Who worte this stupid story? Why were Starsha and Alex so stupid? Why was Desslok so idioitc? And why wouldn't Starsha setup some auto-destruct and escape with Alex? This story killed the entire Quest for Iscandar saga! No wonder it was such a flop, and never released to the USA directly! I am SO GLAD I never saw this back in 1982, and I am starting to now regret that I ever saw it at all!
@Halpin2006 While I'll concede that Dessler was an idiot, you obviously didn't pay attention to Starsha and Mamoru's characterizations in the original season
Though also judging by the way you use the dub names, it probably has to do with how it was translated. I'd suggest checking out the English subs of the first season to get a grasp on why she was determined to stay
Yes they are, Honcho. As for the war, it might be wrong in SOME ways but we should ALWAYS support our troops. THEY are doing as any GOOD soldior should do, and thats take orders. More and More are joining the American military volentarily. And we better fight them over THERE before they come over HERE. Yes, I know our presidents(Lets remember we're talking about MANY administrations, not just the current & previous!!) have NOT protected US boarders for 0ver 30yrs & that idiologic cels R here.
Isandar is Starsha's home, therefore thousands must die(aliens, yet!) to defend it and her, and because of her selfish, stuborn, self-centeredness, her husband must suffer for it and her child must grow up with out a mother......Sounds like my Ex'.
Well... NOW she'll go to Earth! Am I the only one to notice that if she'd just left Iscandar in the first place, the whole mess would have been avoided?
But then there wouldn't be a story. Oh well. She's a robo-babe, so the Kodai brothers will do anything she asks, lol.
Agree. She's a queen, not a local polititian. She meant well, though. Starsha may be the typical picture of how some old-time women protected her loved ones. As sincere as she was, she lacks bigger picture.
EXCACTLY! The planet had to warp across the cosmos, have the last vestiges of the Gamilus Empire toss their lives away in the most meaningless battle ever for what? some high octane space fuel??
@wirehoncho... ironic isn't it? In that the U.S. (the country in which I live)... is fighting an illegal, extremely long-drawn-out, stalemate of a bloodmatch... for... what? Fuel. Oil.
I like this feature, instead of spreading the drama out over 20-30 episodes they cram all the action and intrigue into one film and managed to pull it off--with the exception of not having much backgroung about the Dark Nebula Empire's motivations.
Seems strange that Iskandar has a planetary self-destruct, but no other defensive systems--even automated ones; perhaps being so close to Gamilus made those unecessary (or perhaps they didn't allow it).
"New Journey" was a special movie made for TV broadcasting. They had a condensed version(2hour) of "Comet Empire." I'm not sure if they did that to "Bolar Wars." Those condensed versions if sold sure would have saved fans' money.
Dark Nebula Empire was a rising super power who needed any energy source she could get her hands on for her expansion. (Actually they needed HEALTH as living creatures!) It's neat to see all those problems presented in anime actually reflect our own reality...
IIRC, the Comet Empire movie was made as a way to say good-bye to the Yamato and its crew. But amazingly enough, it was this movie that renewed interest in Yamato (or at least, much fan disappointment at the ending), so then the Comet Empire series was made.
Yes, and then the producers realized Yamato actually could have a lot more great series. I think they kinda regretted they killed off everyone(almost) in "Farewell to Yamato," although nothing else was more impressive than that; it was too soon to kill so many main characters including Susumu and Yuki. Yet it must have been the feeling of real war which the producers remembered...
Instead I wish they would have turned this into a TV series, too. Perhaps 3 or 4 episodes for pursuing the warping Iscandar, then the Black Nebula Empire - the tale would have deserved it!
Iscandar: Now you know why Dessler was in Season 1 so hesitant about conquering it...
They meant well until they were all dead. But I agree about the level of technology. After all, even the Gamilusians were surprised about the wave-motion gun, and the Dessler Cannon is no real match.
amazing the contridiction from the last time desslcok told wildstar to fire the wave motion gun and this time.....last time desslcok was taunting him to fire the gun (thereby destroying the space mines and the yamato) as an enemy of the yamato and earth.....here he is asking wildstar to kill him to save themselves and starsha....amazing turn around in his character
Yeah... he has everything. Handsome feature, royal blood, composed manner, outstanding men under him, lofty ambission, a heavy, sad past(let's just forget here he once was an evil tyrant) and the deepest pure love for one unattainable woman in his life... Am I the only one who is reminded of "Great Gatsby" in Desslar? Something permanent about manhood is here, man!
The manner Desslar determined to save Starsha, the heart-wrenching music, Starsha's sobbing, Susumu's dilemma which seems eternal for a moment, Desslar's confession of love facing his death... all are for ever etched in my heart.

Why Goruba tryed to destroy Iscandar? They should just kill Stasha and Mamoru.
And destroy Gamiras' ships and Yamato. If they do, They can mine Iscandarium deliberately.

Starsha goes the way of Teresa: Lying at and deceiving everyone who loves her. Well, she is sort of a local politician after all.
