  • this is to you guy who uploaded this video...this is the 2005 outback bowl genius

  • Hawks didn't play all that great that day but the refs were a goddam joke. Remember Spielman (the announcer) during the game -- he was livid!

  • Were there bad calls? Yes. Will anyone remember that in 20 years? No. So i'll take the victory with bad calls over a loss any day and anyone who says they wouldn't is full of shit. Thank you.

  • @somethinrather I would have gladly taken the 2010 Insight Bowl loss if the refs would have made a good call on Moe's catch that ended Missouri's drive. People won't remember this game obviously because it was prior to a National Championship for Florida (which is why I blame the C-USA more as Iowa shouldn't have gotten buttfucked on defense). But in the rare event somebody does decide to watch this in 20 years they'll probably wonder why there are disgruntled Iowa fans flaming the video.

  • @somethinrather Quite frankly, I think most people remember the bad calls......hence why the video of the bad calls has almost 50,000 views. Everybody and their mom knows Iowa was screwed and I'm not even an Iowa fan.

  • typical hawk fans making excuses

  • Wasn't it the 2006 Outback Bowl where this happened? Where the refs seriously gave the game away to Florida, including blatant phony calls for which they had to apologize? It was incredibly pathetic. I think it was obvious throughout the game, but that onside kick recovery at the end really put it over the top, even the neutral announcers were disgusted. Those refs should have been investigated.

  • fuck florida! HAWKEYES ALL DAY BABY!!!!

  • Solomon getting called for a facemask when he is clearly getting his facemask grabbed!?!?!? Thats fucked up

  • I remember that last call wow that was horeshit I wish I could see the audio feedback. The announcer was pissed hes like this game is too fast for these refs

  • Why are penn state fans always commenting on Iowa's videos?

  • @MrMecrob1 Jealous perhaps????

  • @Moocow002 Yep I'm jealous of Penn State. I wish Iowa would have kicked my ass like they did penn states this year

  • @MrMecrob1 If you thought i was a penn st fan saying you were jealous, i didnt mean to say it that way...i was sayin that the penn st fans are jealous of iowa so thats why they are commenting. im an iowa fan go hawks

  • Even though it was bad enough that Penn State dropped to #2 in the AP after beating Ohio State 63-14 (reserves played most of the second half) compared to Nebraska beating Colorado 24-7. PSU definitely should've shared, and plus, I think PSU would've beaten Nebraska. Huskers fans always say that Colorado had a bunch of NFL talent, so they must've been PSU's equals, then I point out 1994 Ohio State, loaded like a baked potato with NFL talent, but still beaten 63-14, and they hate that.

  • I have seen bad calls all my life. Refs are human and that is the truth and they will make bad calls. But to make so many obvious bad calls in one game leaves only one conclusion: Those refs were as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

  • @mongoose704 There were only a handful of games I'd seen like that. Two of them involve PSU vs Michigan, one involves PSU playing OSU, Michigan in the 2005 Alamo Bowl gett hosed (karma perhaps but still not fair), but this certainly was the worst. I think Florida should be forced to forfiet this game, and I'm usually not this pissed about bad calls (for example, the sliding catch ruled a no-catch with PSU vs Iowa last year, I can understand the honest mistake, since refs are humans).

  • @MVillani1985 And I can count a few no calls for holding on your offensive line in our last two games but holding calls can often go missed. Not once did I ever feel that the refs were trying to job us. Honest mistakes.

There is no way those were honest mistakes in the Outback Bowl. Good grief they were glaring, especially when DJ Johnson got flung around by his facemask and then flagged for PI, and the no call on the 12 men on the field...and...ah foerget it I am getting PISSED!

  • @mongoose704 Like I said, against us, even though at times it seems like it was fortune that had a hand in the game's fate, Iowa has always won fair and square (although there was a really bad call in the 2002 game, but that doesn't compare to some of the biggest screw jobs I've seen). But I think Dave Witvoet and crew are known for trying their best to have the calls go Michigan's and Ohio State's way (for example, in the 2009 game, what should've been a safety was called a touchback).

