I think mere logics would cause you to think that the person who shot might be hiding, and the cameraman (obviously) didn't see the girl getting shot first after the shot being fired. Fact of the matter is that very few Iranians have weapons, so the fire is most likely from some organization like basij.

If you have lived in Iran and just talk to a large portion of the people (not including zealous fundamentalist muslims) you will get the impression that most people have a negative image of basij. Among the young most people have a negative feeling towards the whoe political system. Even if it was a great system (which it isn't) it should at least open up for debate so the young can have their say.

@OnkelMickwald If you would look at history more attentively there is no such thing as a non violent revoltion! And I have to disagree with you on your statement, look at both the english revolution of 1640, the American Revolution turned War of Independancy 1774 the French Revolution of 1789 and many more in 1849 - the revolution year, they all shaped the modern world and set up the fundament of our society.
There is no such thing as a peace without violence either. But I highly doubt over-belief in revolutions, because the human mind tend to focus on brief and violent occasions in history, rather than the long, drawn-out procedures, which I think have shapen our society more. Of the revolutions you mentioned, I wouldn't call the first French Revolution as "successful" from my own moral beliefs, even though I do admit it had an enormous inpact on Western societies ultimately.
As I have understood it, the american revolution was rather a repelling of a "foreign" force trying to govern a colony with a culture that was distancing itself from the "motherland" rather than a revolution "within" the country. I do know that royalists from whithin the states fought in the war too, but the "epicentrum" of royalism was in London, not within the States.
The major problems I see in revolutions are firstly: Do the beliefs held by the revolutionaries represent the beliefs of the entire population? If not, what is to be done with the "non-believers"?
secondly: Revolutions mean a great change in social and political structures, and are often performed by people from outside of the goverment, leaving the process of creating a new goverment very vulnerable to collapse and dictatorship.
Do not misunderstand me, I believe in democracy,and I'd rather see Iran as a democracy than what it is now. It's just that I can't stop thinking about all those people who do not live in the big cities who presumably support Ahmadinejad, and believe he's a strong leader with strong morals and a sense of decency. What part will they play in all this?

I find it almost hard to believe that people could believe propaganda so readily as to dismiss simple, plain truth shining in front of them.
The 'fake Neda' story was propagated by the Iranian government (openly so) after her death. An ambassador stating clearly that the bullet found in her was not of Iranian make got the wound location wrong (he said head, it was chest).
At least show a little bit of rationale and skepticism please. If only so everyone else does not take you for idiots.

@Walithequick I don't know about foreign agents in Iran, there are probably foreign agents in every country. Why the camera man didn't get the person who shot the girl? I think mere logics would cause you to think that the person who shot might be hiding, and the cameraman (obviously) didn't see the girl getting shot first after the shot being fired. Fact of the matter is that very few Iranians have weapons, so the fire is most likely from some organization like basij.

If you have lived in Iran and just talk to a large portion of the people (not including zealous fundamentalist muslims) you will get the impression that most people have a negative image of basij. Among the young most people have a negative feeling towards the whoe political system. Even if it was a great system (which it isn't) it should at least open up for debate so the young can have their say.

One of my fellow students spent two months in prison just because he had written a statement arguing against the politization of scientific inquiry in Universities after the reforms in early 2000. Getting prisoned for something like that is just crazy. The funny thing is that his parents where very religious, and supported the revolution. Last time I met his father he told me he no longer believed in Islam, I could only smile!

And I have to disagree with you on your statement, look at both the english revolution of 1640, the American Revolution turned War of Independancy 1774 the French Revolution of 1789 and many more in 1849 - the revolution year, they all shaped the modern world and set up the fundament of our society.

There is no such thing as a peace without violence either. But I highly doubt over-belief in revolutions, because the human mind tend to focus on brief and violent occasions in history, rather than the long, drawn-out procedures, which I think have shapen our society more. Of the revolutions you mentioned, I wouldn't call the first French Revolution as "successful" from my own moral beliefs, even though I do admit it had an enormous inpact on Western societies ultimately.

As I have understood it, the american revolution was rather a repelling of a "foreign" force trying to govern a colony with a culture that was distancing itself from the "motherland" rather than a revolution "within" the country. I do know that royalists from whithin the states fought in the war too, but the "epicentrum" of royalism was in London, not within the States.

The major problems I see in revolutions are firstly: Do the beliefs held by the revolutionaries represent the beliefs of the entire population? If not, what is to be done with the "non-believers"?
secondly: Revolutions mean a great change in social and political structures, and are often performed by people from outside of the goverment, leaving the process of creating a new goverment very vulnerable to collapse and dictatorship.

It's just that I can't stop thinking about all those people who do not live in the big cities who presumably support Ahmadinejad, and believe he's a strong leader with strong morals and a sense of decency. How can you fake blood coming out of your nose? Even if you think the wound shouldn't have done that -- which you can't know, since you haven't seen the wound -- a person doesn't just start leaking red stuff from their face and you can't fake that on camera.
