This is an excellent video demonstrating the ability to actually play an instrument well. Good technique, good composition, a little technical know-how, and some obvious musical talent come together here with fantastic results.
I'm so tired of seeing YouTube "demos" with some dude pressing one key and throwing a switch or two. Its fun to see an instrument being well played.
@youenjoy00myself i guess so ;) a simple kick isnt that hard to make. just make a picthed bass sound with the right envelope.. try taking a synth and making a short envelope for the pitch so it starts high and quickly pitches down ;) and a short attack and release for the volume.
1 extra tip, when your set up and recording, use another cable on the line in, leave the other end unplugged, now you can record the drum hits. just tweak til you get the sound you want
in order to record this, i had to use a mixer with MIC LINE IN to send a boosted signal to my pc, the battery power might be too low to send signal, even with w7 +30 dB. if you line in to a guitar PA just MIC IN to PC
If you translate the posters Japanese above it says that he made this song all just with a Korg Monotron but he did record it in a DAW and than mixed the different tracks he made. Nice work btw.
Brilliant. I have one of these little suckers and they are so much fun! Another thing you can do is plug a regular keyboard into it and use it as an outboard signal processor.
@ClubTrance88 the cable goes to your computer and you need to record every set individually then you mix all the tracks with a audio edit program. I use cool edit pro as my multi-track session recorder
@ClubTrance88 Probably used the line out of the Monotron and plugged it into a recording system (maybe an audio interface and computer, or something to that affect).
@jackyd2001 I am not the creator but I do have one of these devices and the only way he could've done this would've been either multi-tracking or looping and playing over the loop. The Monotron does not have any internal recording mechanism. xD
This is a Haken Continuum alike but a lot more affordable and less flexible lol. But because the continuum is incredibly expensive i'll probably buy vthis lol.
Of course, Korg's got the greatest filters in the world. If you, however, don't want to carry the Monotron around, there are some alternatives, such as iPhone apps. I especially like Noise Boxx, which offers almost the same options as the Monotron!
@AgentOfKaoss I'm just a noob. This is my first synth ever!~ Any suggestions? Other than toying around making all kind of bad noises lol and learning the good ones

Wow, I'm really delighted someone is composing whole tracks on monotron. The overdubbing must be tedious! Are you running it through any effects at all? I swear I hear some reverb in spots, which the monotron can't do.

This kind of people are the ones that make people buy instruments. If this guy works for korg, it is fine, but if not, he should be paid for this performance. Really amazing.
what type of output cable do u have there? i have a korg and would like to connect to my midi machine or possibly my PC to record! Please tell me what cable that is
Simply amazing, amazingly simple. We are the Korg. We do whatever the hell we damn well please. And it all sounds AMAZING when used properly. This is by far the best example I have heard. It is a testamen to what people with genuine inspiration and knowledge can do with something as simple as an oacilator, a filter and the standard synth sound. Perfectoin ensues.
great idea well executed, but surely you didn't get that kick from the monotron?! i mean, i hope you did as i'm looking to buy one of these! you should have sold this to korg.
Um ok, but does plugging a keyboard in meen that it replaces the ribbon keyboard on the monotron or does it just meen that you can use the monotron to play with the sounds already on your keyboard? And what are the necessary cables that i will need to do this?
This looks pretty awesome! only one question: Can you connect it to a keyboard and use the keys off the keyboard instead of just the ribbon keyboard on the synth? because i cant imagine u can play much on such a small ribbon..... hit back! x
@MusicBySav I think he meant midi control over it...that's something you can't do without heavy mods, @klikom8 you need to play the ribbon or mod it for Pitch input via CV (CV was around long before midi as the standard way of controlling synths).
didnt see how you made the beat.
