  • Interesting that Europe has a mahjong competition. In chinese societies around the world, mahjong is not treated as a competition, but as gaming (like in casinos) where bets are placed among friends or family members to make it more exciting, or it can also be played without placing bets on it (but the excitement is half gone). But mostly it is a game to socialise amidst laughter and petty gossips with friends/family, together with tea and titbits. :-)

  • Do they play this regularly in Germany? Because maybe I'd get to play with my Deutschlehrer... Or is it just a place where the tournament is hosted?

  • Meine Güte. They are all n00bs. Who arranges their discard tiles like that? The whole point is to prevent your opponents from remembering what you discarded. And the way they arrange their "walls" is also very n00bish.

<played mahjong since I was... 6? haha. Hamburg is cool though.

  • @ppanforreals Sorry, but obviously you have no idea about Chinese Official Tournament Rules that apply here. The whole point is to enable your opponents to draw conclusions from your discards. Thus you have to be very be careful about your discards. And the way the wall is built here is exactly the way the rule requires.

  • An so etwas möchte ich auch mal gerne teilnehmen *-*

  • I wish we had these tounaments in america I have no one to play with IRL

  • @lyokogrl

Look for "Mahjong Contacts" on the web, there is a database with playing groups worldwide where you can search for and find players of the classical Chinese board game of Mahjong.

  • @lyokogrl same here, I wish we had this in North America.

  • Those wrist corsages are really annoying. The should be banned.

  • @DCFunBud I'm sure if they were annoying to any of the other players at the table, someone would have mentioned it. No need to make a mountain out of a molehill :o).

  • mahjong is fun! why are they being so boring...lol

  • @monkeysmack friends ditch friends when they are suppose to hang out.

  • wtf so slow?

  • LOL I love how they play so seriously its cool xP

  • I wish we had a mahjong tournament around here!

  • as expected from anything German... they are taking this way too seriously, LOL

  • Well, at this important tournament we had guests from Denmark, Switzerland, Russia, Italy, France... When we Germans are in private, we play more easy - we even do laugh sometimes! :)

  • NOw do they end, if no one has mahjong with all the tiles from the wall gone or is there a certain number of tiles you leave and end it?

  • According to the CO/MCR rules that apply here, tiles are taken from the wall until no tile is left. There is no "dead wall" or "kangbox" in this case. If the wall is empty and no one said Mahjong, then the game ends in a draw.

  • @multiplabipower according to hong kong, where it originates, there are suppose to leave 7.5 pair of tiles or 15 tiles at the end. where do they get the rules from...!

  • warum the alter mann lernen das spiel?
