppose ! Women love Gowan ? His croaking of Sail Away live is straight out of South Park only not funny. Until they get a keyboard player who can inject some originality into the band rather copy DeYoung they wont shift any records
I have seen Styx with Deyoung and With out him..I have also seen Deyoung in concert solo..and I dont care who Styx gets to sing his songs..Deyoung will always be the heart and soul of this band..
Is Gowan singing to Suzanne Deyoung? This song was written for her by Dennis Deyoung. Does not seem right that he is singing it. It doesn't seem right that Dennis is not in a band that he help create and make famous.
It's DeYoung's fault he's not in the band. The other guys got tired of his ego and his "my way or the highway" attitude. I saw them without him a few years ago. They were great. Looks like they are doing just fine to me.
I think many fans would agree, they like Dennis's way better. I guess Dennis could not help getting sick so I guess it was his fault. He asked for more time to recover but was not given it. Chuck was given the chance to come back when he wants.
I don't disagree that many fans prefer Dennis singing the song. However, Styx wasn't all about Dennis DeYoung, so many fans remain fans -- with or without him. I can't dispute DeYoung's illness, but I'm guessing the rest of the guys just grew tired of him. They probably get along much better with Chuck, so they let him come and go when he wants. I do think it's dumb to have two bass players performing at the same time though.
I would rather Dennis was still with Styx, but things change. The band rolled on when Tommy Shaw left for a while too. I also miss the great solo Gowan I know from the 80's. Styx still plays A Criminal Mind, but ther was so much more.
That comment is a pile. Dennis was a totally generous band leader - letting other people sing songs he wrote, letting Tommy (and later Burtnik) sing half of albums when Dennis had been responsible for Styx' success (certainly before Tommy). And when Tommy quit, Dennis wouldn't replace him - for SEVEN YEARS - because he wanted the real Styx to stay intact. DDY asks for a break, and they drop him right off. They can stonewall it all they want, but even THEY must realize now how much they need him.