  • @MVillani1985 Agreed wholeheartedly. Other screwjobs. USC and Iowa in the Orange Bowl. Before the game the officials announced they would protect the QBs considering our D-Line knocked out 9 QBs for the year and set a school record for sacks. Banks was mobile, Palmer wasn't. The protection? After 3 quick sacks we were flagged five times in the 2nd quarter for defensive offsides, none legit & killed our pass rush. USC scored 30 points after that mostly through the air. USC not flagged.

  • @mongoose704 Which is exactly why USC couldn't do anything of signifficance in the first half and were vastly outplayed by Iowa. How about that BS false start at the 1? Could've been 17-10 Iowa at halftime. Then in the second half, the Iowa defense is afraid to pass rush and Carson Palmer unsurprisingly picks apart the leashed Iowa defense. Should've been a closer game than it was.

  • @MVillani1985 But the worst screwjob I saw wasn't by a ref, it was by the pollsters in 1994. I still say you shared the 1994 national title, official records be damned. No disrespect for Osborne and that Nebraska team intended though. It wasn't their fault. Even the coaches poll punished Paterno for being a class act and doing the right thing against Indiana by not running the score up. That was inexplicable. I expect the media poll to be ignorant but not the coaches poll.

  • @mongoose704 Agree one hundred percent! Penn State led 28-7 going into the 4th against Indiana, put the backups in, soon it was 35-14, then the third stringers allowed a TD with 1:48 left to make it 35-21, then on a fluke play after burning timeouts to get the ball back from our fourth stringers, guys that never played before allowed a TD and 2 point conversion on the final play of the game to make it 35-29, physically unwinnable for Indiana, but still, PSU drops to #2 in the Coaches Poll.

  • @MVillani1985 Some point out that Nebraska lost the #1 ranking early on due to losing Frazier. It's a good point but I see absolutely no argument that Nebraska should have been ranked ahead of Penn State at the end of the season.

PSU vs Nebraska? Wow. Nebraska's defensive line in which all four starters would win consensus All America honors in their career vs Bucky Greeley, Jeff Hartings, Marco Rivera, Andre Johnson, Keith Conlin...the real key to your offense.

  • @mongoose704 Man, that would have been a sweet matchup, Penn State vs Nebraska. And even if we give them that Nebraska was the better team with Frazier (which I doubt because teams improve, look at 93 vs 94 PSU, same team), their guarantee still is bunk because, we don't know because they never played, and two, the better team doens't always win, but that's what's exciting about football. However, regardless of who was BETTER on PAPER, it would've been an amazing matchup for the ages.

  • @MVillani1985 It might boil down to how the schemes match up. I am very curious to know how your defensive schemes and philosophies match up to the '94 version of Nebraska's triple option with Frazier and Phillips.

  • @mongoose704 Oops I mean the Nebraska I-Option.

  • @mongoose704 I think Penn State would have matched up well most likely, since PSU has always been good against the run. But it would have been a pretty close game, although I think PSU would've won a super close one, the Huskers would have likely held the ball for over 40 minutes due to their time consuming drives and PSU's quick strike offense.

  • @mongoose704 It was actually Clinton Solomon.

  • Hey fuckin retarded Gator fans, The refs were Florida graduates and the Nigger one(pardon my French) was a back up running back for the gators in 1986. So fuck off. Iowa football gone kick some bitch ass this year. All florida's gone do is go fuck emselves cuz witout tebow , Florida is just an outback bowl Special! Gator fans better get used to wakin up at 10 a.m. To watch their team play on New Years Day in the Outback Bowl!

  • I'm usually not one to complain about referees, since the refs are only human and make mistakes, but this is one of those games that just was as crooked as can be. Other games I thought were laden with bad calls were the Penn State vs Michigan games in 2002 and 2005, although I've seen a couple others with seriously bad calls in them. However, this game takes the cake. I had never seen worse officiating in all my life than this game.

  • @MVillani1985 Exactly. The television about got tossed I was so livid. I have the gane recorded and even Mike Tomczak, who has absolutely zero love for Iowa having competed against us, was going ballistic about the bad calls.

  • @mongoose704 I think conference USA refs should be banned from officiating a game outside of their own conference. They make Big East refs (who tired hard to make the Syracuse vs PSU game as close as possible) seem fair and impartial by comparison.

