Great story; Alina had nerves of steel to give it another go after all that drama. On a side note, BYKI is so much better and costs so much less than Rosetta Stone! I learned to read, write, and speak two languages within two weeks w/BYKI, one of them being Russian. They also have free unlimited vocabulary list downloads for each language you buy. BYKI is approximately $60 per programme and worth every penny.
alina looks older than yana now cos she gained so much weight. but i gues thats wat hapens to everyone hu retires from a profesional sport cos they have so much spare time to eat
haha actually there's a lot of reasons... like FINALLY trying out some food other than rice buckweat(grechka) veggies or fruit!!! haha cuz that's the only stuff they let the gymnasts eat at viners.. and i very often think "when am i gona be able to get off this freakn diet!!!! AHHH"
btw, i remember pesonally 2001 when she was disqualified. i was 9, watching some championship she was to take part in, but she didn't, she was sitting on the stand. i came to her and asked why she's not performing (is it the right word? dunno) and she said she had hurt her shoulder. that's so sad, she had already known abot the disqualification, but we hadn't, nobody had yet. and i wasn't able to understand it anyway. she's a great person, i'm happy she did not give up and got her gold
God, it's so hard to translate everything word-to-word, so here is my interpretation
it tells Alina's story from the beginning to her golden Olymlpic medal in 2004. she came to Moscow in the middle 90s to meet Irina Viner, she was 12, incredibly talented and ambitious, but (that's what Batyrchina is saying) she had so much weight that she (poor thing!) only had to drink water for 3 days to get slim.
. Alina is saying that it was really hard to train in Moscow cos she felt lonesome, all her family was in Tashkent.
Then it tells about her rise, when she began to win again and again and everybody was sure she would get the gold in Sydney in 2000. Alina is saying she bought some magazine before the Olympics, she was on the cover and it said the gold of Sydney. After that she got presentiment of something bad, she even had a dream in which she was dropping the hoop.
She was broken but accepted it. And soon after another disaster happened. In 2001 she was number 1 in the world championship, Irina Chachina was the second, Ukrainian Anna Bessonova went third. Few days after she found out the golden medals had to be passed to Ukraine cos Alina and Irina were condemned in using of doping.
It was soo unfair cos those guys had found this doping thing months earlier then the world championship was held but they needed Russia to be in competitions.
Alina was crumbled to pieces, disqualified for 2 long and hard years. At 6:41 shes saying she even used to leave home, argue with her mother and rent some random flats. She gave up RG, especially because of the media who really pissed her off, but then she says it was a good thing to have out.
They kind of burnt fire in her, so she decided to demonstrate she was able to take part once again.
And then step by step she came close to Athens. The first apparatus was hoop so she was very afraid. She is saying at 8:00 she was trembling, even wanted to run away. But she coped with that and

And thats what happened in Sydney actually.