  • @MVillani1985 Yeah I remember you getting jobbed out against Michigan. Let me guess: Dave Witvoet. He jobbed us out in '01 and '05 vs Michigan.

  • Comment removed

  • Its games like these that make me mad that you can't challenge plays in college football but in this case it really didnt matter you only get two challenges and there were obviously more than two poor calls.

  • I was there and i actually know one of the refs who called that game. They really had money on it is what he told me. 2 refs were retiring after that game he said. Look it up 2 refs never called another game. I wonder who placed there bet for them

  • In the 2004 outback bowl Iowa beat Florida

  • that was the 2006 outback bowl

  • STILL STINGS!!!!!

  • dude your totally an idiot. The very next day after that game the officials for that game gave an apology to the Big Ten and to Iowa for the penalties that weren't called and then apologizing for the penalties that were called against Iowa including that offsides call. Those officials were even fined by the NCAA for the calls in that game

  • @HawkeyeNation1

That doesnt mean shit after the fact. They still cost us the game.

  • @tyronewilliams25 yeah man but its just sucks that there was that many shit calls in that game, but who cares now. its all bout the hawks in 2010

  • @HawkeyeNation1 Conference USA gave us a full apology on behalf of their officials as well.

  • @HawkeyeNation1 sorry isn't enough when you play against a good team at a nice bowl and have it cheated away like that

  • K this was the 2006 outback bowl tho...the one we got screwed over in and lost.....look up outback bowl 2006 iowa vs florida and there is an 8 min vid which shows all the bad calls...even the announcers were dumbfounded and one of them was downright pissed at how ridiculous the calls were....When we played florida in 04 we kicked their ass, big time beat down...

  • @AshtonCampbell0509 if your a gator fan you should just get the hell off of an iowa video. iowa owns you and iowa owned you in this game.

  • the refs sucked the refs vs northwestern sucked the refs vs texas sucked...............and the most they sucked in the outback bowl against florida...........hey gator kid go back to your hick town in florida and go hide in your swamp........cause we dont want to here your bs about how tim teblow is great....just because you play teams that never stepped on a FBS teams field to up his qb ratin...nfl is gonna be heck for him and you know that

  • Absolute worst refs in the history of football as a sport. They should of been made to publically apologize to the University of Iowa and the Football team.

  • I think the NCAA should seriously review their ref's work status, or retrain the referees. This is too much, there seems to be favoritism amongst ref's calling penalties against underdogs or siding with larger teams. The SEC is especially bad about this, two good recent examples .... Georgia vs. LSU, and Arkansas vs. Flordia.

  • This was a bullshit call. NCAA reviewed the play a day later and said that the player wasn't off sides. The ref was a bitch and hated iowa as you can see.

  • Why does this video say 2004? This game was in 2006. F*** C-USA refs.

  • I was there. It has been almost four years and the pain of this game has not subsided. Man, that was the mother of all bad calls.

  • gatormarc99... you are the only fucking person in the nation, including the university of florida, who doesnt see the offsides. how about you look at this video one more time and see where his body is when the ball is bing kicked. ill give you a clue.. its behind the big white line

  • i loved it when they called the offsides on an onside because 1) i have never seen that called in my life, and 2) it wasnt even offsides. i was seriously tearing up after that call. even the commentators started yelling because they couldnt believe it hahaa

  • they were C-USA refs not used to the BCS level of play they were investigated and now refs have to be approved to officiate bowl games outside their conf

  • Notice the ref waited until the ball was downed by IOWA then he threw the flag. Not very well shown on this vid but there are others that support the ref waiting to toss the flag.

  • This game still hurts.

  • For those with this game on tape/dvr - watch the ref BEFORE the onside kick. He actually has his hand on the flag before the kick is made. No joke. Go find it and watch it. There was even an article about these refs months later and how 2 of them bought houses months after this game.

  • That ref should be shot. A couple mistakes is ok, every ref makes mistakes. This idiot made a mistake on nearly EVERY play. It is really hard to belive all the refs didn't "see" Gallery getting held. They were paid by the gators because the gators were scared of the big bad hawkeyes.

  • Umm I willing to bet Gallery wasn't holding in the 2006 Outback bowl because he was playing for Oakland by then.

  • Those refs are so blind they couldn't even see a bomb going off in a nitroglycerin plant.

  • Proves again Iowa is better than Florida...down by 24 to start the 4th quarter... we come back... and the refs have to make a bad call for Florida to win... not to mention when we owned them a few years back 37-17 in the outback bowl.

  • you know, i am completely over the game, but that was a horribly officiated game, possibly the worst ever. these are all good examples of only SOME of the poor calls that game. i am glad we went down swinging at least, knowing that the ONLY reason we lost is because of those damned refs. oh well we won our bowl this year!!!!

    ON IOWA!!!! GO HAWKS!!!!!!!

  • THOSE REFS SUCKED

  • Worst officiated game of that year (which says a lot since OU vs Oregon game at the begining of the year was bad, along with the Alamo bowl between UM and Nebraska which was right before this game). I remember bad spots both ways during the game, but the officiating was very lopsided. I hate that the roughing the kicker is on this because I felt that was close enough to call. it was a 5 yard penelaty rather then 15 yards. It just happened to be 4th and less then 5.

  • This crew deserved to be fired and banned from ever officiating D1 football. C_USA refs are the worst.

  • this was very frustrating. I hate florida and i hate C_USA Refs

  • what do the refs call themsevles blind eyed zebras

  • lol

  • It's payback time! we're coming back from Tampa with a victory this time.

  • I felt the set up that year. whats with no team names in the endzones either. We sell out their bowl game and they cant get our names in the endzones. I e mailed the bowl game to ask them if the names would be in the end zones. No answer. Fuck em. cant risk the set up.

  • 2006 outback bowl

  • I agree with nacyaz, brings up a lot of anger, lets get em this year, GO HAWKS!

  • Because all the bad calls against Florida weren't blatantly misguided enough. All two of them.

  • With all due respect to the Gators cause I would be surprissed if the sooners beat the Gators and you would def beat the Hawks. However that game was a complete joke. Scothawk didn't even show the hinkle catch that got taken away. I also cannot believe they called Greenway offsides on the onside kick. You simply cannot take away a teams chances like that it horrible.

O and you can thank us for knocking off a overrated Penn St team so that you can go to the BCS championship

  • ur a fuckin retard. u know iowa got screwed in this game. so shut ur mouth gatormarc. tewbow is a pussy by the way.

  • wow ur a fucking idiot u know tht if u think iowa cheated then obviously ur a gator fan and it is prtty obvious tht iowa got screwed and i hope oklahoma kills florida

  • really, gatormarc? please enlighten us. point out to me the calls you're talking about. because the helmet to helmet call on iwebema, the facemask penalty on solomon, the roughing the punter flag, the 12th man penalty, and of course, the infamous off-sides penalty looked pretty blatant to anyone and everyone in america who lives outside of gainseville. but maybe youre right. show me and everyone how iowa didn't get cheated by the wonderful Conference USA officiating crew.

  • Looks like I'm going to have to go back and try to find an old copy of the game.

I do recall Iowa getting away with a lot of holding and getting some very favorable spots to keep a few drives alive.

But I don't expect you guys to remember any of those, even with the tapes rolling in front of you.

  • excellent. i look forward to you bringing those calls to my attention, marc.

im sure youre right; there are probably several calls which went iowa's way that helped us out. in this video you see questionable calls over the course of the game which go florida's way. that happens. the main problem is that with all the momentum in the world swinging the hawkeyes' way the officials denied them a chance to drive the field and tie or win the game with over a minute to go. thats bullshit.

  • The problem with the video above is even some of the examples in this video are weak. The helmet to helmet on Leak... the offsides on the onside kick.

Do you really think those were both incorrect calls?

Do you really think momentum was swinging Iowa's way? Well, I guess if the holding and the offsides an the helmet to helmet all weren't called, that may have happened.

  • MARC, are you even going to try to tell me that iowa didnt have momentum?? iowa had scored 17 unanswered points and recovered an onside kick. if that doesn't give them momentum that i really couldnt tell you what does.

now, moving onto the calls: i already admitted to you that im sure there were calls throughout the game that helped iowa. but youre either blind or just fucking retarded marc if you try to tell me that the helmet to helmet and offsides calls were right

  • I think he's trying to tell you that even though those calls were wrong, they wouldn't have affected the game, since Florida had the momentum. Right. An offsides call on an onside kick that Iowa got, and could have used to win, didn't affect the game.

  • we did recover the onside kick. but thanks to the nig ref he took that away. see thats why i hate Florida fans. they c only what they want to see. fuckin tard asses. fuck u and Florida. tim tebow is a cry baby. and a fake person. yea maybe iowa did get away with some small penalties but in the end iowa got screwed. turn the story around and florida would have lost on a bullshit call then what would u say?

  • my god marc i dont even know what else to say other than youre just a fucking moron

  • gatormarc99, ur an idiot shut ur fucking mouth u fucking bitch.

tim tebow is overrated. there i said it OVERRATED

    the heisman is OVERRATED

18 months from now ill be laughing when tim tebow will be considered a bust.

  • More classy posts. Iowa is just oozing with it now. Yes. Poor Tebow, 2 national titles and a Heisman trophy, but he's overrated. LOL.

  • well you are to dumb to admit when you are wrong... we did get ripped off with the offsides call... your head is way to far up a gators ass to see ti though

  • uh... bud... just cause he has a heisman trophy doesnt mean he isnt overated look at reggie bush... draft bust... overated... and the 2 national champs he played sub-par... look up his stats for those games.

  • So let me get this straight. Because another player didn't succeed in the NFL, that means that Tebow is overrated in college?

    LOL. That's just too much.

  • NO you said this "2 national titles and a Heisman trophy, but hes overrated", in response to "the heisman is overrated", so I would incline that you were saying that people who win the heisman trophy cannot be overrated. I showed you an example (reggie bush) of someone who won the heisman trophy and turned out to be overrated. There now you have it straight. Once again, if you use common sense its not hard to figure things out.

  • someone get gatormarc99 a common sense button, he needs one. I suppose you can "defend" the "facemask" call on clinton solomon. And I suppose you were watching the game on mute because the announcers, who probably have more NCAA experience then you do, were absolutely pissed off at the end. did you hear the end on the offsides call? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! the announcer said. CONF-USA issued an apology a week later. put that up your gator ass and smoke it.

  • Woah woah...I'm not going to bash you, but I will say, check the Des Moines register AND replays of that onside kick play, and you will MOST definitely see that Iowa was NOT offsides. The entire game was filled with those refs deciding that Florida would win the game...and I am truly dumbfounded to see that you don't see that.

  • jt,

If you have a link to a video that shows that they weren't offsides, please post it. I haven't seen that video yet and it doesn't seem that the guy who made this video has either or he would have included it.

  • Uh... why wouldn't you just look up 2004 Outback Bowl you moron. And it doesnt have to "show" they were offsides, you can tell just by looking at them unless you've never seen an onside kick performed in your life.

  • hey dumb fuck, if you watch his body was behind the line, even if you argue the angle is bad and you can't see it all. The foot was still behind the line and thats all that matters

  • ahaha alright.. if these refs were so fair then why did Confrence USA PUBLICLY APOLOGIZE to the U of I and this group of C USA officials were suspended from officiating a bowl game the next season.. THESE REFS WERE FUCKED douche bag, espn also took this game 4 years ago and idk how they did but they used 3 camera views so they could estimate where greenway as on the onside.. NOT OFFSIDES.. so don't think for a second you earned this win

  • @gatormarc99 thts gotta be one of the most ignorant things i have ever heard

  • this must be tim tebow talking. doesnt know shit about anything. what was the score at the start of the 4th quarter? like 31 to 7. with one minute to go it was 24 to 31 how is that not a sign of momentum in iowas favor? the helmet to helmet was a bull shit call. the offside was a bull shit call. the 12th man was a bull shit no call..

  • Comment removed

  • Someone forgot to use the audio preview

  • damn refs! this should of been iowas win.

  • wow this brings up alot of anger again...

  • "Please don't hurt a quarterback"

    Brilliant.

  • I've never seen bigger cojones!

    Love it!

  • u like some cojones dont u :)
